  • While preparing a floristic study of Korean hepatics, we discovered the six unrecorded species of Lejeuneaceae from Mt. Seolak, Mt. Gaya, Geojedo, Wando and Gageodo. Archilejeunea kiushiana, Drepanolejeunea angustifolia, Lejeunea aquatica, Lejeunea otiana, Leucolejeunea japonica, and Spruceanthus semirepandus, are reported here. A. kiushiana was characterized by unlobed underleaves, homogeneous oil-bodies, and four to six perianth-keels. D. angustifolia is similar to D. ternatensis, but it differs in the dorsal margin of the leaf-lobe, which is entire or denticulate, spines never present, and leaf cells smooth or with minute dorsal bulging. L. aquatica is similar to L. japonica in that it has a wider and similar shape (wider than long) of its underleaves and has homogeneous oil-bodies. The former, however, has minute leaf-lobules (5-15 cells), 1/10 to 1/5 the length of the leaf-lobe, versus leaf-lobules 1/4 to 1/3 the length of the leaf-lobe. L. otiana is similar to L. kodamae in that it has a large and acute first tooth of the leaf-lobule but differs in having plain leaf-lobules obliquely quadrate and an indistinct second tooth. Drepanolejeunea (Spruce) Schiffn. is widely distributed in tropical and subtropical regions (Mizutani, 1961). L. japonica is characterized by entire underleaves; one large, coarsely segmented oil-body per leaf cell; and a large second tooth of the leaf lobule, two to six cells long, and two to three cells wide at the base. S. semirepandus is widely distributed in tropical and subtropical regions in Asia. This species is characterized by small homogeneous and numerous oil-bodies, up to 10 smooth perianthkeels, and leaf-lobe acute at the apex.

  • From January 1997 to May, the red marbled rockfish, Sebastiscus tertius (Barsukov et Chen) was reared in the laboratory, and observed the morphological characteristies of egg and development of larvae and juveniles. The egg is spherical in shape colorless and transparent, measuring 0.72~0.80mm in diameter (mean 0.75mm, n=50). The naturally bearing larvae were 3.79~3.97mm in total length with 7~8+15~16=22~24 myomeres, and mouth and anus were open. Melanophores were present on the yolk of the larva and ventral margins of the tail. The 1~2 days after bearing larvae measured 3.90~4.13mm in total length, and transformed to postlarval stage, and yolk sac were completely resorbed. On the lower jaw melanophores were present. Total length of the larvae was 4.23~4.60mm in total length (11 days after bearing), number of elongated pectoral fin rays was 9~10, and melanophores distributed on the top of head, around the intestine tube, ventral margins of the tail and on the pectoral fin. In 21 days after bearing, the larva were 5.83~7.10mm in total length, and the caudal notochord flex $45^{\circ}$. Individuals of 9.80~12.36mm in total length (33 days after bearing) are regarded to have reached to the juvenile stage with all the fins were developed.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the changes in soil chemical properties after thinning for a Quercus acuta stand in Wan-do Arboretum, Jeollanam-do. The stem density after thinning was determined referring to that of Quercus acutissima with 10 cm diameter at breast height and soil samples were collected 7 years after thinning. There was no considerable difference in soil pH values after thinning. However, the concentrations of soil organic matter, total nitrogen and available phosphorus significantly increased after thinning. In addition, thinning significantly increased cation exchange capacity (C.E.C) and the concentrations of exchangeable cations ($K^+$, $Na^+$, $Ca^{2+}$, and $Mg^{2+}$). From this study, it was revealed that the nutrient concentrations of this study site were generally lower than those of other forest soils. Therefore, it is need to improve the warm temperate forests through thinning and to develop forest treatment for regeneration.

  • The purpose of this paper is to suggest the efficiency measurement way of Korean seaport by using Average Index Transformation model of fuzzy DEA(Data Envelopment Analysis). Two inputs[cargo handling capacity, and berthing capacity], and outputs[cargo handling amount, and the number of ship calls] are used in 1995 and 2004 for 26 Korean seaports. Empirical main results are as follows: First, Tongyung, Gohyun, Okpo, and Sogcho Ports are efficient, and Yeasu Port shows the high efficiency level over 95% under input oriented CCR model. Gohyun and Sogcho Ports showed the most efficient score under average index transformation model. Okpo and Yeasu Ports increased their efficiency scores as the lamda(λ) values are up. The empirical results of fuzzy DEA average index transformation model for Wando, Yeasu, and Seoguipo ports showed that if the lamda values are higher, the efficiency scores are also higher. The main policy implication based on the findings of this study is that the management manager of Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs in Korea should introduce the fuzzy DEA average index transformation model for deciding the size of inputs including the port investment amount and evaluating the port efficiency.

