Combustion Characteristics of Orifice Size of Torch in a CVCC (토치 점화 장치의 오리피스 직경에 따른 연소특성 파악)

  • Seven different size of orifice were applied in a constant volume combustion chamber for evaluating the effects of torch-ignition on combustion. The initial flame development and flame propagation were analyzed by the mass fraction burn and combustion enhancement rate. The combustion pressures were measured to calculate the mass fraction burn and the combustion enhancement rates. In addition, the flame propagations were visualized by the shadowgraph method for the qualitative comparison. The result showed that the combustion pressure and mass burned fraction were increased when using the torch-ignition device. The combustion enhancement rates of torch-ignition cases were improved in comparison with conventional spark ignition. Finally, the visualization results showed that the torch-ignition induced faster burn than conventional spark ignition due to the earlier transition to turbulent flame and larger flame surface, during the initial stage.

  • Six different size of torch-ignition device were applied in a constant volume combustion chamber for evaluating the effects of torch-ignition on combustion. The torch-ignition device was designed six different volumes and same orifice size. The combustion pressures were measured to calculate the mass burn fraction and combustion enhancement rate. In addition, the flame propagations were visualized by shadowgraph method for the qualitative comparison. The result showed that the combustion pressure and mass burn fraction were increased when using the torch ignition device. And the combustion duration were decreased. The combustion enhancement rates of torch-ignition cases were improved in comparison with conventional spark ignition. Finally, the visualization results showed that the torch-ignition device the torch-ignition induced faster burn than conventional spark ignition due to the earlier transition to turbulent flame and larger flame surface, during the initial stage. And the initial flame propagation was effected torch-ignition volume.

  • This study describes extinguishment mechanism of the purely buoyant diffusion flame using the water spray. Experiments are systematically carried out for the oul pool fire with the six different atomizing nozzles. From the measurement of burning rate which represents the combustion intensity of fire, it is observed that the water spray is able to act to enhance fire rather than to extinguish fire. The air entertainment due to the water spray is visualized to understand this phenomenon, acting to enhance fire. In order to observe effects of droplet size on fire extinguishment, and amount of water which reaches the flame base, fuel surface, and mean diameter of droplets are measured. When water droplets are too small, they do not reach the flame base because they can the water spray having too small doplets is ineffective for extinguishment of the oil fire.

  • In the present study, the combustion characteristics of methane and hydrogen-supplemented methane as alternative fuels for automotive vehicles were investigated at various hydrogen substitution rate, ignition position and ignition methods in a CVCC. As a result, it is possible to decrease the total burning time and to obtain the reduction of NO concentration by using MSCDI device under the lean mixture conditions without deteriorating combustion characteristics such as combustion efficiency, maximum combustion pressure etc.. And by mixing hydrogen into methane, it was found that the reduction of the total burning time was obtained, in comparison with the use of methane only ; and at the same time, the combustion promotion rate was improved remarkably in comparison with the use of methane only.

  • This paper presents the evaluation of combustion characteristics of sing-hole plasma jet ignitions in comparison with conventional spark ignition for variable of swirl velocity. Plasma jet plugs are three types according to ejecting directions : center of chamber, positive and negative swirl flow direction. Experiments are carried out for equivalent ratio 1.0 of LPG-air mixture in a constant volume cylindrical vessel. Not only the flame propagation is photographed at intervals, but the pressure variation in the combustion chamber is also recorded throughout the entire combustion process. The results show that the plasma jet ignitions and spark ignition enhance the overall combustion rate by increasing the swirl velocity. The dependence of the combustion rate swirl velocity leade to the conclusion that the placma jet plug, which ejects plasma jet to the cwnter of combustion chamber is the most desirable ignitor than other plugs.

