Thermomechanical Coupled Analysis of Carbon/phenolic Composite Structures in Reentry Environments (재진입 환경의 탄소/페놀릭 복합재 구조물의 열기계적 연계 해석)

  • In this paper, thermomechanical coupled analysis of carbon/phenolic composites structures in reentry environment was performed. The interface of thermomechanical coupled analysis was constructed using commercial software. The governing equations of temperature and displacement fields were considered to simulate change of physical behavior due to pyrolysis and ablation effects. The results of thermomechanical coupled analysis were compared with the results of ablation test using arc-heated wind tunnel. Also, the structural stability of reentry capsule was analyzed using the analysis interface. The excellent ablation characteristics and thermal protection effects of the carbon/phenolic composites were confirmed and the constructed analysis interface can be effectively used to perform thermal protection system design.

  • 고온형 SOFC의 개발에 있어 스택의 신뢰성을 확보하는데 가장 중요한 핵심기술은 스택 구성요소 사이를 접합하는데 필요한 고온형 밀봉재의 개발이다. SOFC 스택에서의 밀봉재는 고체전해질과 접속자 사이에서 음극에 공급되는 연료가스와 양극에 공급되는 공기가 서로 혼합되는 것을 방지하는 역할은 물론 기계적으로 취약한 단전지의 보호 및 스택전체 구조물의 구조적 일체성(Structural integrity)을 부여하는데 주목적이 있다. 현재 기체 기밀성을 유지하기 위한 밀봉재는 크게 유리 및 결정화 유리계, mica및 mica/유리복합재료, 유리/충전재 복합재료 등이 사용되고 있으나 다수의 단위전지로 구성되는 스택 구성에서 스택의 열기계적 안정성 및 장기수명을 보장하기 위해서는 본 연구에서 개발하고자 하는 복합밀봉재가 가장 적합할 것으로 예상되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 SiO-B2O3-RO계에 BaO, SrO를 일정비율로 첨가하여 제작된 유리 frit을 열처리하여 물리화학적 물성변화를 검토하였으며, $750^{\circ}C$ 이하의 연화점을 갖는 유리를 기지상으로 하고 세라믹 보강재를 첨가한 고온형 복합밀봉재를 개발하고 그 물리화학적 안정성, 열기계적 안정성 및 밀봉 특성을 평가하였다.

  • The thermomechanical characteristics were evaluated for 17-4PH stainless steel widely used in supersonic airframe subjected to both aerodynamic loading and heating. The thermomechanical tests were conducted under both elevated temperature and rapid heating condition from $1^{\circ}C/sec\;to\;28^{\circ}C/sec$. The thermomechanical behaviors under rapid heating were compared with those of elevated temperature after 1/2 hour exposure in terms of yield stress to investigate the influence of heating rates. A heating rate-yield temperature parameter was suggested for rapid heating based on time-temperature parameters, and master yield stress curve was obtained by using these parameters. The experimental results and methodology from this study can be used as basic engineering data when designing supersonic vehicle structures subjected to aerodynamic loading and severe heating environment.

  • The thermo-mechanical analysis and test were performed for plate structure under mechanical and thermal loading conditions. Infrared heating system and hydraulic loading system were used to simulate mechanical and thermal environment for the plate structure which is similar to the fin of the airframe. Also, FEM analysis using plastic option was added to evaluate thermo-mechanical behavior. Thermo-mechanical tests were conducted at elevated temperature and rapid heating(10℃/sec) condition with external loading together. To investigate the effect of heating environment, the strength at room temperature was compared with that of elevated temperature and rapid heating condition. A methodology for test and analysis for supersonic vehicle subjected to aerodynamic loading and heating was generated through the study. These experimental and analysis results can be used for designing thermal resistance structures of the supersonic vehicle.

