Improment of Diesel Combustion using multiple injection under Cold Start Condition (냉시동 조건에서 디젤 연소 특성 및 연소 개선에 대한 연구)

  • Startability and harmful emissions are the main issues in diesel engine development under cold conditions. The characteristics of combustion with multiple injection were investigated under cold start conditions. For quantitative analysis, the in-chamber pressure profile was measured and combustion visualization using direct imaging was accomplished. With multiple injection, the peak in-chamber pressure and heat release rate were increased compared to single injection. In addition, the period of flame luminosity detection was shortened using multiple injection. Combustion by main injection was improved with an increase in heat released by pilot combustion when the pilot injection quantity was increased. Finally, an increase in injection pressure also showed the possibility of combustion improvement. On the other hand, an increase of in the pilot injection quantity and injection pressure can cause an increase in harmful emissions, such as HC and CO due to wall wetting. Therefore, more sensitive calibration will be needed when applying a multiple injection strategy under cold start conditions.

  • An experimental investigation was conducted to study the combustion characteristics of Polyethylene-GOX hybrid motor. Several regression-rate models based on the length average were compared with the experiment data, postulating to treat the mass-addition rate of fuel almost constant to the mass rate of oxidize flowing into combustor.

  • In order to see the detailed characteristics of model scramjet engine, numerical analysis was performed and compared to the ground test results done by KARI and UQ. Pressure distribution predicted by numerical analysis showed good agreements with test results. Static temperature and pressure distribution explained the mechanisms of cavity flame holder and W-shape cowl which have showed enhancing effects on the supersonic combustion.

  • Ground test of model Scramjet engine was performed with T4 free-piston shock tunnel at University of Queensland, Australia. Test condition of free stream was Mach 7.6 at 31 km altitude. With this condition, variation effects of fuel equivalence ratio, cavity, cowl setting were investigated. In the results, supersonic combustion or thermal choking was observed depending on the amount of fuel. Cavity and W-shape cowl showed early ignition and enhanced mixing respectively.

  • Laser는 공간적 시간적 가간섭성이 매우 우수하며 단색성, 고출력, 단시간 Pulse등의 특성을 지 니고 있어서 각종의 계측, 통신, 가공, 정보처리, 의료, 농학 등의 다방면에 널리 응용되고 있으나 여기서는 Laser유족계에 대하여 설명하였다. 특히 지금까지 측정불가능하였던 연소현상에 대 해서도 LDV를 활용하여 좋은 연구결과를 얻을 수 있었으나 아직도 연소현상에 대한 LDV의 응용은 정치 Burner화염에 한정되어 있으며 앞으로도 많은 발전의 여지가 있는 부분이다. 그 중에서도 밀폐연소실내에서의 화염면전후의 유속계측, 전화화염의 화염전파속도, 연소속도 등에 관한 연구, 그리고 과도적으로 변동하는 유속, 화염온도, 연소실내 압력의 동시계측에 의한 각종 상관관계연구 및 난류화염유속의 계측 등금후 LDV를 이용한 실험의 발전이 매우 기대되는 바이다.

