A series of thermoplastic polyurethane copolymers were prepared from polypropyleneglycol(PPG, MW 3000), 1,4-butanediol, Isophorone diisocyanate(IPDI) and dibutyltin dilaurate(BBT) as catalyst. Studies have been made on the effects of molar ratio of isocyanate /polyol/chain extender on the properties such as tensile and thermal properties. By varying the ration of hard to soft segments, TPU ranging from soft elastomeric polymer to relatively hard elastoplastics and be obtained. The storage modulus and glass transition temperature of TPU increased with increasing the hard segment content.

Effects of the polyol type and the hard segment content of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) on the crystallization of hard segments in TPUs were studied employing differential scanning calorimetry. Diols used for the preparation of TPUs were poly(tetramethylene ether glycol) (PTMEG), poly(propylene glycol) (PPG), polycaprolactone (PCL), poly(butylene adipate) (PBA) the molecular weights of which were 2000 and the hard segments contents of TPUs were $35\~44\;wt\%$. We found that crystallization of hard segments in TPUs were observed at higher temperatures and became faster with increasing hard segment contents of TPUs. The crystallization rate of TPU was also affected by the types of polyols used for the preparation of TPUs. It is postulated that lower miscibility of soft segments and hard segments results in higher crystallization rate and increase of cooling crystallization temperatures due to better hydrogen bending between hard segments in melts.
Ester- and ether-based thermoplastic polyurethanes of different hardness were injection molded at different mold temperatures and effects of mold temperature on the physical properties of TPUs were investigated. Glass transition temperatures of soft segments of TPUs were hardly changed by mold temperatures. The phase separation of soft and hard segments of injection molded TPUs were affected little by mold temperatures. However, crystallinity of hard segments, temperature range of rubbery plateau, and tensile strength of injection molded TPUs decreased with increasing mold temperatures for TPUs of high hardness. However, injection molded TPUs of low hardness showed increases of crystallinity of hard segments, temperature range of rubbery plateau, and tensile strength with increasing mold temperatures. Different physical properties of injection molded TPUs depending on mold temperatures were attributed to different crystallization and physical crosslinking effects of hard segments.
Thermal degradation of thermoplasitc polyurethane modified polycarbonate has been investigated by means of DSC, GPC and FT-IR techniques. The polyurethanes used in this study are TPU-35 and TPU-53 containing 35.5 and 53.4 wt% of hard segments, respectively. The more content of hard segment, the higher the glass transition temperature (T$_{g}$) of TPU was observed. On the other hand, the T$_{g}$ of the TPU modified PC decreased with the content of TPU and the annealing temperature regardless of the hard segment contents. The latter behavior nay arise from the thermal degradation of TPU upon annealing process: the observed thermal degradation temperatures were at 240 and 25$0^{\circ}C$ for the PC/TPU-35 and PC/TPU-53, respectively. The molecular weight, molecular weight distribution and viscosity agree well with the DSC measurement, which implicates a thermal degradation of TPU. In addition, thermal stability of the TPU modified PC linearly decreased with an incorporation of TPU. Transesterification or any interaction was not observed using FT-IR: the evidence was no frequency shift or any variance betwere the carbonyl stretching and NH group. For the specimens prepared below the degradation temperature, the enhancement of the thickness dependent impact strength of the PC/TPU blend was observed, and the morphology of the two blends was compared.d.
The effect of nanoscopic and microscopic Fe, $Fe_3O_4$, and Ni particles and their shapes and substrate materials on the heating behavior of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) adhesive films was investigated via induction heating. The heat generation tendency of $Fe_3O_4$ particles was higher than that shown by Fe and Ni particles in the TPU adhesive films. When the Fe and Ni particle size was larger than the penetration skin depth, the initial heating rate and maximum temperature increased with an increase in the particle size. This is attributed to the eddy current heat loss. The heating behavior of the TPU films with Ni particles of different shapes was examined, and different hysteresis heat losses were observed depending on the particle shape. Consequently, the flake-shaped Ni particles showed the most favorable heat generation because of the largest hysteresis loss. The substrate materials also affected the heating behavior of the TPU adhesive films in an induction heating system, and the thermal conductivity of the substrate materials was determined to be the main factor affecting the heating behavior.
Sandwich composites of carbon fiber reinforced plastic(CFRP) and polymer foam will be used to automobile and aerospace industry according to increasing importance of light weight. In this study, mechanical and heat resistance properties of sandwich composites were compared with type of polymer foam (polyethylene terephthalate(PET), polyvinylchloride(PVC), epoxy and polyurethane). All types of polymer foams were degraded to 30, 60, 120, 180 minutes in $180^{\circ}C$. After heat degradation, the polymer foams were observed using optical microscope and compressive test was performed using universal testing machine(UTM). Epoxy foam had the highest compressive property to 2.6 MPa and after thermal degradation, the mechanical property and structure of foam were less changed than others. Epoxy foam had better mechanical properties than other polymer foams under high temperature. Because the epoxy foam was post cured under high temperature. As the results, Epoxy foam was optimal materials to apply to structures that thermal energy was loaded constantly.

Blending is an easy and popular means to achieve a desired set of characteristic properties. The blends, by melt mixing of thermoplastic materials and elastomer, have received considerable attention in recent years. It is well known that nearly all blends comprise one polymer domain dispersed in the matrices of the other polymer [1]. (omitted)

This paper proposes the design of micro energy harvesting system by using thermoplastic polyurethane(TPU), which harvests electric energy from the kinetic energy of pedestrian and drives the desired load, and applied it to the self-generating shoes. Also, we designed the buck-boost converter in discontinuous conduction mode(DCM) which functions as a resistor emulator(RE) such that converter's average input current is proportional to input voltage, and it results in transfer of maximum power to buck-boost converter according to control behavior that converter's input resistance is matched with TPU's internal resistance. Therefore, this paper confirms the validity of proposed control scheme and possibility of application for self-generating shoes, from the obtained characteristic of designed micro energy harvesting system by using a TPU and buck-boost converter in DCM.

The significance of thermoplastic polyolefin polypropylene (PP) lies in its potential to replace polyvinyl chloride (PVC), the most widely used material for automobile interiors (door trim, dash board), which discharges harmful compounds in certain conditions. Another benefit of PP (0.855 amorphous - 0.946 crystalline $g/cm^3$) is its low density compared to that of PVC ($1.1-1.45g/cm^3$), which reduces vehicle weight. Market demand for eco-friendly water-based adhesive/coating material is rising significantly as a substitute for solvent-based adhesive/coating material which emits VOC and causes harmful working conditions. Under such context, in this study, a series of eco-friendly waterborne polyurethane-urea primer (a paint product that allows finishing paint to adhere much better than if it were used alone) for hydrophobic PP were prepared from different mix of DMPA content, NCO/OH molar ratio, various wt% of silicone diol and various soft segment content, among which DMPA of 21 mole %, NCO/OH molar ratio of 1.2, modified silicone diol of 5 wt% and soft segment content of 73 wt% led to good adhesion strength. Additionally, the incorporation of optimum content of additives (0.5 wt% dispersing agent, 0.5 wt% levelling agent, 1.5 wt% antifoaming agent, 3.0 wt% matting agent) into the optimum waterborne polyurethane-urea also enabled good stability, levelling, antifoaming and non-glossy.
