Convective Heat Transfer to Water near the Critical Region in Horizontal Rectangular Ducts (수평 직사각 덕트 내 임계점 부근 물의 대류열전달 특성)

  • Fluid flow and heat transfer in horizontal ducts are strongly coupled with large changes in thermodynamic and transport properties near the critical region as well as the gravity force. Numerical analysis has been carried out to investigate convective heat transfer in horizontal rectangular ducts for water near the thermodynamic critical point. Convective heat transfer characteristics, including velocity, temperature, and the properties as well as local heat transfer coefficients along the ducts are compared with the effect of proximity on the critical point. When there is flow acceleration because of a density decrease, convective heat transfer characteristics in the ducts show transition behavior between liquid-like and gas-like phases. There is a large variation in the local heat transfer coefficient distributions at the top, side, and bottom surfaces, and close to the pseudocritical temperature, a peak in the heat transfer coefficient distribution resulting from improved turbulent transport is observed. The Nusselt number distribution depends on pressure and duct aspect ratio, while the Nusselt number peak rapidly increases as the pressure approaches the critical pressure. The predicted Nusselt number is also compared with other heat transfer correlations.

  • 실제 규모 ISO 9705 표준 화재실에서 과환기(over-ventilated) 및 환기부족(under-ventilated) 화재에 대한 열 및 화학적 특성에 관한 실험이 수행되었다. 또한 FDS(Fire Dynamic Simulator)를 이용하여 수치적 예측성능에 대한 평가와 환기부족화재에서 건물 내부의 다차원 화재현상에 대한 해석이 이루어졌다. 과환기 및 환기부족화재의 특성은 연소효율, 총괄 당량비 뿐만 아니라 고온 상층부의 온도분포, 연소 생성물의 농도에 의해 명확하게 구분되었다. 실험결과와의 비교를 통해 과환기 및 환기부족화재에서 FDS는 공간내부의 온도, 열유속 및 다양한 화학종의 분포를 정량적으로 잘 예측함을 확인하였다. 과환기화재와 비교할 때, 환기부족화재에서 내부유동은 반대방향의 다차원 재순환 유동구조를 갖고 있음을 발견하였다. 동시에 공간내부의 $O_2$ 및 CO의 분포 역시 다차원 구조를 갖기 때문에 기존화재연구에서 측정되는 고온 상층부의 열 및 화학적 특성은 환기부족화재를 이해하는데 많은 한계가 있음을 확인하였다.

  • 본 연구에서는 1차원 이송-분산 과정을 연구하고 전단류 흐름 및 분산거동에 있어 Taylor 이론의 핵심이라 할 수 있는 '종방향 이송과 횡방향 확산의 균형'을 기본 개념으로 하여, 이송과 확산을 분리하여 이 두 과정이 순차적으로 발생한다는 가정에 의거한 순차혼합모형을 제시하였다. 본 모형에서는 가상의 하천을 여러 개의 행과 종방향 거리를 길이가 일정한 구획으로 나누어 연속적인 분산과정을 이산적인 형태로 나타낼 수 있게 하고, 횡방향 유속분포에 따라 각 행에 각기 다른 유속을 할당한다. 오염물질은 하폭방향 선오염원으로 원점에 순간주입되며, 주어진 혼합시간 $t_m$ 동안 각 행의 오염물질들이 각자에 할당된 유속을 따라 진행하고 진행이 끝난 후 횡방향 확산이 순간적으로 이루어진다. 횡방향 확산은 횡방향으로 완전하게 일어남을 가정하여, 횡방향 확산이 끝나면 각 열에서의 농도 평균값이 할당된다. 이러한 혼합시간 $t_m$ 동안의 순차적인 이송-확산 과정이 반복되면서 오염물질의 분산이 일어나며, 농도 분포 그래프를 그릴 수 있게 된다. 순차혼합모형을 가상의 직선하천에 적용하여 종분산계수를 유도하였는데, 본 연구에서 유도된 종분산계순식은 Fischer.가 제안한 식과 유사한 형태로 나타남을 알 수 있었다. 본 모형에서 계산된 농도분포 곡선을 해석해와 비교한 결과,두 곡선이 적절히 일치함을 확인할 수 있었으며 해석해와의 비교를 통해 종분산계수 K가 혼합시간 $t_m$과 선형관계임을 확인할 수 있었다. 수심대하폭비에 따라 각기 다른 유속분포에 적용하여 종분산계수 K가 유속편차강도의 제곱에 비례관계에 있음이 밝힐 수 있었다. 수압은 $4.69kg/cm^2$으로 나타났다. 밸브 개폐도가 $100\%$일 때가 밸브를 $60\%$$80\%$ 개폐시켰을 때보다 $0.3kg/cm^2,\;0.29kg/cm^2$ 낮게 나타나 밸브를 전체 개방 했을 때 관로내의 수압이 상수설계기준에 적합한 수압을 유지함을 알 수 있다. 상수관로 설계 기준에서는 관로내 수압을 $1.5\~4.0kg/cm^2$으로 나타내고 있는데 $6kg/cm^2$보다 과수압을 나타내는 경우가 $100\%$로 밸브를 개방하였을 때보다 $60\%,\;80\%$ 개방하였을 때가 더 빈번히 발생하고 있으므로 대상지역의 밸브 개폐는 $100\%$ 개방하는 것이 선계기준에 적합한 것으로 나타났다. 밸브 개폐에 따른 수압 변화를 모의한 결과 밸브 개폐도를 적절히 유지하여 필요수량의 확보 및 누수방지대책에 활용할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.8R(mm)(r^2=0.84)$로 지수적으로 증가하는 경향을 나타내었다. 유거수량은 토성별로 양토를 1.0으로 기준할 때 사양토가 0.86으로 가장 작았고, 식양토 1.09, 식토 1.15로 평가되어 침투수에 비해 토성별 차이가 크게 나타났다. 이는 토성이 세립질일 수록 유거수의 저항이 작기 때문으로 생각된다. 경사에 따라서는 경사도가 증가할수록 증가하였으며 $10\% 경사일 때를 기준으로 $Ro(mm)=Ro_{10}{\times}0.797{\times}e^{-0.021s(\%)}$

