  • In the present study, hot forging process for a lower arm connector of an automobile was investigated. An FEM code, DEFORM-3D, was used to analyze the process and the process parameters, such as temperature, strain and strain rate, were obtained. The microstructure of the connector was predicted by applying the Sellars and Yada microstructure evolution models to the process parameters. The method of microstructure prediction used in the present study seems to be effective for the quality assurance of a forged automotive product.

  • A effective and accurate method of hot-forging process is essential to the design of optimized dies as well as workpiece of intial shape. the former is achieved by a proper forging sequence with invokes serious problem like excessive load and die wear, die failure, underfilling and lap defects. the latter is achieved by a proper preform design of case I, case II, case III. metal forming processes of aluminum-alloy forged at an effective strain and temperature are analyzed by the finite element method. the non-isothermal analysis have been compared with optimized in terms of preform shape.

  • Process design of hot forging, asymmetric to symmetric rail, which is used for the turnout of railway express has been investigated. Owing to the big difference in shape between the initial billet and the final forged product, it is impossible to hot forge the rail in a single step. Therefore, multi step forging as well as die design for each step are necessary for the production. The deformation behavior during hot forging has been analyzed by the numerical simulation through commercial FEA software, DEFORM$^{TM}$-2D. Modification of the design and repeated simulation have been carried out on the basis of the simulation result. For comparison with the simulation results, flow analysis experiment using plasticize has been also carried out. The results of the flow analysis experiment showed good agreement with those of the simulation. Therefore, the developed process design could be applied to the actual production.

  • Multistage hot forging process enables mass production of various parts at a high speed, wherein, it is important to design the forging steps in an optimal way. Finite element methods are widely applied for optimizing the forging process design; however, they present inaccurate results due to the rapid change in the mold temperature during multistage hot forging. In this study, the temperature distributions of the mold in a steady state were calculated via heat transfer analysis during mold cooling. The flow stress and friction coefficient of the material were measured according to the temperature and were applied for numerical analysis of the multistage hot forging process. Eventually, the accuracy of the analysis results is verified by comparing these results with the experiments.

  • The equi-potential lines designed in the electric field are introduced to find the preform shape in axisymmetric hot forging. The equi-potential lines generated between two conductors of different voltages show similar trends of the minimum work paths between the undeformed shape and the deformed shape. Base on this similarity, the equi-potential lines obtained by arrangement of the initial and final shapes are utilized fur the design of preform, and then the artificial neural network is used to find the range of initial volume and potential value of the electric field.

  • This paper describes about the estimation method of die lift by wear and plastic deformation in hot forging process. The thermal load and the thermal softening are happened by the high temperature in hot forging process. Tool lift decreases considerably due to the softening of the surface layer of a tool caused by high thermal load and long contact time between tool and billet. Also, tool life is to a large extent limited by wear, heat crack and plastic deformation in hot forging process. Above all, the main factors which affects die accuracy and tool lift are wear and the plastic deformation of a die. The new developed technique for predicting tool life applied to estimate the production quantity for a spindle component and these techniques assist to improve the tool life in hot forging process.

  • Alumium alloys hot forging process are gaining increased acceptance in the automotive and electronic industries and hot forging is one of the most efficient manufacturing method for mass product parts. It has been investigated the microstructures and mechanical properties of Al-11.7Si-0.5Mg (KNT40-T6)alloy fabricated by hot forging process for development of connecting rod in this study. The microstructure of hot forged specimen was composed of eutectic structure of alumimum solid solution and $Mg_2Si$ precipitates. The tensile strength of solutionized Al-11.7Si-0.5Mg alloy was 217MPa. This alloy showed a good corrosion resistance using electrochemical polarization test.

  • The purpose of this study was to find a way to lengthen the life of hot closed forging die. The fluid interpretation on the plastic deformation of billet of billet was performed by finite element method. And design modification on the impression shape was also performed. The defaced part on the impression surface was mended by the developed build-up welding method. The die life was 3,000 units but alter the procedure it was lengthened up to 5,000.

  • This paper describes the process design for hot forging of bearing hub. Forging processes of bearing hub are simulated using the rigid-plastic finite element method. In the process called closed die forging without flash, the design of blocker geometry is of critical importance. Forging processes designs are take advantage of computer aided Process planning and experts. But that is difficult to predict metal flow line. So the preform is designed by the expert, and modified through predict metal flow line by CAE. This paper is to approach preform design considered defect such as metal flow and unfitting etc. at the finisher process.

  • In this research. we have proposed a new technique to determine .the combination of design parameters for the process design of a hot forged product using artificial neural network(ANN) and statistical design of experiments(DOE). The investigated problem involves the adequate selection of the aspect ratio of billet, the ram velocity and the friction factor as design parameters. An optimal billet satisfying the forming limitation, die filling, load and energy as well as more uniform distribution of effective strain, is determined by applying the ability of artificial neural network and considering the analysis of mean and variation on the functional requirement. This methodology will be helpful in designing and controlling parameters on the shop floor which would yield the best design solution.
