  • The basic design concept of the DACS(Divert and Attitude Control System) propellant is presented and the geometry optimization of the DACS propellant with limited outer diameter and maximum burning rate of the propellant is performed. Two-side burning surface conditions burned at the core and the one side of the propellant are applied to the propellant. And the optimized values for the radius of core, length of propellant, angle of end-side surface are obtained by the PSO algorithm. The direction for DACS propellant design is suggested by analyzing optimized design points for various burning rate.

  • Recently, environmental sustainability of the transitional explosives and propellants is an issue of growing importance in energetic materials. For examples, ammonium perchlorate(AP) as an solid propellants oxidizer could create a poisonous gas and atmospheric pollutions, such as HCl. Among the several oxidizers, hydrazinium nitroformate(HNF) is an effective candidate substance for eco-friendly oxidizer, which has high density, pressure index, and less smog generating property during combustion for the Divert and Attitude Control System(DACS). This study was confirmed a synthesis through various conditions, was performed for the essential data of solubility the crystallization process. Also, crystallization process such as cooling, drowning-out and sonication were performed.

  • An aerodynamic shape optimization technique has been developed for helicopter rotor blades in hover based on a continuous adjoint method on unstructured meshes. The Euler flow solver and the continuous adjoint sensitivity analysis were formulated on the rotating frame of reference for hovering rotor blades. In order to handle the repeated evaluation of the design cycle efficiently, the flow and adjoint solvers were parallelized using a domain decomposition strategy. A solution-adaptive mesh refinement technique was adopted for the accurate capturing of the tip vortex. Applications were made for the aerodynamic shape optimization of Caradonna-Tung rotor blades and UH60 rotor blades in hover. The results showed that the present method is an effective tool to determine optimum aerodynamic shapes of rotor blades requiring less torque while maintaining the desired thrust level.

  • When we design a linear motor, the thermal behavior investigation is one of great important considerations with respect to uniform thrust force and thermal deformation of a linear motor. In this study, we conduct the research for the structural design of the linear motor for LMTT(Linear Motor-based Transfer Technology) which is the next generation of container horizontal transfer system in order to automate a container terminal. After the dimensions of main parts for a linear motor were set up, we carried out the thermal-structural analysis of the linear motor considering the thermal analysis of the stator module.