  • Wongyo Lee KwangSa (1705~1777) is a scholar and artist who represented an era in the period of change and revival of Korean culture and art in the 18th century. In 1755 (31st Yeongjo), he was transferred to Sinjido due to the Naju Byeokseo Incident, and died in exile for a total of 23 years. He tried to correct the problems of the flow of calligraphy in common writing and the flow of calligraphy in the Joseon Dynasty, and wrote 『Wonkyo Seogyeol』. By realizing an original artistic state that is evaluated as having completed the 'Dongguk Jinche', which is a unique and subjective and self-conscious calligraphic flow of the Korean people who wants to reestablish the essence of calligraphy, it has had an absolute influence on the Honam area. Wonkyo's calligraphy aesthetics are developed into the beauty of ChanggyeongBalsog based on Shimjin of Yangminghak, Yanggangmi of Power of controlling all the stands of brush hair, and Vitality of Push out the brush with all your might. He recognized free sculpting and energetic, muscular strokes as the key to calligraphy, and suggested honing the old tombstones written in JeonYe. Vibrant stroke means that Cheongi naturally permeates in the midst of Samgwa and Gilgok, and the brush is operated with Push out the brush with all your might of Power of controlling all the stands of brush hair. These calligraphy aesthetics radiated sinchae with geungol and singi, and were expressed in Wongyo font, full of vitality as a living creature, pursuing the unique pilgrimage and pilgrimage unique to our nation, revealing the true nature of nature.

  • Harmful dinoflagellate, Cochlodinium polykrikoides, has always occurred in southern coastal waters every year during summer, but it did not occur in 2009. A comparative study on outbreak in 2007/2008 and non-outbreak of C. polykrikoides in 2009 was performed based on environmental parameters and phytoplankton appearances. Samples were obtained at 13 stations from Yeosu to Wando waters in 2007-2009. The heavy rainfall was associated with the decrease of surface water temperature below $20^{\circ}C$ in July, the decrease of salinity below 31psu in August and increase of pH to 8.4 in Augus, 2009. concentration of DIN in 2009 was approximately too times as high as those of 2007 and 2008, and the ratioes of N:P and Si:N in 2009 showed Redfield ratio to be above the value of 16. This indicates that Redfield ratioes were significantly different between 2007/2008 and 2009. Dominant species during the field survey were shown to be Chaetoceros spp., Skeletonema costatum and Thalassiosir spp. in diatoms and to be Ceratium spp. in dinoflagellate. In partiuclar, Gonyaulax polygramma occurred in August, 2009 instead of C. polykrikoides. Consequently, the massive rainfall and shortage of sunshine contributed to considerable variation in environmental parameters which were associated with delay in the timing of rapid growth phase of C. polykrikoides.

  • Several yeast colonies were isolated from wild flowers collected from East, West and South coast areas of Korea by plating of flower suspensions on the YPD plates containing antibiotics, streptomycin and ampicillin. Polymerase chain reactions (PCR) were performed for the amplification of D1/D2 region of 26S rDNA for those colonies. PCR-amplified nucleotide sequences were compared using BLAST for their identification. As results, 27 yeast strains belonged to 15 species were isolated from wild flowers collected at Donghae, where is located in eastern coast of Korea. Also, 34 strains belonged to 17 species were isolated from wild flowers of Daecheon, where is located in western coast of Korea. In addition, 22 strains belonged to 13 species were isolated from wild flowers collected at Wando, where is located in southern coast of Korea. Among those 45 species isolated from 3 different collection sites, only 4 species including Cryptococcus laurentii, Metschnikowia koreensis, Pseudozyma rugulosa, and Rhodotorula mucilaginosa were found from all 3 different collection sites. And 5 species including Cryptococcus aureus, Cryptococcus flavus, Hanseniaspora uvarum, Pichia guilliermondii, and Rhodosporidium fluviale were overlapped from the at least 2 different collection sites. Other 23 species were found only in a specific collection sites implying that each area has distinctive yeast flora.
