Stability Analysis of Multiple Thermal Energy Storage Caverns Using a Coupled Thermal-Mechanical Model (열-역학적 연계해석 모델을 이용한 다중 열저장공동 안정성 분석)

  • Cavern Thermal Energy Storage system stores thermal energy in caverns to recover industrial waste heat or avoid the sporadic characteristics of renewable-energy resources, and its advantages include high injection-and-extraction powers and the flexibility in selecting a storage medium. In the present study, the structural stability of rock mass pillar between these silo-type storage caverns was assessed using a coupled thermal-mechanical model in $FLAC^{3D}$. The results of numerical simulations showed that thermal stresses due to long-term storage depended on pillar width and had significant effect on the pillar stability. A sensitivity analysis of main factors indicated that the influence on the pillar stability increased in the order cavern depth < pillar width < in situ condition. It was suggested that two identical caverns should be separated by at least one diameter of the cavern and small-diameter shaft neighboring the cavern should be separated by more than half of the cavern diameter. Meanwhile, when the line of centers of two caverns was parallel to the direction of maximum horizontal principal stress, the shielding effect of the caverns could minimize an adverse effect caused by a large horizontal stress.

Thermodynamic Properties and Self Diffusions from Rheological Parameters of Eyring-Halsey Model (Eyring-Halsey 모델의 유동파라메타로부터 열역학 성질과 자체 확산)

  • The stress relaxation of poly(methyl acrylate)-poly(acrylonitrile) copolymer samples were carried out in air and distilled water at various temperatures using the tensile tester with the solvent chamber. The rheological parameters were obtained by applying the experimental stress relaxation curves to the theoretical equation of the Eyring-Halsey non-Newtonian model. The self diffusion, hole volume, viscosities, and thermodynamic parameters of copolymer samples were calculated from rheological parameters and crystallite size in order to study of flow segments in amorphous region. It was observed that the rheological parameters of these copolymer samples are directly related to the self diffusion, hole volume, viscosities, and thermodynamic parameters of flow segments.

  • 본 연구에서는 석영을 기판으로 사용하여 텅스텐 실리사이드 게이트를 고온에서 결정화시키고, 이\ulcorner 발생되는 crack 에 대한 생성원인을 조사하였다. 증착된 텅스텐실리사이드의 실리콘 조성과 실리콘 완층충의 두께가 증가함에 따라 열응력이 감소하는 경향이 관찰되었으며, 과잉의 실리콘 조성을 가진 실리사이드를 열처리한 경우에는 crack에 대한 저항이 증가함을 알 수 있었다. 그러나 실리콘 완충층을 사용한 경우는 두께가 증가함에 따라 열응력이 감소하는 경향이 있으나, crack이 보다 쉽게 발생되는 결과를 얻었다. 이는 실리사이드 반응에 의하여 거칠어진 계면에 응력이 집중되어 crack생성을 쉽게하는 것으로 여겨진다. 결과적으로 석영과 텅스텐실리사이드의 열\ulcorner창계수차이에 의하여 생성되는 열응력이 crack생성의 주원인으로 작용하고, 실리콘 완층층을 사용한 구조하에서는 계면에서 일어나는 실리사이드반응이 crack생성에 큰 영향을 미치는 것으로 생각된다.

Probabilistic Estimation of Thermal Fatigue Performance of Three-Way Catalyst Substrate (삼원 촉매 담체의 확률론적 열피로 성능 평가)

  • A three-way catalyst substrate for domestic passenger car satisfies the design criteria for exhaust gas exchange and pressure drop but does not have satisfactory thermal fatigue performance. Prefracture faults in this three-way catalyst substrate has often been discovered in vehicle repair or vehicle inspection facilities. This paper presents a thermal fatigue performance estimation method for a three-way catalyst substrate using a probabilistic strength reduction factor model. This method is superior to the thermal fatigue performance estimation method for a three-way catalyst substrate that uses a deterministic strength model.

