Scene Text Recognition is a technology used in the field of artificial intelligence that requires manless robot, automatic vehicles and human-computer interaction. Though scene text images are distorted by noise interference, such as illumination, low resolution and blurring. Unlike previous studies that recognized only English, this paper shows a strong recognition accuracy including various characters, English, Korean, special character and numbers. Instead of selecting only one class having the highest probability value, a candidate word can be generated by considering the probability value of the second rank as well, thus a method can be corrected an existing language misrecognition problem.

The Effects of the Story Character Phonics on Preschoolers' Early Reading Abilities and Affective Domains The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of the story character phonics on preschoolers' early reading abilities (phonemic awareness and phonics abilities) and their affective domains. 24 participants in the present study were seven years old, and they were divided into two different groups at S kindergarten in Chungnam. There were 12 preschoolers in the experimental group with the story character phonics, and 12 preschoolers in the control group learned English by the story phonics focusing on phonemic awareness and vocabulary for 6 weeks. The results were as follows: First, the story character phonics was more effective in improving the preschoolers' early reading abilities than using the story phonics. Secondly, the story character phonics had some positive effects on the preschoolers' affective domains. This study proved that practicing with the story character phonics is more effective for preschoolers to develop their early reading abilities of English and their affective domains.

The purpose of this article is to investigate ways of making the cloze test more valid as an English proficiency test so that it can provide a better format for the cloze test especially to the non-native teachers in EFL environments. This investigation identifies ways of validity in terms of materials, deletion rates, item characteristics and scoring methods used in cloze tests. An increase in test validity can be accomplished by knowing how the four factors affect the cloze test results and how to manipulate them. Practical suggestions are provided for teachers to design a cloze test. Teachers can develop the reliability and validity of cloze tests by manipulating the four factors. In seeking a more valid and reliable cloze format, this research gives some suggestions based on a literature review. We can conclude that a cloze test can be valid only when teachers are aware of the factors which affect the test result and the ways to handle the factors to make the test appropriate for their test purposes.

The purpose of this research is to suggest a model or method of needs analysis for designing syllabuses. As the learner-centered approach in teaching and learning methods becomes general, the learners' needs or wants should be reflected on the syllabus design. However, standardized scores in the previous research have disadvantages to be distorted in data interpretations because the difference between the maximum value and minimum value is so big compared to the Likert 5 scales. To solve this disadvantage, the Max-Min method is used in the needs analysis for the syllabus design. So, the differences are presented. Needs analyses need to be selected variously according to situations. Thus, further researches are needed to develop several new methods as well as the Max-Min method or the standardized score method for the whole needs analyses.

우리 전통식품중의 하나인 약과를 미국 현지인에게 수출을 위한 기초자료로 활용하고자 2002년 8월에 시카코, 아틀란타, 뉴욕, 샌프란시스코 지역 미국인 350명을 대상으로 디자인과 포장표시사항을 영어로 인쇄한 약과의 기호도 조사를 실시하였다. 동부지역의 1차 기호도 조사는 코넬대학교 학생과 직원을 대상으로 하였으며, 조사 대상자는 남녀 각각 20대와 30대를 위주로 조사하였다. 2차 기호도 조사는 40대∼60대 이상의 뉴욕시민을 대상으로 각각 남녀를 구분하여 실시하였다. 전체적으로 볼 때 남녀 성별에 관계없이 포장, 디자인, 인쇄와 냄새가 좋은 것으로 나타났으며 약과에 대한 선호도는 남성이 여성보다 다소 높게 나타났다. 세부적으로 볼 때 남자의 경우 연령이 낮을수록 인쇄상태를, 연령이 높을수록 향과 품질에 더 높은 점수를 주었으며 여자의 경우에는 포장상태와 디자인을 중시하는 것을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 외국인들의 기호에 맞는 인쇄, 디자인, 포장을 한다면 우리나라 전통 한과인 약과의 수출을 확대시킴으로서 우리 전통의 식품의 세계화가 가능할 것으로 판단되었다.

This study carried out an experimental English pronunciation assessment to see the differences in the relationship between the different rater categories. The result shows that i) correlation between Korean and Native American raters is high(r=.98) enough to be considered reliable, ii) previous instructions about assessment rubric and the knowledge about English phonetics and phonology exert little influence on the rating scores, iii) correlation between the automatic ILT(Interactive Language Tutor) rating using speech recognition technology and Natives' rating is stronger than that between ILT and Koreans' rating.

