Wide employment of open questions is one of the notable features of Korean elementary school mathematics textbooks based on the national curriculum revised in 2007. This study closely looks into mathematics textbooks and teacher's guides for third and fourth graders in the revised curriculum, and discusses the ways those open questions are being presented and the assumed premises of the presentation. It then points out some problems associated with their contents and format, such as the problems with presentation contexts, question sentence styles, question sequences, and the like. Lastly, it summarizes the research issues for further study on open questions in terms of the meaning of open questions, guidelines for teachers, and the roles of teachers and textbooks.

In this study, we surveyed on the 3rd and 4th grade teachers' perception and teaching practices towards open-ended question in the elementary mathematics textbook in the revised 7th curriculum. According to the result, teachers understood the purpose of open-ended question in general, but they recognized some problems in terms of open-ended question itself, difficulties found when they dealt with open-ended question in their classes, teacher's guide and teacher training. This research suggests ways of improvement of open-ended question on the basis of the survey results.

이번 열린충남 여름호는 '민선 6기 충남도와 15개 시 군을 이끌어갈 단체장과의 인터뷰'를 특집으로 다뤘다. 포부와 공약, 그리고 미래 버전을 내다볼 수 있는 소중한 기회라고 생각하며, 부족할 수도 있지만 함께 정보를 공유하고 더 나은 정책을 고민해보는 장이 되길 바란다. 본 특집 원고들은 충남도와 해당 시 군에서 직접 작성한 내용을 거의 그대로 실었으며, 최대한 형평성을 유지하기 위해 일부 도지사 질문을 제외한 시 군은 모두 동일한 질문으로 구성되었음을 알린다.

본 고에서는 지난 3월 FCC가 발표한 NOI(Notice of Inquiry)에 대한 SDR포럼 의견을 분석$\cdot$정리하였다. 지면관계상 전체 27개의 질문가운데 SDR기술 현황에 관한 5가지의 질문에 대한 SDR포럼 의견을 분석하였다. 아울러 지난 9월 파리에서 열린 제20회 SDR 포럼 회의결과에 대해서도 간단히 언급하였다.

어떠한 질문에 대한 구체적 해답을 얻고 싶은 경우, 일반적인 정보 검색이 가지는 문제점은 검색 결과가 사용자가 찾고자 하는 답이라 하기 보다는 해답을 포함하는(또는 포함하지 않는) 문서의 집합이라는 점이다. 사용자가 후보문서를 모두 읽을 필요 없이 빠르게 원하는 정보를 얻기 위해서는 검색의 결과로 문서집합을 제시하기 보다는 실제 원하는 답을 제공하는 시스템의 필요성이 대두된다. 이를 위해 기존의 TF-IDF(Term Frequency-Inversed Document Frequency)기반의 정보검색의 방삭에 자연언어처리(Natural Language Processing)를 이용한 질문의 분류와 문서의 사전 표지(Tagging)를 사용할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 매년 NIST(National Institute of Standards & Technology)와 DARPA(Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency)주관으로 열리는 TREC(Text REtrieval Conference)중 1999년에 열린 TREC-8의 사용자의 질문(Question)에 대한 답(Answer)을 찾는 ‘Question & Answer’문제의 실험 환경에서 질문을 특징별로 분류하고 검색 대상의 문서에 대한 사전 표지를 이용한 정보검색 시스템으로 사용자의 질문(Question)에 대한 해답을 보다 정확하고 효율적으로 제시할 수 있음을 실험을 통하여 보인다.

In this study, we examined classroom interaction to explore the relationships among teacher questions, turn-taking patterns, and student talks in mathematics classrooms. We analyzed lessons given by three elementary teachers (two first-grade teachers and one second-grade teacher) who worked in the same school using a conversation-analytic approach. We observed individual classrooms three times in a year. The results revealed that when teachers provided open-ended questions, such as "why and how" questions and "agree and disagree" questions, and used a non-IRE pattern (teacher initiation-student response-teacher feedback; Mehan, 1979), students more actively engaged in classroom discourse by justifying their ideas and refuting others' thinking. Conversely, when teachers provided closed-ended questions, such as "what" questions, and used an IRE pattern, students tended to give short answers focusing on only one point. The findings suggested teachers should use open-ended questions and non-IRE turn-taking patterns to create an effective math-talk learning community. In addition, school administrators and mathematics educators should support teachers to acquire practical knowledge regarding this approach.

세계의 부동산 전문가들이 한 자리에 모였다. 지난 10월 30일 특별 인터뷰를 시작으로 11월 11일까지 열린 ‘서울 국제 부동산 세미나 2006’에 대한 반응은 어느 때보다 뜨거웠다. 세미나의 발표자로 나선 전문가들에게 해외 부동산 시장의 흐름과 국내 부동산 시장의 시사점에 대해 질문을 던졌다.

지난해 11월23일 싱가포르에서 열린 APCCㆍICCS합동 학술회의는 '디지털통신의 기술발전'이라는 주제 아래 32개 세션으로 진행되었다. 마지막날 오전에 있었던 이동컴퓨팅세션에선 충남대 김상하교수가 활발하게 토론을 주도했으며 오후에는 필자가 논문을 제출한 망계획 및 관리세션으로 이어졌는데 많은 질문으 받아 관심을 모았다.

2월 18일부터 4일간 미국 라스베가스에서 열린 99년 미국 소아마취학회의 학술대회에 한국인으로는 외롭게 혼자 참석했다. 이번 학술대회는 임상적인 면에 치중한 논문과 특이한 증례를 보고하는 포스터 내용들이 많았는데 내가 발표한 포스터에 시선이 모아져 기분이 좋았다. 논문발표 때는 다소 긴장되었지만 발표 후 질문ㆍ답변까지 무사히 넘겼다. 이번 대회 참가를 계기로 나는 '환자와 함께 열심히 일하고 연구하는 것'만이 국제사회에서 남는 길임을 절실히 깨달았다.

The purposes of this study were to examine the characteristics of teacher help in small group Thinking Science(TS) activities and analyze the way students respond to teacher help. For this study, twenty-four 5th grade and twenty-four 7th grade students were selected, to undertake TS activities. Out of the 8 activities students participated in, the verbal interactions in activity 4 and 6, by students in four small groups, which incorporated relatively active argumentation was analyzed. Students' cognitive level was identified through a science reasoning task and the students were grouped heterogeneously according to their cognitive level. This study showed that teachers predominately used simple confirmation questions in preference to metacognitive question. Also, teacher help varied according to one's personal traits, work experience and degree of activity recognition. It was discovered that when the teacher provided student appropriate metacognitive questions and sufficient feedback, students actively engaged in argumentation. On the other hand, when the teacher asked simple confirmation questions and interfered in the activity, students did not participate in argumentation actively.