  • In this study, a program for evaluation of heat transfer and thermal stress of mass concrete is developed and verified by 2-experiments (internally and externally restricted). Furthermore, the result of the program is compared with those of ADINA-T and ADINA. As a result of the comparison, the proposed method produces comparable results with those from the popular programs (ADIIVA-T and ADINA) and shows the usefulness of the developed program for the evaluation of thermal stresses of mass concrete in both internally and externally restricted structures.

  • This study investigates the result of thermal stress analysis on burning plate by classes at outdoor gas boiler. In the analysis results at the steady state, the maximum stress and deformations are 666,8MPa at A type and 0.20476mm at B type respectively. The deformation becomes larger as the field goes on from the center to the outside at burning plate. As there are 8 types in the order of maximum stress and deformation, F and C type have safest among 8 types respectively. Therefore, F type becomes most excellent on strength and safety among 8 types. By using the analysis result of burning plate model at gas boiler, it is possible to design the model applied practically at the safe component parameters of boiler system.

A Convergent Investigation on Structural Analysis with Thermal Stress at the Shape of Brake Disk for Racing Car (경주용 자동차 브레이크 디스크 형상에서의 열 응력 및 구조 해석에 관한 융합 연구)

  • In this study, the model A with the existing shape used at racing car and the model B with light weight were designed. The structural analysis with thermal deformation and stress were carried out. Model A shows that the maximum temperature is lower than model B. The cooling performance due to the shape of the disk without any other cooling conditions can be shown to be better for model A. Model A was seen to be superior in durability as the thermal stress reduced by almost twice as much as model B. The part where the greatest stress occurred appeared to be the hole jointed with the hub regardless of its shape. The analysis results at this study are seen to be useful at designing the shape of the actual vehicle brake disc. The analysis results obtained in this study can be applied at grasping the strength of the brake disk for racing car practically. By utilizing the analysis result of the brake disk for racing car, this study is seen as the convergence study that the aesthetic design and analysis are applied.

The Analysis of Cracks in PSC Girder Using High Flowing Concrete (고유동 콘크리트를 사용한 PSC 거더 균열 분석)

  • Recently, mass concrete with high flowability are widely used to improve the quality and constructability in the longer span construction of prestressed concrete bridges, but it may induce nonstructural cracks due to the hydration heat and autogenous shrinkage etc. The stresses in concrete were evaluated by various experiments and numerical analysis. The tensile stress in mass concrete was increased in connection with the accumulation of hydration heat. Moreover, large amount of autogenous shrinkage from powder type admixture could add the tensile stress to mass concrete near anchorage zone. The tensile stresses in anchorage zone by heat and autogenous shrinkage exceeded the tensile strength of early stage of concrete, and small amounts of stress increasement were shown in other parts of PSC girder.

Thermo-Elastic Analysis, 3-Dimensional Stress Analysis and Design of Carbon/Carbon Brake Disk (탄소/탄소 브레이크 디스크의 열탄성 해석과 3차원 응력해석 및 설계)

  • This paper presents the thermo-elastic analysis for searching the behavior of carbon/carbon brake system during the braking period and the 3-D stress analysis to find the shape of the brake disk which is safe to the failure. The mechanical properties of the carbon/carbon brake disk were measured for both in-plane and out of plane directions. The mechanical properties were used as the input of the thermo-elastic analysis and 3-dimensional stress analysis for the brake disk. The gap between rotor clip and clip retainer is an important parameter in the loading transfer mechanism of the rotor disk. The change of gap was considered both the mechanical deformation and thermal deformation. Because the rotor clip and clip retainers were not contacted, they were excluded from the analysis model. Rotor disk was modeled by using the cyclic symmetry condition. The contact problems between rotor clip and key drum as well as between rotor disk and rotor were considered. From the results of the 3-D stress analysis, the stress concentration at the key hole of the brake disk was confirmed. The stress distributions were studied thor the variation of the rotation angle of the contact surface and the radius of curvature at the key hole part.