  • A coupled thermomechanical analysis of composite structures in pyrolysis and ablation environments is performed. The pyrolysis and ablation models include the effects of mass loss, pore gas diffusion, endothermic reaction energy, surface recession, etc. The thermal and structural analysis interface is based upon a staggered coupling algorithm by using a commercial finite element code. The characteristics of the proposed method are investigated through numerical experiments with carbon/phenolic composites. The numerical studies are carried out to examine the surface recession rate by chemical and mechanical ablation. In addition, the effects of shrinkage or intumescence during the pyrolysis process are shown.

Prediction of Thermo-mechanical Behavior for CNT/epoxy Composites Using Molecular Dynamics Simulation (분자동역학 시뮬레이션을 이용한 CNT/에폭시 복합재의 열기계적 거동 예측)

  • In this paper, molecular dynamics (MD) simulation was carried to predict thermo-mechanical behaviors for carbon nanotube (CNT) reinforced epoxy composites and to analyze the trends. Total of six models having the volume fractions of CNT from 0 to 25% in epoxy were constructed. To predict thermal behaviors, temperature was increased constantly from 300 to 600 K, and the glass transition temperature ($T_g$) and coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) analyzed using the relationship between temperature and specific volume. The elastic moduli that represented to the mechanical behaviors were also predicted by constant strain. Additionally, the effects of functionalization of CNT on mechanical behaviors of composite were analyzed. Models were constructed to represent CNTs functionalized by nitrogen doping and COOH groops, and interfacial behaviors and elastic moduli were analyzed. Results showed that the agglomerations of CNTs in epoxy cause by perturbations of thermo-mechanical behaviors, and the functionalization of CNTs improved the interfacial response as well as mechanical properties.

Characteristics of Thermomechanical Pulps Made of Russian Spruce and Larix, and Myanmar Bamboo (러시아산 가문비와 낙엽송, 그리고 미얀마산 대나무로 제조한 열기계펄프 특성 연구)

  • Three fiber sources including Russian spruce (Picea jezoensis) and larix (Larix leptolepis), and Myanmar bamboo (Phyllostachys bambusoides) for thermomechanical pulp were explored to replace domestic pine (Pinus densiflora) pulp that has some limitations in an aspect of supply and pitch trouble. Thermomechanical pulps were manufactured under the identical condition, and then compared with their representative pulp properties and pulping process. Both Russian larix and Myanmar bamboo contained large amounts of extractives that would negatively affect mechanical pulping processes. Russian spruce showed the least contents in shives and pitch. Russian spruce and domestic pine reached an optimum freeness level within a short pulp processing time, which consumed less amount of refining energy compared to larix and bamboo. In particular, the spruce wood showed the highest brightness level which might lead to a less consumption of bleaching chemicals. It was expected that Russian spruce could be replaced with the domestic pine wood in respect of both pulping process and pulp quality.

  • 기능경사재(FGM)는 구성 물질의 체적분율(volume fraction)이 복합재 전체에 걸쳐 연속적 그리고 기능적으로 분포되어 있어, 기존의 이종물질 접합식(bi-material-type) 복합재보다 현저히 우수한 열기계적 특성을 가진다. 하지만, 기능경사 내열복합재의 열-탄소성 거동은 체적분율의 분포형태와 경사층이 차지하는 상대두께비에 따라 절대적으로 좌우된다. 본 연구는 기능경사 내열복합재의 열-탄소성 특성의 이들 두 설계인자에 대한 파라메트릭 FEM해석을 다룬 것이다. 열-탄소성 이론과 유한요소 근사화에 따라 연구용 2차원 FEM 프로그램을 개발하고, 대표적인 3층 구조의 2차원 기능경사 내열복합재의 열-탄소성 특성을 설계변수의 다양한 조합에 따라 분석하였다.

  • This study describes tensile test results under room and elevated temperatures for AISI 304 stainless steel which is widely used for a airframe structural material. Tensile tests were conducted according to ASTM standards. Reliability analysis was conducted by using normal probability paper to evaluate A and B basis tensile strengths applicable to airframe structural design.
