This paper analyses the dynamic causal relationship between vessel export and economic growth using annual data over the period from 1977 to 2006. Tests for ADF unit-roots, the dynamic vector using Johansen's multiple cointegration procedure, dynamic vector error correction model and impulse response function are presented. The findings of the Granger test suggest that vessel export Granger-causes economic growth in the short-run and economic growth Granger-causes exports in the short and long-run. The empirical results of impulse-response analysis show that the vessel export to a shock in real GDP responds positively and the real GDP responds positively to the shocks in vessel export. Also, the results indicate that the impact of vessel export shock on the real GDP is short-lived.
The purpose of this study is to examine the causuality among export and import trading volume of port of Busan, Kwangyang, Incheon and to induce policy implications. In order to test whether time series data is stationary and the model is fitness or not, we put in operation unit root test, cointegration test. And We apply Granger causality and impulse response and variance decomposition based on VECM. The results indicate that the trading volume of port of Busan is not largely influenced by that of port of Kawangyang and Incheon, but the trading volume of port of Kawangyang and Incheon is largely influenced by other ports including port of Busan. The result suggest that government has to focus on policy that the port of Kawangyang and Incheon can raise its own competitiveness in the world market.
This paper investigates the determinants of trade on Southeast Asia via Korean ports using monthly data. I employ Johansen cointegration methodology since the model must be stationary to avoid the spurious results. Johansen(1988) and Johansen and Juselius(1990) propose two statistics for testing the number of cointegrating vectors: the trace and maximum eigenvalue statistics. The null hypothesis that there is no cointegrating vector should be rejected at the 5% level. The results indicate that there is a long-run relationship between trade and variables. This also suggests that these variables have a meaningful equilibrium relationship between trade and variables would not move too far away from each other, displaying a comovement phenomenon for the export and import. Apparently, the error correction term reflects market information in a state of disequilibrium that is bound to be corrected when moving toward the long-run level.
Estimating the Bass diffusion model often creates a time-interval bias, which leads the OLS approach to overestimate sales at early stages and underestimate sales after the peak. Further, a specification error from omitted variables might raise serial correlations among residuals when marketing actions are not incorporated into the diffusion model. Autocorrelated disturbances may yield unbiased but inefficient estimation, and therefore invalid inference results. This phenomenon warrants a modified approach to estimating the Bass diffusion model. In this paper, the authors propose a modified Bass diffusion model handling autocorrelated disturbances. To validate the new approach, authors applied the method on two different data-sets: CT Scanners in the U.S, and FPD TV sales in Korea. The results showed improved model fit and the validity of the proposed model.
This paper adopts recently developed panel unit root test that is cross-sectionally robust. Cointegration test is also used to find whether regional house prices are in line with gross regional domestic production (GRDP) in the long run in Korea during 1989-2009. Based on the panel VECM and the panel ARDL models, we examine causal relationships among the variables and estimate the long-run elasticity. We find evidence of cointegration and bidirectional causal relationships between regional house prices and GRDP. The results of long-run estimates, using both fixed effect and ARDL models, show that house prices positively and significantly influence on the GRDP and vice versa. Together with these results, the findings of ARDL-ECM imply that there exists a long-run equilibrium relationship between house prices and regional economic variables even if there is a possibility of short-run deviation from its long-run path.
We compare four methods to estimate a regression coefficient under linear regression models with serially correlated errors. We assume that regression errors are generated with nonlinear autoregressive models. The four methods are: ordinary least square estimator, general least square estimator, parametric regression error correction method, and nonparametric regression error correction method. We also discuss some properties of nonlinear autoregressive models by presenting numerical studies with typical examples. Our numerical study suggests that no method dominates; however, the nonparametric regression error correction method works quite well.
This study porvides an empirical overview of the import patterns of Incheon port using an Engle-Granger cointegration technique and Johansen's multivariate cointegraion methodology test to check the stationarity of the model. The empirical results show that the import in Incheon port related to the economic variables. This paper also applies rolling regression to our model, indicating that import are endogeneous to the economic variable.
The effect of real exchange rate changes on trade balance is called the J-curve effect. That is, after real depreciation, the trade balance will deteriorate in the short run and improve in the long run. Specially, import and export prices respond with little or no decline in volume. Assuming a zero initial trade balance and dominance of the exporter currency in invoicing trade contracts, the trade balance continues to deteriorate in the medium term. Over time, the relative price-induced volume effect comes to dominate the price effect and the trade balance improves. This pattern of the trade balance adjustment is commonly referred to as the J-curve effect. This study examines the effects of changes in the exchange rate on the Korean port trade balance to China. The empirical results indicate that whilst there is J-curve effect in the short-run, but in the long-run, the real depreciation of the Korean won has positive impact on port trade balance to China.

It is necessary to check mutual correlations between related variables because housing prices are influenced by a lot of variables of the economy both internally and externally. In this paper, employing the Granger causality test, we have validated interrelated relationship between the variables. In addition, there is cointegration associations in the results of the cointegration test between the variables. Therefore, an analysis using a vector error correction model including an error correction term has been attempted. As a result of the empirical comparative analysis of the forecasting performance with ARIMA and VAR models, it is confirmed that the forecasting performance by vector error correction model is superior to those of the former two models.
This paper examines the relationship between port import from China and macroeconomic variables such as international financial crisis, exchange rate, and industrial production during the period 2000-2009. I employ GPH cointegration methodology since the model must be stationary to avoid the spurious results. The empirical results show that our model is stationary as well as mean-reverting. This paper also applies impulse-response functions to get additional information regarding the responses of the port import to the shocks economic variables such as financial crisis, exchange rate, and industrial production. The results show that the response of port import to exchange rate and financial crisis declines at the first and dies out slowly.