  • 석탄가스화복합발전과 연계하여 사용할 수 있는 $CO_2$분리법으로 연소 전 탈탄소화는 연료가 연소되기 전에 $CO_2$를 회수하는 방법으로 현재 여러가지 분리법이 사용되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 가스 하이드레이트의 다양한 응용 분야 중 이산화탄소 격리분야에서 합성가스로부터 $CO_2$롤 효과적으로 분리/회수하기 위하여 가스 고형화법에 관한 연구를 진행하였다. 가스 하이드레이트 형성과정에서의 반응 특성을 살펴보기 위하여 순수계와 촉진제 첨가계(TBAB, TBAF, THF)에 대하여 반응시간에 따른 가스소모량 및 기상의 $CO_2$ 조성 변화를 측정하였다. 그 결과 하이드레이트 상에 고농도의 $CO_2$가 포집되는 것을 확인 할 수 있었다. 순수계와 THF 첨가계의 경우 가스 소모량이 다른 계에 비하여 높게 나타났다. 이는 순수계의 경우 구조-I의 큰 동공과 작은 동공에 모두 기체가 점유되기 때문이며, THF 첨가계의 경우 구조-II의 큰 동공에만 기체가 점유되지만 THF의 첨가로 인해 전환율이 증가되기 때문이다. 반면, TBAF와 TBAB 첨가계의 경우에는 상재적으로 낮은 가스 소모량을 보였다. 기체 소모량이 큰 경우 최종 기상의 $CO_2$ 조성이 낮게 나타났다. 그리고 모든 실험조건에서 1시간 이내에 하이드레이트 형성반응이 종결되는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한, 촉진제 첨가에 의한 하이드레이트의 구조적인 변화를 확인하기 위하여 Raman 분광법과 $^1H$-NMR을 이용하여 혼합가스 하이드레이트를 분석하였다. 본 실험으로 얻어진 결과는 가스 고형화법을 이용한 합성가스 분리 공정 설계 및 개발에 중요한 기초자료가 될 것으로 사료된다.

  • 화력발전 분야에서 $CO_2$ 분리는 크게 연소전 탈탄소화(pre-combustion capture)와 연소후 포획(post-combustion capture)으로 나누어진다, 연소후 포획은 연료를 연소한 후 발생하는 $CO_2$$N_2$가스에서 $CO_2$를 분리하는 기술로 흡수나, 흡착, 막분리 등을 주로 이용한다, 연소전 탈탄소화는 연소 전에 $CO_2$가 발생되지 않도록 하는 기술로써, 부분 산화나 개질 및 수성가스 변위반응 등이 포함되며 생성된 $H_2$$CO_2$를 분리하여 수소를 생산하는 기술($CO_2/H_2$분리가 핵심)이다. 우리나라는 대부분 연소후 포획 위주로 많은 연구가 진행되어 왔다, 하지만 최근 고유가 시장이 형성되면서 석탄화력 발전 및 복합가스발전(IGCC)에 필요한 연소전 탈탄소화($H_2/CO_2$ 가스로부터 $CO_2$ 회수) 연구에 산업적 관심이 급상승되고 있다. 특히, 연소전 탈탄소화 과정에서는 높은 자체압력(약 2.5 - 5.0MPa)과 비교적 높은 농도의 $CO_2$(약 40%의)가 발생되기 때문에, 연소전 탈탄소화는 가스하이드레이트 형성/분해 원리가 가장 잘 적용될 수 있는 기술이라 할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 가스 하이드레이트 형성원리를 이용하여 정온 정압 조건에서 $CO_2/H_2$ 하이드레이트를 제조하였으며 특히, 하이드레이트 형성 촉진제인 THF(Tetrahydrofuran)와 TBAB(Tetra-n-butyl ammonium bromide)를 첨가하여 각각 0.5, 1, 3mol% 농도에 따른 상평형 및 속도론 실험을 수행 하였다. 또한 라만 분석을 통하여 $CO_2$ 회수 분리에 대한 연구도 병행하였다. 이러한 연구는 연소전 탈탄소화 기술에서의 $CO_2$ 회수 분리에 대한 핵심 연구임과 동시에 탄소배출권 규제에 실질적인 기여를 할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

  • This paper presents combustion characteristics of LPG-air mixture ignited by the plasma jet in a cylindrical vessel with constant volume, in which our focus is placed on the multi-hole plug configuration. Four types of the plug configuration depending on the number of orifice and the arranged angle are considered, along with two cases of conventional spark ignition for comparison. Not only the flame propagation is photographed at intervals, but the pressure in the combustion chamber is also recorded through the entire combustion process. The results show that the plasma jet ignition enhances the overall combustion rate remarkably in comparison to the spark ignition by generating irregular flame front and penetrating through the unburned mixture. The combustion enhancement rate agrees favorably with the available data, which supports the validity of our experiment. Synthetically estimating, the two-hole sixty-degree plug appears to be the most desirable, in that the maximum pressure as well as the combustion duration is less affected by the sub-energy level than the others. It is also deduced that there may exist an optimal plug configuration capable of rapid combustion for a specific combustion chamber.
