  • The phase behavior of chlorinated hydrocarbon/mixed surfactants/water microemulsion systems were investigated for dry cleaning solvent properties. With appropriate surfactant mixtures, Winsor type I-III-II microemulsions were generated which is the same as hydrocarbon systems. For perchloroethylene(PCE) with mixed Tween systems, the optimum salinity(S*) decreases and the optimum solubilization parameter(o*) increases with decreas- ing HLB. For PCE with mixed Aerosol MA and ethoxylated alcohol systems, S* and o* both increase with increasing ethylene oxide moles. For dichlorobenzene(DCB) with mixed Aerosol MA and ethoxylated or propoxylated sulfate systems, S* and o* both increase with increasing ethylene oxide moles or propylene oxide moles.

  • The chlorination of $C_7H_16,\;C_8H_18,\;C_10H_22,\;and\;(Me_2CH)_2$ with N-Chlorosuccinimide, tert-BuOCl, $CCl_3SO_2Cl,\;CCl_4,\;CCl_3SCl,\; PCl_5,\;and\;Cl_2\;in\;C_6H_6\;or\;CS_2$ which both form loose complexes with $Cl_2$ atoms yielded mixtures of isomeric monochloroalkanes which were analyzed quantitatively. An isomer ratio differing from that known for the substitution of paraffinic hydrocarbons was observed. The isomer distribution observed is the result of the combined effects of the differing C-H dissociation energies of the different types of H atoms of the alkane and of the free energy of the attacking radical with polar effects of the attacking radical as well as of the hydrocarbon.

Thermal Degradation Characteristics of Carbon Tetrachloride in Excess Hydrogen Atmosphere (과잉수소 반응조건하에서 사염화탄소의 고온 분해반응 특성 연구)

  • pure compound chloromethanes; methyl chloride, methylene chloride, chloroform and The carbon tetrachloride were used as a model of chlorocarbon system with Cl/H ratio to investigate thermal stability and hydrodechlorination process of carbon tetrachloride under excess hydrogen atmosphere. The parent thermal stability on basis of temperature required for 99% destruction at 1 second no was evaluated as $875^{\circ}C$ for $CH_3Cl$, $780^{\circ}C$ for $CH_2Cl_2$, $675^{\circ}C$ for $CHCl_3$ and $635^{\circ}C$ for $CCl_4$. Chloroform was thermally less stable than $CCl_4$ at fairly low temperatures $(<570^{\circ}C).$ The lion of $CCl_4$ became more sensitive to increasing temperature, and $CCl_4$ was degraded CHCl3 at above $570^{\circ}C.$ The number and quantity of chlorinated products decreases with increasing temperature for the Product distribution of $CCl_4$ decomposition reaction system. Formation of non-chlorinated hydrocarbons such as $CH_4$, $C_2H_4$ and C_2H_6$ increased as the temperature rise and particularly small amount of methyl chloride was observed above $850^{\circ}C$ in $CC1_4$/$H_2$ reaction system. The less chlorinated products are more stable, with methyl chloride the most stable chlorocarbon in this reaction system.

Photocatalytic Destruction of Chlorinated and Aromatic Hydrocarbons for Low-Level Indoor Air Cleaning (저농도 실내공기 정화를 위한 염소화 및 방향족 탄화수소의 광촉매 분해)

  • This study evaluated the technical feasibility of the application of $TiO_2$ photocatalysis for the removal of volatile hydrocarbons(VHC) at low ppb concentrations commonly associated with non-occupational indoor air quality issues. A series of experiments was conducted to evaluate five parameters (relative humidity (RH), hydraulic diameter (HD), feeding type (FT) of VHC, photocatalytic oxidation (PCO) reactor material (RM), and inlet port size (IPS) of PCO reactor) for the PCO destruction efficiencies of the selected target VHC. None of the target VHC presented significant dependence on the RH, which are inconsistent with a certain previous study that reported that under conditions of low humidity and a ppm toluene inlet level, there was a drop in the PCO efficiency with decreasing humidity. However, it is noted that the four parameters (HD, RM, FT and IPS) should be considered for better VHC removal efficiencies for the application of $TiO_2$ photocatalytic technology for cleansing non-occupational indoor air. The PCO destruction of VHC at concentrations associated with non-occupational indoor air quality issues can be up to nearly 100%. The amount of CO generated during PCO were a negligible addition to the indoor CO levels. These abilities can make the PCO reactor an important tool in the effort to improve non-occupational indoor air quality.

  • Fluoride-type cleaning agents such as 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol (TFEA) and hydrofluoroethers (HFEs) do not destroy ozone in the stratosphere and have low global warming potential compared to hydrofluorocarbons(HFCs) and hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs). Especially, HFEs which have no flash point are paid attention as next generation type of cleaning agents for chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) since they are safe in handling and have excellent penetration ability compared to hydrocarbon cleaning agents with low flash point. Here, the physical properties and cleaning abilities of fluoride-type cleaning agents such as TFEA, HFE-7100, HFE-7200, HFE-476mec, HFE-449mec-f, AE-3000 and AE-3100E and silicide-type cleaning agents such as trifluoroetoxytrimethylsilane (TFES) and hexamethyldisilazane (HMDS) were measured and compared with those of ozone destruction substances such as CFC-113 and 1,1,1-trichloroethane. They were also compared with toxic methylene chloride (MC) and isopropyl alcohol (IPA) which are now being used as an alternative cleaning agents. As a result, TFEA and HFEs had lower cleaning ability for removal of various soils compared to chloride-type cleaning agents, but they showed excellent cleaning ability fur fluoride-type soils. TFES and HMDS also showed excellent cleaning ability for silicide-type soils.

