Measurement and Analysis of Instantaneous Surface Temperature and Unsteady Heat Flux at Combustion Chamber of DOHC Gasoline Engine ; Cylinder Linder (DOHC 가솔린기관의 연소실 벽표면순간온도 및 비정상 열유속 측정 및 해석(제3보 : 실린더 라이너에 관한 연구))

  • Instantaneous temperature probes were manufactured by pressing method. By using these probes, the instantaneous surface temperature and unsteady heat flux in the cylinder liner of DOHC engine were measured. The main results are as follows; ⅰ) the instantaneous surface temperature of cylinder liner are affected by the contact of piston ring as well as burning gas. ⅱ) the wall temperature of the siamese portion is much higher than other parts. ⅲ) it was shown that the rising trend of heat flux by burning gas are nearly limited to the 1/2-stroke distance from the top of cylinder liner.

Development of 2-ton thrust-level sub-scale calorimeter (추력 2톤급 축소형 칼로리미터 개발)

  • A calorimeter of 2-ton thrust level rocket engine chamber has been developed to measure the wall heat flux. The liner of the chamber is made of copper-chromium alloy to maximize the heat transfer performance and structural strength. 1-D design code based on empirical correlations has been used for the prediction of the global thermal characteristics while 3-D CFD has been applied for the verification of local cooling performance. The predicted average wall heat flux at the throat is 43 $MW/m^{2}$ for the combustion chamber pressure of 53 bar. The chamber structure is confirmed to be safe at the pressure of 150 bar through 2-D stress analysis and measurement of the strain of the test species. Finally, the test of pressurizing the calorimeter chamber has been performed with water at the pressure of 150 bar in room temperature environment. No thermal damage has been detected after the hot-fire test in the test nozzle of same cooling performance with the developed calorimeter though the measured throat heat flux is higher than the design value by 10%.

  • Heat Transfer with periodic fluctuation of fluid temperature caused by oscillatory flow or compression expansion can be out of phase with balk fluid-wall temperature difference. Newton's law of convection is inadequate to describe this phenomenon. In order to solve this problem the concept of the complex Nusselt number has been introduced by severla researchers. The complex Nusselt number expresses out of phase excellently while the first harmonic is dominant in the variations of both fluid-wall temperature difference and heat flux. However, in the case of oscillatory flow with non-linear wall temperature distribution, the complex Nusselt number is not appropriate to predict the heat transfer phenomena since the higher order harmonic components appear in periodic temperature variation. Analytic solutions to the heat transfer with an sinusoidal well temperature distribution were obtained to investagate the effect of non-linear wall temperature distribution. A new formula considering the thermal boundary layer was suggested based on the solutions. A comparison was also made with the complex Nusselt number. It was verified that the new formula describes well the heat transfer of oscillating flow even if the first harmonic component is not dominant in the fluid-wall temperature difference.

  • The study on the heat exchanger with catalytic combustion was performed as the development of the catalytic combustion applications. This study tried to achieve the both goals-the mixture preheating and the heat transfer to working fluid simultaneously by using the steady state catalytic combustion. The combustion characteristics were investigated with the quantitative, qualitative experimental variants of the mixture. In addition, the temperature distribution of catalytic layer was investigated to investigate the correlation between the combustion characteristics and the heat balance of the catalytic layer. As a result, the steady state reaction within the appropriate range of temperature is the critical factor in catalytic applications. To get this, the sensible control of both the mixture flow and the heat balance of catalytic layer were required.

  • In this paper, the conjugated heat transfer anslysis was performed about an electric heater used in a combustion test equipment of a combustor engine to figure out a physical phenomenon that heater coil was periodically cut during heating test. The result of analysis is that the temperature of coil at coil inlet region was increased locally because the velocity of air was slow in that region. The coil of heater was moved to 25mm downstream so that the structure stability of coil was assured by the decrease of the coil temperature due to increase of an air velocity.

  • 증발기의 형태에 따라 수치적 해석을 진행하면서 최적의 효율을 나타낼 수 있는 증발기를 설계하는 것이 중요하다. 증발기의 수치적 해석은 EES 프로그램을 이용하여 진행되었으며, 계산의 검증은 자사의 제품의 성능과 비교하면서 검증하였다. 증발기의 수치적 해석의 구성은 지배방정식과 연속방정식을 이용하여, 냉매의 총괄열전달계수, 관내외벽의 열전도율, 공기의 총괄열전달계수를 이용하여 총괄열전달계수를 계산하였으며, 총괄열전달계수를 이용하여 증발기의 열량을 계산하였다. 증발기의 수치적 해석과 자사 제품 5개의 제품과 비교하였고, 평균적으로 약 10%의 오차율을 보였다. 신뢰성이 확보된 계산식을 이용하여 Fin의 간격, 단위 질량유량, 열 교환 코일 길이, 풍량의 조건을 각각 변동시켜 증발기 열량 비교를 하며 경향성을 고찰하였다. Fin의 간격을 1mm에서 20mm으로 0.5mm 간격으로 변화 시켰을 경우, 핀 간격이 좁으면 공기 유속이 빨라져 열 교환 효율이 낮아지며, 반대로 넓어지면 냉매 유량에 비해 공기 유량이 많기 때문에 열 교환 효율이 낮아진다. 열 교환 코일 길이를 500mm에서 2400mm으로 50mm 간격으로 변화 시켰을 경우, 열 교환 코일 길이가 길어질수록 배관의 마찰력과 냉매의 온도 상승으로 인하여 공기 온도와의 온도 차이가 줄어들어 열 교환 효율은 낮아진다. 풍량을 20cmm에서 400cmm으로 10cmm 간격으로 변화 시켰을 경우, 일정 풍량 이상 올라가면 공기 유속이 빨라져서 열량이 낮아지는 경향을 보인다. 질량유량을 3g/sec에서 174g/sec으로 4.5g/sec 간격으로 변화 시켰을 경우, 질량 유량에 따라 비례적으로 열량이 높아지는 경향을 보이다가 일정 질량 유량 이상에서는 공기 풍량에 비해 냉매 유량이 많기 때문에 반비례적으로 열량이 낮아진다. 이처럼 증발기의 설계는 Fin 간격, 열 교환 코일 길이, 풍량, 질량유량 등을 복합적으로 고려하여 증발기 설계를 해야 하며, 저장고의 크기, 부하, 사용목적에 따라 최적화된 증발기를 설계하여야 한다.

  • In this study, condensation heat transfer coefficients of R-410A were obtained in flattened tubes made from round tubes with an inner diameter of 5.0 mm. The saturation temperature was $45^{\circ}C$; the heat flux, 10 kW/$m^2K$; the mass flux, 100-400 kg/$m^2s$; and the quality, 0.2-0.8. The results showed that the effect of the aspect ratio on the condensation heat transfer coefficient depended on the flow pattern. For annular flow, the heat transfer coefficient increased as the aspect ratio increased. For stratified flow, however, the reverse was true: the pressure drop increased as the aspect ratio increased. Existing correlations adequately predicted the heat transfer coefficients and pressure drops of the flattened tubes.

  • An experimental study was carried out to investigate the effect of film cooling in the thrust chamber of liquid rocket using LOx and Kerosene as propellant. The heat fluxes were obtained from the measured wall temperature to the axial direction of thrust chamber for different type of coolant, the various O/F ratio, mass flow rate and the location of the film cooling injector. A thin wall combustion chamber and nozzle were used to obtain the heat flux.
