The iSchool movement has been rapidly spread out since the foundation of iSchool Caucus (iCaucus) in 2005, which currently 52 schools have joined across 16 countries. This research aims to investigate the advances in this movement and its impact on education and research in the field of library and information science (LIS) in order to explore future trends in LIS education and research. To do so, this study classifies 21 ALA-accredited iSchools into three groups suggested by King (2006) and comparatively analyzes each group in terms of its temporal advances and curriculum characteristics. Moreover, as the new movement of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) has been rapidly progressing with the initiative of North American schools since 2012, this study also intends to diagnose the possibility of its spillover effect in LIS education by examining application cases.

Massive Open Online Courses(MOOC), originally started from United States, have recently received a great deal of attention all over the world. MOOC means free online courses that anyone can attend anytime. In Korea, KERIS(Korea Education and Research Information Service) and some universities provide various MOOC services. The purpose of this paper is to present current status and improvement suggestions of MOOC. We first introduce the formal definition and history of MOOC, then discuss current status of MOOC services in Korea and other countries. We finally present improvement suggestions that include induction of active participation for universities, value creation for campus, development of revenue model, providing motivation to students for finishing courses, development of LMS(Learning Management System), securing well-trained lecturers, translation of lecture materials, ensuring quality of authentification system of MOOC services.

Many universities are offering some of their offline courses for anyone to learn free online as an MOOC format. University libraries In response to changing university conditions, foreign university libraries are struggling to redefine their roles and provide new services. This study aimed to find the trends and models to support MOOCs in foreign libraries and Library and information science domain by conducting a systematic review of studies on foreign library and information journals which have been published from 2012 to 2015. A total of 34 out of 348 studies were included in the final analysis. This study also aimed to present the limits and the future models of MOOC support direction. The relevant articles could be identified, two criteria: 24 MOOCs studies relating to Libraries and 10 MOOCs studies related to LIS. The selected articles were summarized and analyzed yearly. The study identifies elements of library MOOC support models in 5 areas including MOOC design (copyright clearance and consulting, content licensing, open content), production support (course production, video editing, librarian MOOC production), management support (instructional design and content creation, students support), evaluation (MOOC data collection, analysis), reuse (MOOC metadata management, archive structure). Based on these findings, this study suggested the models of library MOOC support and set the theoretical fundamentals.