  • This thesis was conducted a numerical analysis on the radiant heat performance according to factors of design of heat sink for cooling of the automotive LED head lamp. The heat sinks were designed with 5 different types to fit the limited internal space by formula based on an existing product (Type 1). Designed heat sinks of five types were analyzed by ANSYS CFD V12.1, and the analysis results were compared with the existing type. The results of simulation were analyzed temperature distribution and average temperature, air flow characteristic, heat flux etc. This thesis was researched on the correlation of the cooling performance according to the heat sink structure and the fin shape. Through numerical analysis, could be confirmed heat sink Type 2 as the best results.

A Study of Mixed Convection on a Flat Plate with an Unheated Starting Length (비가열부가 있는 평판에서의 혼합대류에 관한 연구)

  • The buoyancy effects on mixed convection heat transfer over a flat plate surface with unheated starting length is reported. The governing equations are solved by a finite difference method using Patankar scheme and the solution was numerically obtained for various mixed convection parametr $Gr_{x}/Re_{x}^3$, and Prandtl number of 0.7 Local heat flux was measured by using Schilieren Interferometer. The local heat transfer results show that the presence of the unheated starting length can significantly accentuate the effects of buoyancy. The degree of accentuation of the buoyancy effects is strongly influenced by the magnitude of $Gr_{x}/Re_{x}^3$. When the parameter is larger than the order of $10^{-3}$, the contribution of natural convection to the heat transfer coefficients increased significantly due to the unheated starting length. In contrast, when $Gr_{x}/Re_{x}^3$ is smaller then about $10^{-5}$ , the buoyancy contribution is essentially unaffected by the unheated starting length. The shape of the velocity profile is also found to be highly responsive to the interaction between the buoyancy and the starting length.

  • In this study the flow characteristics of smoke and heat on a bank type platform of the underground subway station are studied numerically by considering two different emergency operation modes. Effects of the natural flow through the tunnel and the stair ways are considered in the numerical simulations by using the measured velocities presented in Part I as the boundary condition. Distributions of heat, smoke, visible range and toxic gas on the platform are analysed for different smoke extraction flowrates corresponding to the two different emergency operation modes. The numerical results show that the extraction flowrate affects the smoke control performance significantly by improving the smoke removal performance as the extraction flowrate is increased.

  • A circulation water channel with observational section of $4m{\times}2.4m{\times}1m(length{\times}breadth{\times}depth)$ and the maximum channel flow speed of 2 m/sec was designed for model tests of fishing gears. It consists of 6 sections evenly divided for easy connection. Two observational acryl windows of $1.2m{\times}1.5m$ and 2cm thick are provided. Steel deflection plates, equally spaced in 20-40cm, are fixed at corners of the channel to reduce the loss of water pressure head through the channel. The flow in the channel is controlled by D.C. motor control system with 50 H.P. driving propeller system. A series of model testing capabilities for fishing gear have been examined and the results are as follows. 1) The speed of water flow was in the range from zero to 2.3 m/sec. 2) The difference between the velocity of channel flow along the center line and that along both sides in the channel was less than 0.2 m/sec.

  • The study on the heat exchanger with catalytic combustion was performed as the development of the catalytic combustion applications. This study tried to achieve the both goals-the mixture preheating and the heat transfer to working fluid simultaneously by using the steady state catalytic combustion. The combustion characteristics were investigated with the quantitative, qualitative experimental variants of the mixture. In addition, the temperature distribution of catalytic layer was investigated to investigate the correlation between the combustion characteristics and the heat balance of the catalytic layer. As a result, the steady state reaction within the appropriate range of temperature is the critical factor in catalytic applications. To get this, the sensible control of both the mixture flow and the heat balance of catalytic layer were required.

  • In this paper, heat transfer changes due to the shock/boundary layer interaction were investigated on surfaces where secondary jet are injected. With an infra-red thermography, surface temperature was measured and the measured data was used to obtain the convective heat transfer. Heat transfer is enhanced with increment of momentum ratio. And normal injection case has a higher heat transfer value than that of 15 degrees inclined injection case. Secondary injection momentum ratio and injection angle affect the surface heat transfer distribution.

  • Thermal behavior of spacecraft propulsion system utilizing monopropellant hydrazine ($N_2$$H_4$) is addressed in this paper. Thermal control performance to prevent propellant freezing in spacecraft-operational orbit was test-verified under simulated on-orbit environment. The on-orbit environment was thermally achieved in space-simulation chamber and by the absorbed-heat flux method that implements an artificial heating through to the spacecraft bus panels enclosing the propulsion system. Test results obtained in terms of temperature history of propulsion components are presented and reduced into duty cycles of the avionics heaters which are dedicated to thermal control of those components. The duty cycles are subsequently converted into the electrical power required in the operational orbit. Additionally, cyclic temperature of each component, which was made under thermal-balanced condition of spacecraft, is compared to the acceptable design range and justified from the viewpoint of system verification.