외국어학습의 성공여부는 학습자의 강한 동기유발에 달렸는데, 현재 우리나라에서는 영어학습의 강세에 밀려 프랑스어를 포함한 제 2 외국어 학습 열의가 점차 사라져 가고 있는 실정이다. 각 대학에 프랑스어를 전공하는 학과가 존재하는 한, 프랑스어 교육은 계속되어질 것이나, 과거와는 달리 고등학교에서 프랑스어의 기초를 배우고 대학의 프랑스어 학과에 입학하는 학생의 수가 점차 줄어들고 있다. 또한 현재의 대학 입시 제도가 학생들의 학과에 대한 적성 여부와 상관없이 수능성적 결과 점수에 따라 학과를 정하게 되므로 처음부터 프랑스어를 배우고자 하는 동기가 결여된 상태에서 전공 언어 학습을 시작하게 된다. 프랑스어를 가르치면서 현장에서 가장 고심하게 되는 문제는 첫째 학생들에게 어떻게 하면 프랑스어에 대한 흥미를 유발시킬 수 있는가 하는 점이고, 둘째로는 대학 4년이라는 짧은 기간 동안 어떻게 하면 정확한 프랑스어를 학습시킬 수 있는가 하는 것이다. 차세대 성장동력으로 서정된 '디지털콘텐츠'의 지원 사업을 주관하는 주요 역할을 맏고 있는 한국소프트웨어진흥원(KIPA)의 디지털 콘텐츠 사업단이 권택민 전 하나로 통신 상무를 새로운 사령탐으로 선임했다. KIPA는 두자리수의 경쟁률을 보인 공개채용을 통해 권택민 전 하나로 통신 경영기획 담당 상무를 디지털콘텐츠지원사업의 적임자로 선택했다. 권 신임단장은 동국대 영어영문학과를 졸업한 후 지난 84년 데이콤에 입사, 비서실장 '마케팅부장' 차세대 무선사업 추진 티맞을 거쳐 하나로 통신에서 경영기획실장, 경영기획담당 상무를 역임했다. 이번 권 신임단당의 선임배경에는 정본통신 분야에서의 풍부한 현장경험과 함께 국내 디지털콘텐츠 시장을 바라보는 통찰력 등이 높은 점수를 받은것으로 전해졌다. 그는 특히 기획력과 창의력, 마케팅 능력등이 뛰어나 하나로통신 재직시절에도 주요 정책결정 과정에 적지 않는 역할을 담당한 것으로 알려졌다. 취임한지 꼭 한달을 맞이한 지난달 23일 가락 KIPA 집무실에서 인터뷰가 이뤄졌다.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the relations between phonetic differences among Korean learners' production of English front vowels, pronunciation intelligibility and speaking proficiency test score. To do so, thirty Korean university students were asked (1) to read English text book paragraphs and (2) describe a picture. Two English native raters and one Korean rater evaluated Korean subjects' English pronunciation intelligibility and speaking. In addition, subjects' English vowel productions were acoustically analyzed(F0, F1, F2, vowel duration, intensity). The results of the study show that the vowel quality and pitch of the unstressed vowels and lax vowel are related to the pronunciation intelligibility. In addition, the scores of pronunciation intelligibility and speaking are highly related.

관계 추출은 두 개체 간의 관계를 식별하는 작업이며, 비정형 텍스트를 구조화시키는 역할을 하는 작업 중 하나이다. 현재 관계 추출에서 다양한 모델에 대한 연구들이 진행되고 있지만, 한국어 관계 추출 모델에 대한 연구는 영어에 비해 부족하다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 NE(Named Entity)태그 정보가 반영된 TEM(Typed Entity Marker)과 의존 구문 그래프를 이용한 한국어 관계 추출 모델을 제안한다. 모델의 학습과 평가 말뭉치는 KLUE에서 제공하는 관계 추출 학습 말뭉치를 사용하였다. 실험 결과 제안 모델이 68.57%의 F1 점수로 실험 모델 중 가장 높은 성능을 보여 NE태그와 구문 정보가 관계 추출 성능을 향상시킬 수 있음을 보였다.