  • Influence of concentration polarization has been investigated on the vapor permeation of VOCs/$N_2$ mixture. Po]y(dimethylsiloxane)(PD,vIS) membrane which had a good affinit~, toward VOCs was emploj,'c'Cl in this study. The chlorinated hydmcarbons which were part of homologous series of chrolomelhane and chrolocthane were used as organic vapor. The vapor permeation experiments were calTied out at various VOCs feed concentrations. operating temperatures and feed flow rates. With decreasing feed flow rate. the membrane perfonnance, that is. penneation rate and selectivity were reduced in the permeation of VOCs/$N_2$ mixture. Especially the reducing of the membrane performance was founel to be more significant when the condensibility of voe was greater. voe content in the feed mixture was higher or operating temperature was lower. These observations were discussed in terms of the influence of con-centration polarizalion on the permeation of VOCSINl mixture through the PDMS membrane.

  • By using a phenomenological approach, model equations incorporating the resistance-in¬series concept were established to evaluate quantitatively concentration polarization in the boundary layer in feed adjacent to the membrane surface in the vapor permeation and separation of volatile organic compounds (VOCS)/$N_2$ mixture through po]y(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) membrane. The vapor permeations of various VOCS/$N_2$ mixtures through PDMS membrane were carried out at various feed flow rates. Chlorinated hydrocarbons, such as, methylene chloride, chlorofonn, 1,2-clichloroethane and 1,1,2-trichloroethane were used as organic vapor. By fitting the model equations to the experimental penneation data. the model parameters were detennined. respectively. Both the mass transfer coefficient of VOC across tbe boundary layer and concentration polarization modulus as a measure of the extent of concentration polarization were eitimated Quantitatively by the mooe1 equations with the determined model parameters. From the analysis on the detennined model parameters, the boundary layer resistance due to the concentration polarization of VOCs component was found to be more significant when the condensability of voe was greater. This study seeks to emphasize the importance of the boundary resistance on the vapor penneation of the vapor/gas mixtures with high permeability and high selectivity towards the minor component VOC.

  • 직업성 피부질환은 1988년 미국 전체 직업성 질환중 20%에 해당된다(미 노동부 자료 참고). 그 비율은 주에 따라 크게 달라지기도 한다. 피부질환은 어떤 주에서는 보상되는 직업성 질환의 대다수를 차지하기도 한다; 예를 들어, 캘리포니아와 플로리다주에서는 농작물에 의한 접촉성 피부염이 흔하다. 접촉성 피부염은 직업성 피부질환으로 보고되는 가장 흔한 피부질환이다. 이러한 사례의 4/5는 유기용제, 절삭유, 세척유, 알칼리, 산 등과 같은 자극성 화학물질에 대한 노출과 관련이 있다. 자외선은 어떤 화학물질(예를 들면, 코울 타르, 크레오소오트)과 반응하여, 이 화학물질 및 빛에 노출되는 부위에 자극성 접촉성 피부질환을 유발하기도 한다. 1/5의 사례는 에폭시 수지, 크롬, 식물 수지, 그 밖의 많은 것 등 특수 접촉 감광제와 관련될 수 있다. 강한 자극제에 노출되어 발상하는 화학적 화상은 비교적 흔하게 일어난다. 백반과 유사한 피부탈색은 드물게 일어나며 피부 접촉을 통하여 야기하는 특수 화학물질과 관련될 수 있다. 여드름과 모낭염은 기름 및 유지들과의 피부 접촉을 통하여 생겨날 수 있다. 10대 여드름과 구별되는 염소성 여드름이라고 불리는 질환은 여러 종류의 염화 탄화수소들(예를들면 다브롬화 디페닐, 다염화 디페닐, 디옥신)에 노출되어 발생되기도 한다. 신체적인 손상으로 반복되는 외상부위에 가골이 형성되기도 한다. 여러 종류의 일에 특징적인 것(예를 들면 바이올린 연주자의 목에 가골)이 소위 "직업적인 표지" 이다. 전기톱 작동 기술자, 분쇄기 작동기술자, 지하 광산 암석 천공 기술자에게서 발생하는, 손 - 팔 부위의 진동은 오랜기간 혹은 심하게 노출된 노동자에 있어서 - 손에 혈관수축질환 - 진동장애 백색 수지질환을 일으킬 수 있다. 피부암은 직업과 관련이 있다고 할 수 있다. 하지만 몇몇 사례가 산재 관련 기관에 보고외어 있지만, 암등록소에 보고는 불완전하며, 피부암으로 인한 사망은 드물기 때문에 피부암의 발생률은 알 수 없다. 예방적인 방법은 개인보호구(장갑, 구두 등), 기계공학적 통제, 노동자 교육, 피부에 노출되는 것을 피하기 위해 주어진 일을 맡는 노동자들의 교대와 같은 관리적인 통제가 있다. 이러한 방법들은 화학적 화상, 알러지성 접촉성 피부염과 같은 피부염, 진동장애, 직업관련성 질환(예를 들면, 건선, 단순태선, 백반)을 예방하는데 도움이 된다. 만성 자극성 접촉성 피부염은 아직 잘 이해하고 있지 못하여 현재 예방하는 방법은 아직 만족스럽지 못하다.
