Fabrication of Thermoelectric Module and Analysis of its Power Generation Characteristics (열전발전소자 제작 및 발전특성 분석)

  • In this study, a Bi2Te3 thermoelectric generator (TEG) was fabricated to convert unused thermal energy into useful electrical energy. For the performance test, a dedicated experiment device consisting of a heating block operating with cartridge heaters and a cooling block through which a refrigerant flows was constructed. A 3×3 array of thermocouples was mounted on the heating block and the cooling block, respectively, to derive the temperature fields and heat transfer rate onto both sides of the TEG. Experiments were conducted for a total of 9 temperature differences, obtaining V-I and P-R curves. The results of 7 variables including Seebeck coefficients that have a major effect on performance were presented as a function of the temperature difference. The feasibility of the energy recovery performance of the developed TEG was verified from the maximum power output of 7.5W and conversion efficiency of 11.3%.

Thermal Characteristics of Concrete Fabricated with Blast Furnace Slag Subjected to Thermal Cycling Condition (고로슬래그 혼입 콘크리트의 고온 조건에서의 열역학 성능)

  • The thermal characteristics of concrete fabricated with blast furnace slag were investigated in this paper. Test parameters included water-binder ratio and the content of furnace slag. Experimental program were performed to measure mechanical properties including compressive strength and split tensile strength under high-temperature thermal cycling, and to measure thermal properties including thermal conductivity and specific heat. Test results showed that the residual compressive strength of mixtures with blast furnace slag was greater than that of mixture without blast furnace slag. In addition, thermal conductivity of mixtures with blast furnace slag was greater than that of mixtures without blast furnace slag. It indicates that blast furnace slag was favorable for charging and discharging in thermal energy storage system. Test results of this study would be used to design concrete module system of thermal energy storage.

Evaluation on Performance of Hybrid Heating System with Solar Collector of Thermosyphon Tube Type (열사이폰관형 태양열집열기를 주열원으로 하는 하이브리드 난방시스템 성능 평가)

  • Recently, even though the researches on renewable energy like geothermal, wind, solar energy have been performed widely, its use-rate in total energy is still low. This study was carried out to investigate the performance of hybrid heating system, which consisted of solar collector of thermosyphon tube type and X-L pipe boiler. Especially, new type of solar collector was tried and compared with double tube type and, futhermore, performance and safety on X-L pipe boiler were investigated. As the results, efficiency of solar collector of thermosyphon tube type was higher 20.7% than that of double tube type, mainly due to its structural characteristics. It was also confirmed that temperature of special heat medium used X-L pipe boiler rose up about 20% rapidly in comparison with that of pure water.

기술현황분석 - 전기적 관성모멘트를 이용한 제동장치 성능시험기 소개

  • 철도차량용 제동장치 성능시험기는 제륜자의 마찰계수, 마모량, 열반점 등의 물리적 성질을 실차와 유사한 환경조건에서 시험을 수행함으로써 제륜자의 연구개발 및 성능평가의 목적으로 활용한다. 제륜자는 차량의 운동에너지를 열에너지로 변환한다. 성능시험기는 철도차량의 주행 운동에너지에 해당하는 관성질량으로부터 회전 운동에너지에 해당하는 관성모멘트를 조성하여야 한다. 공용 시험기에서 각종 철도차량에 대한 관성모멘트를 기계적 관성모멘트인 플라이휠로 모의하기에는 용량도 크고 구조가 복합하여 현실적으로 한계가 있다. 본 연구에서는 기계적 관성모멘트의 한계를 극복하고자 전기적 관성모멘트를 부가적으로 활용하는 기법을 제시하고 이를 적용한 시험기를 소개하고자 한다. 이러한 연구는 시험기의 외형적인 크기를 줄이고 또한 각종 철도차량에서 요구하는 정량적인 관성질량의 모의가 가능하리라고 사료된다.

Computational Studies on the Combustion and Thermal Performance of the Coal Fired Utility Boiler : Temperature and Thermal Energy Distribution (석탄화력 보일러 연소열성능 해석 : 온도와 열에너지 분포를 중심으로)

  • The pulverized coal combustion behavior in the coal fired utility boiler has been investigated with the CFD and process analysis techniques. The used commercial software were CFX and PROATES, and these were coupled each other to get more reliable boundary condition set-up, resulting in more reliable solution. For two cases which were the actual operation condition of A power plant, the calculated values from the coupled CFD and process analysis for thermal energy system were compared with the plant data, and the good agreements were obtained for Case 1 and 2. The calculated temperature distributions on the surface of heat exchangers were compared with the plant data for the steam temperatures across heat exchangers, and these explained the actual operating situation very well. The temperature deviation across the final superheater tube, which was believed to be the main cause of the frequent tube failure, were also explained very well with the calculated distributions of gas temperature and radiation on the plane of the final superheater.

  • 금속수소화물은 열에너지 및 수소저장 또는 에너지변환장치 등에 많은 응용이 기대되고 있다. 특히 금속수소화물을 이용한 최근의 에너지 변환기술은 기술적으로 뿐만 아니라 경제성면에서도 그 가능성이 한층 높아지고 있다. 본문에서는 이와 같은 열변환장치의 하나인 열펌프의 제작에 필요한 동적특성을 P-C-T, 열 및 물질전달, 흡 탈착반응속도 그리고 성능 등의 관계에서 그 발전과정을 살펴보고, 그밖에 실용화에 따른 문제성도 논의하였다.

