Radical measurement technology in constant-volume chamber (정적연소실 내의 라디칼 계측기술)

  • 본 글에서는 자동차엔진을 모형화한 정적연소기내의 라디칼 계측기술에 관해 언급하고자 한다. 밀폐연소기내에서 연소반응에 의해 발생된 국소 및 평균 라디칼 강도를 계측하여 순간당량비를 구할 수 있는 관계식을 유도할 수 있으며, 이것을 이용하면 기관에서 발생되는 연소과잉에 의하여 순간당량비를 구하거나, 각종 산업용 버너 등 다양한 연소기에 적용할 수 있을 것이다.

OH-and CH-Radical Chemiluminescence Characteristics in the Spray Combustion of Ultransonically Atomized Kerosene (초음파에 의해 무화된 케로신 분무연소에서의 OH 라디칼 및 CH 라디칼 자발광 특성)

  • An experimental study was performed to investigate the chemiluminescence characteristics in the spray combustion of ultransonically atomized kerosene. The radical intensity of the spray flame was measured using an ICCD camera and the amount of fuel consumed was obtained by a precise flow-rate measurement technique during combustion. Fuel consumption increased linearly with the increase in carrier-gas flow rate, and typical group combustion, which is a characteristic of spray combustion, was observed. It was found from the analysis of chemiluminescence that the maximum emission intensities of OH and CH radicals decrease, and they move downstream resulting in the increase in a vivid reaction zone as the spray flow rate increases.

  • 석탄 연소로 내에서는 어떠한 방식으로든 NH- 라디칼이 존재하게 된다. 즉, 배가스 처리 공정에서는 SNCR 방식에 의해 질소산화물 (NO) 저감할 경우 환원제로써 사용되는 암모니아 또는 요소와 같은 물질은 고온의 연소로에서 NH- 라디칼을 생성하게 되기도 하며, 순환유동층 연소로처럼 석탄을 원료로 사용하는 연소로에서는 석탄내에 포함되어 있는 N, H와 같은 원소들이 휘발하여 NH- 라디칼이 생성되기도 한다.(중략)

평면 레이저 유도 형광법을 이용한 엔진 연소실 OH 라디칼 계측

  • 평면 레이저 유도 형광법을 사용하여, 가시와 엔진내부에서 연소 과정이 진행되느 동안 OH라디칼 분포에 대한 2차원 영상을 계측하였다. Rayleigh 산란광을 차단하기 위해서 광대역 필터인 UG11을 사용하였으며, OH 형광 영상은 ICCD카메라로 수집하였다. OH라디칼 은 Q1(11)과 P2(8) 파장으로 여기하였다. 엔진 연료로는 iso-octane을 사용하였으며, 이 연료에서는 자체 형광이 발생하지 않았다. 난류를 암시하는 주름진 화염 경계면을 명확하게 관측하였으며, 어떤 영상에서는 화염 섬(flame island)이 나타나기도 한다.

  • 본 연구는 라디칼 착화(Radical Ignition이하 RI) 기술을 적용한 부실직분식 CNG(Compressed Natural Gas) 엔진의 구동특성에 관한 것이다. 실험엔진은 단기통 디젤엔진을 개조하여 사용하였으며, 이는 부실식 디젤엔진처럼 연소실이 주실과 부실로 나누어져 있다. 부실에 분사된 CNG는 스파크플러그로 점화하며, 부실로 부터의 연소가스가 주실 희박 혼합기를 시켜 구동하는 엔진이다. RI 기술은 연소속도를 향상시킬 수 있다. 본 연구는 주로 저부하 RI-CNG 엔진의 성능을 연구하였다. 연료분사기간은 9 ms, 공기과잉률은 1.0, 1.2, 1.4로 하였다. 연료분사시기는 엔진의 배가밸브가 닫히는 ATDC $20^{\circ}CA$ 부터 $120^{\circ}CA$ 사이로, $20^{\circ}CA$ 간격으로 지각시켜 가며 실험하였다. 본 연구는 연료분사시기 및 공기과잉률이 연소최고압력 ($P_{max}$), 연소최고압력시기(${\Theta}_{pmax}$), 도시평균유효압력(IMEP), 사이클 변동계수($COV_{imep}$), 연소속도에 미치는 양향 등을 구하고 분석하였다.

  • A combustion flame visualization system, which is used as an engine diagnostics tool, was developed in order to understand the combustion reaction mechanism in the development stage for S.I. engines. The measurement system consists of an I-CCD camera and a computer-aided image processing system. By using optically accessible engine system, the flame structure was analyzed from the acquired graylevel image and the direction of flame propagation (shape of flame) has been measured to understand combustion phenomena. And combustion radical which involves combustion information were measured. As a result, strong relation between combustion radicals intensity ratio and air excess ratio was found.

Symptoms on Generation of Combustion Oscillation and their Detection (진동연소 발생에 관한 징후와 이의 검출)

  • Usefulness of an optical fiber was demonstrated by detecting the generation of self-excited combustion oscillations. OH chemiluminescence intensity detected by the optical fiber showed mostly excellent agreement with those obtained by high speed CCD camera measurements when combustion oscillations were strong. Symptoms of self-excited combustion oscillation were also studied in order to predict the onset of combustion oscillation before it proceeded to a catastrophic failure. For the purpose, we have found and proposed unique measures to tell the onset of self-excited combustion oscillations based on the careful statistics of fluctuating properties in flames, such as pressure or omission of OH radicals.

  • A prior fundamental study was executed using a constant volume chamber to improve the burning properties of lean pre-mixture by the injection of active radicals generated in the sub-chamber. In consequence, RI method shows remarkable progress in the aspects of burning velocity and combustible lean limit compared with SI method. In this study, the necessary additional works have been performed to be based on the former results. We changed parameters as the initial temperature and the initial pressure of mixture. And the effects of residual gas at issue in a real engine were investigated. As a result, the effects of initial temperature were significant, but on the other hand, those of initial pressure were slight. The correlation of passage hole number between overall passage hole area was grasped. And the more detailed analysis is required on residual gas.

  • To clarify the effects of equivalence ratio, initial pressure and temperature on the flame propagation and radicals characteristics, a series of the experimental study were conducted in a quiescent methane-air premixture using a constant volume chamber. The development of the flame was visualized following the start of ignition using high speed schlieren photo and radical images by intensified CCD camera. Combustion pressure and ion current were recorded simultaneously according to the experimental conditions which were equivalence ratio with 0.7 to 1.2, initial pressure with 0.08 MPa to 0.40 MPa and initial premixture temperature with 3l3.2K to 403.2K. The results showed that the flame speed by ion current and mass fraction burned by combustion pressure characterized the effects of flame propagation very well. And increased combustion duration due to lean combustion condition that was below equivalence ratio, 0.8 caused cycle variation and decreasing the power of engine.
