Theory of Network city and perspective on development of the Yeongnam region (네트워크도시 이론과 영남권 지역의 발전 전망)

  • This paper is to provide some suggestions to complement and extend theory of network city, and to consider preliminarily its applicability for development of the Yeongnam region, exploring its normative implications for urban and regional policy and its significance of empirical research. In order to resolve some limitations and problems of network city theory and of empirical research, we need to reconsider systematically analysis methods, to extend indices of connectivity, to reconfirm normative characters inherent in network city theory, to suggest the constitution of cooperative governance, and to develop policies for embedding functional connectivity into internal community. In a preliminary analysis of Yeongnam region on the basis of network city theory, it is not clear whether the urban system of the region is entirely a type of network city, even though it seems to be close to network city. However, in order for the Yeongnam region to orient towards network city, we can point out importance of policy issues such as expansion of transportation and communication infrastructure, strengthening of economic connectivity, constitution of cooperative governance, and local embeddedness of functional network within the region.

  • 영남지역의 양계축협 집하장은 대구유통센터, 영주유통센터, 김천집하장 3곳이 운영되었다. 2003년 11월 한국양계농협 출범으로 수익성 증대와 집하장 운영의 효율성을 기하기 위하여 현재는 대구유통센터, 영주유통센터가 남아 물류 전초기지 역할을 하고 있다. 이번 호와 다음호까지 영남권의 양계농협 계란유통센터의 유통현황을 점검하고자 한다. 이번 호는 대구유통센터를 탐방하였다.

  • Today, augmentation of industrial wastes with industrial development demands diminution and recycling technical development for industrial wastes reduction. A statistical research of industry and constructional wastes as a request of the times can achieve the conservation of resource and the protection of environment. The ultimate object of the study is not only diminution and recycling of industrial wastes but also the degree of self-sufficiency in resource and the attainment of comfortable life environment, which can the accomplish the resource circulation system and make progress into the environmentally advanced country. The object of this investigation is industrial classification, a waste discharge quantity, a waste sort, waste disposal of industrial wastes in Yeung-nam area. The investigation of special quality in industrial wastes can be used to establish a wastes management policy and a disposition method .

  • The capitalist economic process of glocalization and development of transportation and communication technology have led us to the significance of network city as well as concepts of global city, megacity region, etc. Network city theory pursues development of both individual cities and of the region of those cities through strengthening of mutual connectivity among them with specialized industries. On the basis of network city theory, this paper is to analyze specialized industries of cities and connectivity among them in the Youngnam region in S. Korea. It uses the methods of locational quotient, locational Gini coefficient, and shift-share method to analyze specialized industries of cities, and correspondence analysis, global and local Moran's I to examine connectivity among cities. As results, it can be identified that each city in the Youngnam region has its own specialized industries different from each others, but it seems not easy to grasp the overall extent of connectivity among them, partly because of the limitations of applied analysis methods and partly because of a lack of connectivity among cities themselves.

Construction of High-Speed Railway Based Living Zone Considering High-order Service Accessibility: focused on comparison between Chungcheong, Yeongnam, Honam and Gangwon Region (고차 서비스 접근성을 고려한 고속철도 연계형 생활권 구축에 관한 연구 -충청권, 영남권, 호남권, 강원권 비교를 중심으로-)

  • In a situation where population decline is intensifying, the decline of local mid-small sized cities is emerging as a social problem. The decline will increase the difficulty of supplying demand-based living services. Therefore, increasing accessibility to living services is important for quality of life. With this background, the purpose of this study is to derive living zones that can use high-order services in metropolitan cities through high-speed railway. To this end, the behaviors of residents in mid-small sized cities were investigated through a questionnaire, and living zones and vulnerable areas were derived through a GIS analysis. The results of the study are summarized as follows. First, most of the residents had experience using cultural, medical, shopping, and educational services in metropolitan cities. Second, the time required to visit a metropolitan city for the use of higher-order services was about 2 hours, and the desired time was about 50 minutes. Third, when accessibility is improved, the willingness to use the higher-order service of the metropolitan city is high. Fourth, many regions have been derived as living zones where services of metropolitan cities can be used through high-speed rail. Lastly, the major vulnerable areas were found to be the northern area of the Gangwon region, the northern area of the Yeongnam region, the west coast of Chungnam, and the border area of Jeonnam and Gyeongnam.
