  • MEMS based solid propellant thruster researched for the purpose of an academic research will be verified at space environment through CubeSat program. For this, the temperature of the MEMS thruster should be within allowable operating temperature range by proper thermal control to prevent the ignition failure caused by ignition time delay and to guarantee the structural safety of the MEMS thruster in the low temperature. In this study, we proposed an effective thermal control strategy, that is to use micro-igniter as a heater and temperature sensor for active thermal control instead of using additional heater. The effectiveness of the strategy has been verified through on-orbit thermal analysis of CubeSats with MEMS thruster.

  • The fully thermally coupled distillation columns(FTCDC) are thermodynamically more efficient than conventional columns. Despite these advantages, industry has been reluctant to use FTCDC. This can be largely attributed to the lack of established design procedures and column operability. In this study, the $3{\times}3$control structure was applied to control the FTCDC which was simulated using Aspen HYSYS on the possible control structure of 4 kinds and control performance was investigated. As the result of dynamic simulations, one of the proposed structures had better controllability of product compositions and control efficiency was evaluated.

  • Extractive distillation system can be used when the components to be separated have close boiling points or form azeotropes. Extractive distillation is one of the most important and widely used separation methods in chemical process industry. The main disadvantage of the distillation is its high-energy requirements. Thermally coupled distillation system (TCDS) can provide significant savings in energy consumption and capital cost over the operation of sequences based on conventional distillation column. Despite such advantages of the thermally coupled distillation system, the process is not widely used in industry because control and operation of the column are difficult. In this study, we propose several control schemes for thermally coupled distillation system to overcome the difficulties and make the column stable when the process is confronted with feed disturbances. Profile position control scheme shows best control performance among the proposed control schemes.

  • This paper is about the research to maintain and enhance the flow of data of the wireless traffic control. Various types of burst traffic that were found at TCP window flow control have been removed or mitigated using the two-way traffic control. Currently, TCP ACK Compression problem appears during the transmission of the wireless communication control channel because the queues are mostly located at the end system. Therefore, in this paper, the periodic bursty characterist of the source IP queue wilt be analyzed to predict the maximum value of queues. And then the prediction tool will be applied to wireless communication traffic control to handle symmetric traffic as to increase the throughput and improve the performance.

  • LEO satellites have many heaters for thermal control, such as bus module heaters, payload heaters and battery internal heaters. Some of these heaters are controlled by thermisters, and others can be controlled by flight software. These heaters are divided into various types of group according to the location, telemetry variables, flight software logic, power distribution, etc. Thus, it is difficult to find out which heaters are included in a certain group and modify heater control logic for a new/other software developers. This document describes about the general/special control logic for satellite heaters and groups/arrays for heaters.

  • Performance of TCP/IP is studied on the wireless network using flow control and congestion control mechanism based on transmission rate. We discuss the elimination or the reduction of various phenomena of burst by flow controlling on transmission rate and verify that there are TCP ACK compression promblems on the queue by burst reaction while executing transmission rate controlled channels. Analyzing periodic burst reaction on the queue of source IP, the maximum value of queue is expected, which represents the applible expectation of throughput reduce and shows the improvement of performance by the reduce of throughput due to hi-directional traffic.

  • Cogeneration means the highly energy-efficient generation system that improves energy ratio by generating electricity and heat, and it really affects the improvement of overall efficiency by using industrial process, district heating, and hot-water supply etc. after the energy produced through supplying power to system collects. This thesis indicates the screen of cogeneration flow in LabVIEW and the heat power control system that can be in long-distance control of a district energy system using TCP/IP. We simulated on four computers so that the heat power control system proves long-distance control possible.

  • The thermal control device using solid-liquid phase change material (PCM) is designed, manufactured, and experimented in thermal environment chamber. The n-Hexadecane is selected as a PCM and its melting point is placed within the component working temperature range. The PCM container is made of Al6061 and has the thermal spreading fins inside. To simulate the working condition for on-orbit satellite the heat pipes are used to connect the heater and radiator and the PCM thermal control device (PCMTD) is installed at the middle portion of heat pipes. The thermal buffer mass (TBM), which is same configuration and volume with PCMTD, is also manufactured to compare the thermal control performance. As a result, the PCMTD is not only more efficient than TBM in their temperature control features but both mass and power of compensation heater are reduced.

  • The Flight Model (FM) of a high-resolution electro-optical camera (EOS-C Ver.3.0), the mission payload of an Earth observation satellite, was successfully developed by Satrec Initiative. We designed it to give improved thermal representatives compared with the Structural-Thermal Model (STM) by optimizing the thermal characteristics based on the STM thermal vacuum test results. We developed the FM and verified the workmanship by performing the acceptance level thermal vacuum test. We also conducted the verification of its Thermal Mathematical Model (TMM) by the thermal balance test. As the result, it was confirmed that TMM faithfully represents the thermal characteristics of the EOS-C Ver.3.0 FM.