  • 본 연구에서는 자연에너지인 태양열을 이용하여 물 펌프를 구동할 목적으로 n-pentane을 작동물질로 하는 열에너지의 동력변환 실험을 수행하고 작동물질의 온도, 압력, 힘을 측정, 계산하고 분석하였으며, n-pentane을 이용하면 양정 10m 이상은 충분히 양수할 수 있는 것으로 판단되었다. 작동물질의 엑서지를 분석하여 작동물질의 작동온도범위를 결정하여 예상사이클선도를 결정하였고, 양수 량을 고정하였을 경우 사이클횟수와 하루의 양수량, 열효율을 계산하고 분석하였다.

An Experimental Performance Comparison Study of Solar Heat and Power Hybrid Unit Module (태양 열·전기 복합생산 단위 모듈의 실험적 성능비교 연구)

  • A solar heat and power hybrid system can simultaneously generate electricity and thermal energy. In this study, several experiments were carried out with a solar heat and power hybrid unit. Then, a method to increase the photovoltaic efficiency and amount of thermal energy was suggested based on a comparative analysis. The experiment was conducted using only the photovoltaic system as a reference case, with the photovoltaic-thermal air system as a hybrid case. A numerical increase in the photovoltaic efficiency per $1^{\circ}C$ was suggested based on a comparative data analysis of these two cases. In this experiment, the surface temperature on the air hybrid system was $13.52^{\circ}C$ lower than that in the reference case, and the photovoltaic efficiency was increased by 5.09. The amount of thermal energy produced was 15.69 Wt per $1^{\circ}C$ difference between the ambient and outlet temperatures. In this paper, therefore, a photovoltaic efficiency increase of 0.34 per $1^{\circ}C$ is proposed for the air hybrid system based on the analysis of the experimental data.

A Road Surface Temperature Prediction Modeling for Road Weather Information System (도로기상정보체계 활성화를 위한 노면온도예측 모형 개발)

  • This study proposes a model for road surface temperature prediction on basis of the heat-energy balance equation between atmosphere and road surface. The overall model is consisted of two types of modules: 1) Canopy 1 is used to describe heat transfer between soil surface and atmosphere; and 2) Canopy 2 can reflect the characteristics of pavement type. Input data used in the model run is obtained from the Korea Meteorological For model validation, the observed and predicted surface temperature data are compared using data collected on MoonEui Bridge along CheongWon-Sangju Expressway, and the comparison is made on winter and other seasons separately. Analysis results show that average difference between two temperatures lies within ${\pm}2^{\circ}C$ which is considered as appropriate from a micrometeorology point of view. The model proposed in this paper can be adopted as a useful tool in practical applications for winter maintenance. This study being a fundamental research is anticipated to be a starting point for further development of robust surface road temperature prediction algorithms.

주석 전기도금과 열압착본딩을 이용한 Bi2Te3계 열전모듈의 제작

  • 열전재료는 열에너지를 전기에너지로 또는 전기에너지를 열에너지로 직접 변환하는데 가장 널리 사용되는 재료이다. $Bi_2Te_3$계 열전 재료는 400K 이하의 비교적 저온 영역에서 높은 성능지수(Dimensionless Figure of merit, ZT($={\alpha}2{\sigma}T/{\kappa}$, ${\alpha}$: 제백계수, ${\sigma}$: 전기전도도, T: 절대온도, ${\kappa}$: 열전도도))를 나타내는 열전재료이며 자동차 시트나 정수기 등에 응용되고 있다. 열전모듈은 제조시 수십 개에서 수백 개 이상의 n형 및 p형 열전소자를 알루미나($Al_2O_3$)와 같은 세라믹 기판(substrate) 상에 접합된 동 전극 위에 전기적으로 서로 직렬로 접합시켜 제조한다. 기존의 열전모듈의 제조방법에는 동 전극 위에 위에 Sn합금 분말과 플럭스(flux)의 혼합물인 솔더페이스트를 스크린 인쇄법을 사용하여 동 전극에 도포한 다음, 그 위에 열전소자를 얹고 약 520K의 열풍을 가하여 솔더를 용융시켜 열전소자와 동 전극을 접합시킨다. 스크린 인쇄법에서는 인쇄 압력이 일정하지 않으면, 솔더페이스트 층의 두께가 균일하지 않게 되어 열전소자 접합부의 불량을 유발시킨다. 그러나 열모듈은 단 하나의 접합 불량이 모듈 전체의 열전변환성능에 심각한 영향을 줄 수 있기 때문에 본 연구에서는 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위해, 솔더페이스트를 도포하지 않고 열전소자를 직접 동 전극과 접합할 수 있는 방법을 고안하였다. 무전해도금을 이용한 니켈층을 형성시킨 $Bi_2Te_3$계 열전소자 표면에 약 $50{\mu}m$의 주석도금층을 전기도금법을 구사하여 형성시켰다. 그 후, wire cutting을 통하여 $3mm{\times}3mm{\times}3mm$의 크기로 절단한 주석도금된 열전소자를 동 전극에 얹고 1.1KPa의 압력을 가하면서 523K의 핫플레이트 위에서 3분간 방치하여 직접(direct) 열압착 접합을 실시하였다. 접합부의 단면을 SEM을 이용하여 관찰한 결과, 동 전극과 열전소자 사이의 계면에 용융 후 응고된 주석층이 결함없이 균일하게 형성된 양호한 접합부를 관찰할 수 있었다. 따라서, 솔더페이스트를 이용하지 않고, 열전소자 표면에 주석도금을 실시한 후, 동 전극과 직접 열압착 본딩을 실시하는 방법은 균일한 접합계면을 얻을 수 있는 새로운 공정으로 기대된다.
