  • In this research, various cases of centrifugal impeller for HVAC system have been numerically analyzed by changing center angle of blades and length of outlet. Commercial CFD code, FLUENT has been used to calculate velocity, pressure, turbulence intensity, and temperature that can lead numerous results. Regardless of warming up, when the heater power level was increased, the temperature inside surrounding impeller also increased due to flowing outer air, but the temperature decreased because of flowing inner air. Consequently, the variation of central angle of blades and length of outlet led difference of velocity and flow rate which can reduce $CO_2$ in gas emission.

  • SiC whiskers were synthesized from rice hulls and activated carbon by carbothermal reduction method. The effects of gases and various additives were studied. Carbothermal reduction to produce SiC whiskers was conducted at $1450^{\circ}C$ and the synthesized SiC whiskers were examined using SEM and XRD. The length of whiskers is increased with the increases of $H_2$concentration and total gas flows. The most favorable form of SiC whiskers couble be obtained in the following experimental conditins : Ar : $H_2$=300:45(ml/min), $SiO_2$(inrice hulls): $CaF_2$=1:0.5:0.5(mole ratio) and the addition of Ni flakes ($1{\times}1$mm).

  • As the value of environment is increasing, the water quality has been a matter of interest to the nation and people. Research on water quality has been widely studied, but focused on geographical characteristic and river characteristics like inflow, outflow, quantity and speed of water. In this paper, two approaches to measure the similarity of sampling sites by using water quality data are discussed and compared with two-years empirical data of Yongdam-Dam. The existing method has calculated their similarities with principal component scores. The proposed approach in this paper use correlation matrix of water quality related variables and MDS for measuring the similarity, which is shown to be better in the sense of being clustering which is identical to geographical clustering since it can consider the time series pattern of water quality.

  • The performance of various type plate exchangers with different chevron angle, dimple size and arrangement was analysed by using Ansys v13.0. Heat transfer performance, pressure drop and flow patten of plate heat exchanger were investigated according to mass flow ratio investigated and compared. As a result, the $60^{\circ}$-chevron type plate heat exchanger showed the highest heat transfer performance but pressure drop was relatively high. The efficiency of $45^{\circ}$-chevron type plate heat exchanger showed the best performance in considering of heat transfer performance and pressure drop simultaneously. Among dimple type plate heat exchangers, the highest heat transfer performance was shown in a dim_zigzag type plate heat exchanger but pressure drop was very high. Besides, the dim_upsize plate heat exchanger showed very low pressure drop.

  • The characteristics of arc pressure, current density and heat flux distribution are important factors in understanding physical arc phenomena, which will have a marked effect on the penetration, size and shape of a weld in TIG welding. The purpose of this study is to find out the effect of the heat flux on the melting efficiency and penetration shape in TIG welding using the results of the previous investigators. The conclusions obtained permit to draw a proper method which derived the heat flux distributions by arc pressure distribution measurements, but previous researchers calculated heat flux and current distribution with the heat intensity measurements by the calorimetry. Heat flux of Ar gas arc was concentrated at the central part and distributed low from the arc axis to the radial direction, that of He mixing arc was lower than that of Ar gas, and it was wide distributed to radial direction. That showed a similar characteristic with the Nestor's by calorimetry calculated values. Throughout heat flux drawn in this study was discussed melting efficiency and penetration shape on Ar gas and He mixing gas arc.

  • A one-dimensional eddy diffusion model and a mixed-layer model are developed and applied to simulate the vertical temperature profiles in lakes. Also the running results of each method are compared and analyzed. In an eddy diffusion model, molecular diffusivity is neglected and eddy diffusivity which does not need lake-specific fitting parameter and constant lake's level are applied. The heat exchanges at the water surface and the bottom are formulated by the energy balance and zero energy gradient, respectively. In a mixed-layer model, two layers approach which has a constant thickness is adopted. Application of these models which use explicit finite difference an Runge-Kutta methods respectively demonstrates that the models efficiently simulate water temperatures.

  • This paper is related to a design of high pressure sub-scale combustor with regenerative reeling. As a previous step for the evaluation of thermal heat flux, a similar combustor with cooling water was manufactured. Design conditions with high combustion efficiency and cooling performance were verified through the hot firing tests of the water-cooled high pressure combustor. Finally the regeneratively cooled high pressure combustor has been designed based on these data. After manufacturing it, its practical utility will be tested and verified through hot firing tests.

  • The cooling mechanism for a regenerative cooling liquid rocket engine of 10tf-thrust using kerosene as a fuel was studied from the viewpoint of curtain cooling. Based on the concept of a highly-stratified gas flow in the combustion chamber, the cross section of the combustion chamber was spilt into 2 independent parts, core and exterior part. Additional fuel is injected into the exterior section and gas temperature can be reduced in the exterior section. Consequently, the heat flux into the coolant and wall temperature are reduced and the thermal stability of a liquid rocket engine could be improved.

  • An experimental investigation was conducted to figure out the effects of the inlet air temperature on the combustion efficiency using the fuel grains which were highly loaded with boron carbide. The results showed that the normalized combustion efficiency increased with the inlet air temperature, apparently the result of enhanced combustion of the boron particles. Even though the combustion efficiency is increased, the overall efficiency through the semi-empirical method, is decreased with the increasing inlet air temperature. Brayton cycle analysis has been performed using the heat input parameter and combustor Mach number, those two parameters are important role for the performance and similar trends are shown at the experimental results.

  • One of the cold start problems of a FCV is the freezing of the water in the water tank when a FCV is not in operation and the surrounding temperature drops below $0^{\circ}C$. The ice in the tank should be melted as quickly as possible for a satisfactory operation of fuel cell vehicles. In this study, the melting process for the constant heat fluxes of the plate heaters was numerically calculated in the 2-D model of the tank and plate heaters. The enthalpy method and FVM code was used for this analysis. The changes of the temperature with heat fluxes and the heat transfer area could be investigated. The energy balance error was found to increase with the heat flux. From this numerical analysis, the proper heat flux value and some important design factors relating local overheating and pressurization of the water tank could be examined.
