  • In this paper, we propose multiple location error compensation algorithm for GPS/INS fusion using kalman filter and introduce the way to reduce location error in 9-axis navigation devices for implementing inertial navigation technique. When evaluating location, there is an increase of location error. So navigation systems need robust algorithms to compensate location error in GPS/INS fusion. In order to improve robustness of 9-axis inertial sensor(mpu-9150) over its disturbance, we used tilt compensation method using compensation algorithm of acceleration sensor and Yaw angle compensation to have exact azimuth information of the object. And it shows improved location result using these methods combined with kalman filter.

  • A calibration technique for a redundant IMU with low-grade inertial sensors is proposed. In order to calibrate the redundant IMU that can detect and isolate a faulty sensor, the fundamental coordinate frames in the IMU are defined and the IMU error is modeled based on the frames. Equations to estimate the error coefficients of the redundant IMU are formulated, and a test sequence using the 2-axis rate table is also presented. Finally, a redundant IMU with cone configuration is implemented using the low-grade inertial sensors and the performance of the proposed technique is verified by some experiments.

  • In GPS/INS/barometer navigation system for UAV, vertical channel damping loop was introduced to suppress divergence of the vertical axis error of INS, which could be reduced to the level of accuracy of pressure altitude measured by a pitot-static tube. Because static pressure measured by the pitot-static tube depends on the speed and attitude of the vehicle, static pressure error models, based on aerodynamic data from wind tunnel test, CFD analysis, and flight test, were applied to reduce the error of pressure altitude. Through flight tests and sensitivity analyses, the error model using the ratio of differential pressure and static pressure turned out to be superior to the model using only differential pressure, especially in case of high altitude flight. Both models were proposed to compensate the effect of vehicle speed change and used differential and static pressure which could be obtained directly from the output of pressure transducer.

  • Gravity anomalies observed in shipborne survey are usually distorted by bad weather conditions and unexpected vessel movement. These distorted data should be removed because they may mislead the data interpretation. However, it is not possible to perfectly remove all erroneous data. Cross-over point correction, which is generally used, only reduces the errors at cross-over points, and thus the data still contain error values. To resolve this drawback, Rauch-Tung-Striebel(RTS) filter was adopted to minimize all errors in the data and at cross-over points. After applying this method, the range of anomaly variation is reduced from 15 mGal to less than 2 mGal, and errors at the cross-over points are minimized from 4.21 mGal to 2.95 mGal. The results imply that RTS filter is very useful to reduce errors in the data and corss-over points.

  • It is confirmed that as the distance measurements accuracy of the SDS-TWR(Symmetric Double-Sided Two-Way Ranging) based on CSS(Chirp Spread Spectrum) is considerably degraded due to frequency interference and it causes to severe errors in the localization applications. In this paper, the compensation algorithm based on error rate offset of distance measurement ($CA_d$) is proposed for the purpose to reduce the ranging errors due to by the SDS-TWR ranging problems. The $CA_d$ measures the distance values between two nodes by means of 1m interval about 1~25m distances in the SDS-TWR, and compensates the distance values using the parameters related to the distance compensation. From the experiments, it is analyzed that the $CA_d$. have reduced the distance error to average 95cm and maximum 526cm, and the distance error by the $CA_d$ was below about 60cm in the 25m distances. In particular, the performance of the distance measurements accuracy by the $CA_d$ is very high in LOS(Line Of Sight) environments.

  • Maritime object detection systems, which detects small maritime obstacles such as fish farm buoys and visualizes distance and direction, is equipped with a 3-axis gimbal to compensate for errors caused by hull motion, but there is a limit to distance error corrections necessitated by the vertical movement of the camera and the maritime object due to wave motions. Therefore, in this study, the distance error of maritime object detection systems caused by the movement of the water surface according to the external environment is analyzed and corrected using average filter and moving average filter. Random numbers following a Gaussian standard normal distribution were added to or subtracted from the image coordinates to reproduce the rise or fall of the buoy under irregular waves. The distance calculated according to the change of image coordinates, the predicted distance through the average filter and the moving average filter, and the actual distance measured by laser distance meter were compared. In phases 1 and 2, the error rate increased to a maximum of 98.5% due to the changes of image coordinates due to irregular waves, but the error rate decreased to 16.3% with the moving average filter. This error correction capability was better than with the average filter, but there was a limit due to failure to respond to the distance change. Therefore, it is considered that use of the moving average filter to correct the distance error of the maritime object detection system will enhance responses to the real-time distance change and greatly improve the error rate.
