Development of the Vortex Tube for Automotive Exhaust System (자동차 배기계 적용을 위한 와류 튜브의 개발)

  • 볼텍스 튜브는 고압의 가스를 이용하여 고온 가스와 저온 가스를 분리하거나 입자상 물질의 분리에 사용 할 수 있는 장치이다. 본 연구에서는 직경 10mm의 볼텍스 튜브의 기본 설계 자료를 구축하기 위하여 에너지 분리 성능 실험을 수행하였다. 설계를 위한 기초 자료를 확보하기 위하여, 공급압력, 볼텍스 발생기의 오리피스 직경 및 튜브의 길이가 에너지 분리 특성에 미치는 영향력을 실험을 통하여 분석하였다. 결과적으로 오리피스 직경과 공급압력이 볼텍스 튜브의 성능의 지배적인 성능인자임을 확인하였다. 튜브길이가 성능에 미치는 영향은 미미하였다.

  • Capillary and short tube orifice have been widely used as an expansion device in refrigeration and air-conditioning system. To improve the system performance, expansion devices need to be optimized with the components of a refrigeration system. In the present study, a numerical model for a capillary, which can predict properties along a tube and flow rate through a tube, was developed by assuming homogeneous two-phase flow, A semi-empirical flow model that can be used to evaluate the flow rate through a short tube orifice was also developed by summarizing the experimental data. Finally, the results of the numerical model for capillaries were compared with those of the semi-empirical model for short tube orifices to verify dominant flow factors for the expansion devices.

Calculations of Pressure Difference in Orifice Flowmeter using CFD (CFD를 이용한 오리피스 유량계의 차압계산)

  • In this study, commercial CFD code, i.e, CFX-4.3 is used to analyze the flow field and to calculate pressure differences in an orifice flowmeter. Four numerical schemes and five turbulence models are tested. Hybrid scheme and Reynolds stress model show the best performance. Chosen scheme and turbulence model are applied to predict pressure differences through the orifice for the diameter ratios, 0.3, 0.5, and 0.7. And, the results are compared with the experimental data. The results show that the calculation error is inversely proportional to the diameter ratio, and is proportional to the mass flow rate.

  • The orifice establishment which is improper does to change the entity differential pressure and occurs an error in flow measurement data. Because of this, the thermal power of nuclear power plant could be evaluated excessively and the safety margin could be decreased. In this paper, characters of orifice which is established abnormally was investigated. Specially, the orifice plate which is established in opposition case was modeled and analyzed. Finally, 14.4% was lowly measured differential pressure, when being established in the resultant opposition. And this result with EPRI and NRC experiences was similar.

  • Three-dimensional pipe flows with elbows and tees for few different pipe fittings are calculated to estimate the effect of swirling flow on measuring accuracy of orifice flow meter. It is evaluated how the pressure difference across the orifice is dependent on the length of upstream straight pipe in a branch and how swirl intensity, swirl angel and axial velocity distribution affect the measuring error of orifice flowmeter. From the results, it is found that, regardless of flow rate specified in this calculation, the effect of the straight pipe length can be neglected for the lengths larger than thirty diameters although there still remain significant swirl at the orifice

  • A numerical model for the analysis and design of orifice pulse tube refrigerators has been developed. Heat transfer coefficient and friction factors in the model vary with time, and the real physical properties such as thermal conductivity and viscosity were used to improve the accuracy of the model. Thermodynamic behavior of the working fluid within pulse tube refrigerators was investigated and the effect of design parameters, such as reservoir volume, orifice diameter, and NTU of regenerator, on the cooling load and COP was shown.

  • An orificed fluid damper(OFD) having the capacity of about 2 tons was designed and fabricated, and series of tests were performed to grasp the fundamental performance characteristics of it. Several important findings were observed and introduced in this paper. It was applied to a 6-story steel structure under random excitation and seismic excitation for the confirmation of its validity on structural vibration absolution. The experimental results demonstrated that the addition of an OFD to the test structure is very effective in reduction of vibration level of the higher modes as well as the fundamental mode. Maxwell model was adopted to describe the frequency-dependent characteristics of the fabricated OFD and the numerical simulation was carried for the test structure. It was confirmed that the experimentally and numerically simulated results agree well.

DISTORTION OF FLOW MEASUREMENT BY VARIOUS INLET VELOCITY PROFILE OF ORIFICE FLOWMETER (오리피스 유량계의 입구 속도 분포에 따른 유량 계측 왜곡 특성)

  • In this numerical analysis, the distortion of flow measurement by inlet velocity profile of orifice flowmeter was investigated. To validate the numerical method, the convergence was monitored and the grid dependency was also checked. realizable k-e model was selected and y+ was about 50 in this calculation. the results shows that the pressure at the pressure tab near pipe wall was changed by inclined inlet velocity profile and it leads to distorted a measurement values of flow through the orifice plate from -3.8% to 9%. Therefore, the fully developed inlet flow was required for accurate flow measurement by orifice flowmeter. If not, the orifice plate installed at wrong location should be re-installed or additional actions should be taken.

  • Cushion sleeves are used in pneumatic cylinders to avoid impact force arising at the end stroke part between moving piston and cylinder cover. In this study low kinds of cushion sleeves are designed, manufactured and attached to the pneumatic cylinder to be experimented. The effects of cushion sleeves on cushion characteristics are investigated. e results are as follows; the pressure variation of cushion room with orifices are inspected to be smaller than that of cushion room without orifices. So sleeves with orifices are expected as protecting from impact and vibration of pneumatic cylinder. The object of this study is to provide data on the charactristics of pneumatic cushion sleeve in case of being used in industry.

Waterhammering on Pump Pipeline Systems (펌프 관로계의 수격현상)

  • 본 연구에서는 에어챔버가 설치된 펌프관로계에서 수격현상에 대한 현장실험을 실시하고, 에어챔버의 입력변수 및 설계인자가 수격현상에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 수치계산과 실험을 통하여 조사한 후 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. (1) 수치계산에 사용된 입력변수중 폴리트로프지수, 오리피스 유량계수, 압력파 전파속도순으로 수격현상에 대한 영향이 크게 나타났으며, 수치계산은 이 변수값이 각각 1.3, 0.7, 1,050m/s일 때 측정된 압력변동 및 공기체적변화를 가장 잘 모사하였다. (2) 에어챔버내 초기공기체적이 증가하면 압축공기의 압력변화율이 작아지기 때문에 수격현상의 주기는 길어지고, 관로내 압력변화는 감소하였다. 측관에 설치한 오리피스 내경을 줄임으로써 상승압은 상당히 완화되었으며, 시간이 지남에 따라 수격작용도 보다 빨리 감쇄되었다. 수치계산결과는 수격현상의 1-2주기까지 측정값과 비교적 잘 일치하였으며, 펌프관로계에 작용하는 최대.최소압력 및 그 발생시간도 합리적으로 예측되었다. (3) 수치계산은 측정된 과도특성 값들을 약 5%이내의 오차로 예측하였으며, 개발된 전산프로그램은 실제 펌프관로계에 대한 수격완화장치를 설계하는데 매우 유용하게 사용될 것으로 판단된다.