  • 고체 산화물 연료전지(SOFC) 시스템은 스택과 기계적 주변 장치인 MBOP(Mechanical Balance of Plant), 그리고 전기적 주변장치인 EBOP(Electrical Balance of Plant)로 구성되어있다. SOFC는 일반적으로 $700^{\circ}C$ 이상의 고온에서 작동되기 때문에 효율적인 열 이용 및 열 관리가 중요하다. SOFC 시스템의 MBOP에는 상온의 연료가스들을 고온으로 가열하여 스택에 유입 시기키 위한 열교환기 및 촉매연소기 등의 장치들이 필요하며, 효율적인 열관리를 위해서는 고온에서 작동하는 장치들을 한곳에 통합하여 구성하는 것이 필수적이다. 본 연구에서는 SOFC 시스템의 MBOP(Mechanical Balance of Pant) 중 고온부에 해당하는 촉매연소기, 열교환기 및 스택이 통합된 스택 모듈을 제작에 앞서 개념 검증을 위해 열교환기 및 촉매연소기로 이루어진 프로토타입(prototype)의 SOFC 모듈평가 장치를 제작하였다. 열교환기는 Plate형으로 총 6개로 구성되어 있으며, 연료극과 공기극 가스라인에 각각 3개씩 배치하여 스택에 유입되는 연료 및 공기가 촉매연소기에서 나오는 고온의 배가스와 열교환되어 가열되도록 구성하였다. 촉매연소기는 honeycomb 타입의 촉매를 사용하였고, 촉매연소기로 유입되는 연료극 배가스와 공기의 균일혼합과 hot spot을 방지하기 위한 장치를 삽입하여 제작하였다. 제작된 SOFC 모듈평가장치는 시운전을 통해 각 장치의 성능 확인 후 반응면적이 $20{\times}20cm^2$ 인 단전지를 적층하여 연계 운전을 수행하였다.

Flammability Characteristics of Unsaturated Polyesters for FRP (FRP용 불포화폴리에스터 수지들의 연소 특성 연구)

  • The thermal behavior and the flammability characteristics of four different unsaturated polyester resins were studied by performing a series of thermal analysis experiments and laboratory scale fire tests. The results of TGA and DSC reveals that the vinylester type resins have superior thermal performances when compared to the isophthalic type resins. The vinylester type resins formed a network shaped char surface after the thermal decomposition up to 55$0^{\circ}C$. Consequently, the vinylester type resings have shown lower value of burning rate than that of iso type resins. Due to the high level of flammability and toxic smoke emission, the appropriate flame retardant system should be applied to the unsaturated polyester resings.

Combustion Test of a Mach 5 Scramjet Engine Model (마하 5 스크램젯 엔진 모델의 연소 시험)

  • Combustion tests were conducted for a hydrogen-fueled Mach 5 scramjet engine model using a blow-down facility. No fuel and two fuel flow rate cases were tested for two different model configurations. Time history of the wall static pressures inside the model and their time-averaged spatial distribution were used for the analysis of the flow and combustion characteristics. For shorter model, supersonic combustion was occurred for both of the fuel flow rate cases. For longer model, supersonic combustion was occurred for less fuel case, whereas thermal choking and subsonic combustion were occurred for more fuel case. Intake started even for this subsonic combustion case.

Comparative Analysis of Forest Fire Danger Rating on Forest Characteristics of Thinning Area and Non-thinning Area on Forest Fire Burnt Area (산불적지에서 숲 가꾸기 실행 유무와 산불위험성 비교 분석)

  • In this study, 18 plots were selected for particular investigation on Gangneung area and Samcheok area and Uljin area, where forest fire was occurred after thinning in 2007. After selection, a relationship between a damage of forest fire and thinning were compared and analyzed. Many factor such as a damaged species, a thinning or non-thinning, a direction of forest fire head, DBH, a height of tree, a mortality of tree, a leeward scorching ratio, a crown damage ratio, a forest tree standing crop density, a crown base height, a leaving of thinning slash, a location of plot (GPS), elevation, an aspect of slope, an angle of slope, and a topography were measured. Therefore, we analyzed a relationship with forest fire. In the result of this analysis, it was founded that the leeward scorching ratio was 24.7% on thinning area whereas 60.2% on non-thinning area. Subsequently, leeward scorching ratio on thinning area was increased by about 35.5% more than on non-thinning area. In the result of analysis about tree species, a forest of pine tree was more damaged than forest of oak tree. The mortality of tree was increased by about 41.4% on non-thinning area. When stands were close to thinning slashes, these were more damaged by 10${\sim}$20% than other stands for increasing of amount of a combustion material. Especially, as potential of re-ignition increased for more cumulated thinning slash, it will be more important to require a method for a periodical removing or practical utilization of slash.
