  • Till now, Korean spelling proofreading system has corrected words of a sentence from the relationship of a collocation or the grammatical information of the sentence. In this paper, we propose a system that corrects a word using the relationship among the sememes in a single sentence and substitutes an apt word for a word of the sentence that has the meaningful mistake by a mistyping. The proposed system makes several sentences that are able to communicate with each sememe. The substantives forms meaning tree according to the meaning of the word and the predicate of a sentence defines the meaningful relationship between a substantives of the subject and the object. After this system compares and analyzes the relationship of meaning, it corrects the mistyping of a word in a single sentence that includes an error. If the system finds out the semantic error by the mistyping, it applies the spelling proofreading method that proposed in this paper.

  • Researches of Hangul automation have been focused mainly on the set of character system. But, practical problem of using the Korean standard keyboard system of two sets is increment of errors and fatigue due to frequent use of shift keys. The author formulate a hypothesis as follows to solve the problem. 'Changing location and design of shift keys can reduce errors in typing Korean by avoiding interferences with other keys when pressing shift keys.' This study verify the hypothesis by the analysis of experiments using improved keyboard prototypes which have changed layout and design of shift keys. On the result, change of shift key location causes confusion to experienced user. But, while keeping its location, removing other keys at the bottom row and magnifying size of shift keys decrease errors in typing by avoiding interferences. And, the efficiency of typing in Korean is increased, too, because there is not any influence on typing speed. This study focuses on layout and design of shift keys only, but further study for entire layout of keyboard including alternative location of other function keys is needed to improve general usability.

  • At Otani University in Kyoto, Japan, there is a rubbed copy of Tripitaka Koreana, presumably printed in 1381. According to the postscript of the copy, written by Saek Lee himself, the rubbed copy was made at Haeinsa temple in 1381 and was kept at Sinluksa temple in Yeuju. The copy was delivered as a gift to Japan in 1414 and now is kept at the Library of Otani University. Although an approximate summary of the content of the copy was reported in the early 2000s after a basic survey, details of the copy, including the concrete format and packaging paper, are not known yet. In this paper a detailed survey of the copy is conducted on the 109 pages. The copy is divided into two parts: the wrapping and the inner pages. The wrapping paper is divided into yellow and brown colors depending on the material of the paper. The yellow colorwrapping paper was possibly made in 1381 at the time of the rubbed printing, and the brown wrapping paper was repaired after being moved to Japan. Using funds collected in February 1380, the copy of Gyeong(經), Yul(律), and Ron(論) chapters was printed in April 1381. Binding of the copy was completed in September, and the wrapping paper with the title in gold was made in October 1380. The box for keeping Buddhist scriptures was manufactured in November 1380. The copy was moved to Sinluksa temple in April 1382 and delivered to Japan in 1414. At Otani University, the copy is stored in separate rectangular boxes 32.1×25.3cm in size with a height of 23.6cm. The rectangular plate on the four sides is red in external color but black colorinside. The box for keeping Buddhist scriptures was probably made in 1381, but a partial repair was made later. Because of the difficulty of executing a detailed survey of the box for Buddhist scriptures, it is hard to find out its nation and period of production. We look forward to studying the copy as well as the box for Buddhist scriptures in future.

  • Malassezia spp. was isolated from the skin lesion of a South American Sea Lion (Otaria byronia) in South Korea. Colonies were cream to yellowish with smooth margin on Sabouraud dextrose agar without lipid supplements. Yeast cells were ovoid to cylindrical in shape and budding daughter cells from broad base. We conducted 26s rRNA sequencing to specify the strain of the yeast and found out this isolate highly matched with Malassezia pachydermatis isolated from canine otitis. The pulse therapy of oral itraconazole was very effective in this case. M. pachydermatis has a wide range of host animals but this is the first report in a sea lion in South Korea.

  • A user often searches a data by inputting a variant such as the abbreviation or substring of a word, or a misspelled word. The simple approach to the searching for variants is to build a variants dictionary. However, it entails enormous cost and time and can not handle variants by misspelling. Approximate searching, searching by approximate string matching, is a good approach to the searching. A problem in the approach is that it cannot handle variants by abbreviations. This paper propose a method for searching various variants including abbreviations and misspelled words, by using the trie indexing. First, this paper shows a variant matching method with the calculation of path weighted-metric. In addition, it provides variant searching algorithm to reduce the search time.
