It was resulted from increase of weight of single cocoon. "Manta"2.5ppm produced 22.2kg of cocoon. It is equal to 9% increase in index, as compared to that of control.
Recently, polypropylene fiber reinforced mortar and concrete as civil and architectural
materials have been used in major countries in the world.
Polypropylene fiber reinforced concrete has many advantages in terms of economical
aspect, chemical stability and durability. It has been reported that polypropylene fiber
can control restrained tensile stresses and cracks and increase toughness, resistance to
impact, corrosion, fatigue and durability.
The purpose of the present study is, therefore, to investigate the strength as well as
many mechanical characteristics including toughness and shrinkage control properties. A
specially devjsed shrinkage test has been applied to measure the crack control
characteristics of polypropylene fiber reinforced concrete. The present study indicates
that the polypropylene fiber reinforced concrete curbs greatly the crack occurrence due
to shrinkage and enhances toughness resistance. The present study provides a firm base
for the efficient use of polypropylene fiber reinforced concrete in actual construction such
as pavements and slab structures.
The internal or external restraint of thermal and dry shrinkage movements could thus generate tensile stresses in concrete pavement for early traffic opening. Restrained shrinkage and thermal stresses could produce microcracks in concrete which increase its permeability and accelerate its long-term deterioration under weathering and load effects. Fiber reinforced concrete is an effective approach to the control of microcrack and crack development under tensile stresses. This study aims at evaluation of the durability of high early strength concrete for early traffic opening and increase of service life. Three different types of regulated-set cement which recently has been used much in Korea were adopted. Fibers were added and their mixtures were compared with plain high early strength concrete mixture. The use of fibers increased durability performance of high early strength concrete using regulated-set cement than the corresponding plain mixtures.

Residual stress is developed in the injection molded articles during the molding process due to temperature variation and shear stress. The residual stress causes the deformation and warpage in the injection molded parts shortly within several days or after several years. Therefore, the injection molding conditions should be optimized to reduce the residual stress. And residual stress in the part should be also relaxed after molding process to maintain its shape. According to the annealing conditions, such as relative humidity, temperature and time, this study investigates the relaxation of residual stress generated in the transparent injection molded specimens. Through the experimental results, it was realized that the residual stress was relaxed at a relative humidity higher than 50%. Utilizing photoelasticity equipment, it was found that the residual stress was rapidly relaxed near glass transition temperature. Additionally, we recognized that the specimen shrunk along the flow direction but expanded to the perpendicular direction of the flow during the annealing processes, which resulted in the warpage of the specimen.
Traditional external post-tensioning method using either steel bars or tendons is commonly used as a retrofitting method for concrete bridges. However, the external post-tensioning method has some disadvantages such as stress concentration at anchorages and inefficient load carrying capability regarding live loads. Thermal prestressing method is a newly proposed method for strengthening and rehabilitation of concrete girder bridges. Founded on a simple concept of thermal expansion and contraction of steel, the method is a hybrid method of external post-tensioning and steel plate bonding, combining the merits of two methods. In this paper, basic concepts of the method are presented and an illustrative experiment is introduced. From actual experimental data, the thermal prestressing effect is substantiated and the FEM approach for its analysis is verified.

A temperature of deformation and the state and direction of paleostress at that time when twins in calcite grains had been produced were observed, using analysis of calcite twins as indicators of paleostress history. The study was performed with the target of carbonate rocks distributed randomly small size in the southern area of south Korea. Considering the appearance of twins (thin or thick straight twins with one or two twin sets), average twin strain (1.235-7.453%), thickness ($0.77-1.94{\mu}m$) and intensity (25.26-41.99 twins/mm) from the results of calculated calcite twins, it is estimated that calcite twins were produced under temperatures lower than approximately $150-200^{\circ}C$. In the magnitudes and directions of principal strains, the maximum shortening strain axis ($e_3\leftrightarrow{\sigma}_1$) is approximately N-S direction in the GS-1 area in the southern Gyeongsang Basin as well as in the BS-1 area in the southern Yongnam Massif, whereas E-W direction in the NR-1 area in the southwestern Ogcheon Fold Belt. In case of the maximum extension strain axis ($e_1\leftrightarrow{\sigma}_3$), it is oriented in NW-SE and NE-SW directions in the GS-1 and BS-1 area, respectively, and in N-S direction in the NR-1 area. That is, it is suggested that the paleostress which produced the calcite twins may be applied at least more than two times in the study area.
The purpose of the present study is first to refine the mathematical material models for moisture and temperature distributions in early-age concrete and then to incorporate those models into finite element procedure. The three dimensional finite element program developed in the present study can determine the degree of hydration, temperature and moisture distribution in hardening concrete. It is assumed that temperature and humidity fields are fully uncoupled and only the degree of hydration is coupled with two state variables. Mathematical formulation of degree of hydration Is based on the combination of three rate functions of reaction. The effect of moisture condition as well as temperature on the rate of reaction is considered in the degree of hydration model. In moisture transfer, diffusion coefficient is strongly dependent on the moisture content in pore system. Many existing models describe this phenomenon according to the composition of mixture, especially water to cement ratio, but do not consider the age dependency. Microstructure is changing with the hydration and thus transport coefficients at early ages are significantly higher because the pore structure in the cement matrix is more open. The moisture capacity and sink are derived from age-dependent desorption isotherm. Prediction of a moisture sink due to the hydration process, i.e. self-desiccation, is related to autogenous shrinkage, which may cause early-age cracking in high strength and high performance concrete. The realistic models and finite element program developed in this study provide fairly good results on the temperature and moisture distribution for early-age concrete and correlate very well with actual test data.
In this study, the behavior of urban subway tunnels is measured using instrumentation sensors installed in the lining concrete inside subway tunnels in order to analyze their behavior according to temperature variations. It is observed that the stresses of the concrete lining, tunnel convergence, and cracks change according to the temperature variations. However, the crack deformation differs depending on the size and status of the crack. In addition, this study proposes a correction formula for the lining stress and tunnel convergence through numerical analyses of the concrete lining according to the temperature variations. The results of this research can be used in the tunnel maintenance considering the tunnel behavior depending on the temperature variations in the tunnel.

Quality control of early age concrete significantly influences the long term performance. Primary factors for early age concrete quality control should include the relative humidity and temperature variation, and these are more important as structures become massive and huge. Temperature raise due to cement hydration causes stress, which can develop to cracking with internal and/or external restraints. Exposure conditions including ambient temperature, humidity and wind also significantly affect the cracking behavior of early age concrete. Among many of studies on the early age concrete behavior, investigation on the variation of temperature and relative humidity internal of concrete is not common. That is in part because the difficulties in measuring the relative humidity and temperature inside the concrete. This study used a digital sensor with an appropriate logger to measure internal temperature and relative humidity. This direct measuring method is expected to provide more reliable and comprehensive data acquisition on the early age behavior of concrete.
