  • The present study experimentally investigated the effect of refrigeration oil on the condensation heat transfer for R-407C and R-22 in a microfin tube with a U-bend. POE oil ($74.1\;\textrm{mm}^2/s,\;40^{\circ}C$,) and mineral oil $62.5\;\textrm{mm}^2/s,\;40^{\circ}C$,) were used for R-407C and R-22 respectively Experimental parameters were an oil concentration from 0 to 5%, a mass flux from 100 to $400kg/m^{2}s sand an inlet quality from 0.5 to 0.9. The enhancement factors for both R-22 and R-407C refrigerants at the first straight section decreased continuously as the oil concentration increased. They decreased rapidly as the mass flux decreased and the inlet quality increased. The heat transfer coefficients in the U-bend showed the maximum at the $90^{\circ}$/TEX> position. The heat transfer coefficients at the second straight section within the dimensionless length of 48 were larger by a maximum of 33% than the average heat transfer coefficient at the first straight section.

  • This study investigated the effects of 27.12 MHz radio frequency (RF) heating on heat transfer phenomena during the thawing process of frozen food. To determine the velocity of the RF thawing machine, samples were frozen at $-80^{\circ}C$ and subjected to different power treatments. The phase change times (-5 to $0^{\circ}C$) of frozen radish were 30, 26, 13, and 8 min; those of pork sirloin were 38, 25, 11, and 5 min; those of rump were 23, 17, 11, and 6 min; those of chicken breast were 42, 29, 13, and 9 min; and those of tuna were 25, 23, 10, and 5 min at 50, 100, 200, and 400 W, respectively. The heating limit temperatures of the radish, pork sirloin, rump, chicken breast, and tuna samples were 19.5, 9.2, 21.8, 8.8, and $16.8^{\circ}C$ at 50 W; 23.5, 15.5, 27.3, 12.3, and $19^{\circ}C$ at 100 W; 42, 26.9, 45.7, 22.1, and $39.4^{\circ}C$ at 200 W; and 48.5, 54.7, 63.6, 57.3, and $44.9^{\circ}C$ at 400 W. These results suggest that high-power RF improves thawing velocity and heating limit temperatures, and that an improvement on the operation of the RF thawing machine, according to food temperatures, is needed.

  • Electric energy consumption is always followed by the introduction of diversity scale-up and state-of-the-art equipments in logistic centers. In order to analyze the status and the characteristic of the electric energy consumption quantitatively, and also to evaluate the efficiency of the electric energy, this research aims to develop an estimation model of standard electric energy consumption for logistic centers. The proposed model applies the thermodynamics theory so as to effectively reflect the peculiarity that the temperature in the logistic center influences the electric energy consumption. And the model consists of the energy consumed by the refrigerator, which can be subdivided into the heat conducted through the wall, the heat convected by the open doors and the heat lost into the goods, and the electric consumption of the machinery equipments. The model also includes a variety of explanatory variables to support an operator of logistics centers in evaluating the efficiency of energy consumption and establishing improvement strategies for energy efficiency. Application of the model developed in this study is discussed with observed data on energy consumption of a logistics center.
