Acoustic modal property of the vehicle passenger compartment is a very important factor which dominates vehicle interior noise in the low frequency range. In most real cars, trunk noise often transfers into the passenger compartment since the two cavities are acoustically coupled. This study identifies the major coupling path by examining the variation of the coupled acoustic modal frequencies and modes. An 1/2 size acryl compartment model is designed and manufactured for the measurement and analysis of coupled acoustic modes. Experimental result shows that package tray contributes to the coupling much more than the back seat and hole size of the package tray is an important design factor to control low frequency acoustic modes in the coupled system.

Vortex-induced vibration (VIV) occurs owing to the vortex generated from the back side of the appendages of ships and submarines during operation. Recently, the importance of high-order modes (HOMs) vibration and fatigue failure has become increasingly emphasized by increasing the speed of ships and the size of structures. In addition, predicting the vibration of HOMs is significantly necessary as the VIV becomes stronger in the fast flow speed condition than in the low flow speed condition. This study introduces a methodology according to HOMs hybrid Fluid Structure Interaction (FSI) for predicting the HOMs VIV on the hydrofoils. The HOMs FSI system is verified by comparing the VIV results from the FSI simulation with the experimental results. Finally, the effectiveness of the HOMs FSI is determined by applying the maximum von-Mises stress obtained from the VIV on the hydrofoil to the S-N curve released from Det Norske Veritas (DNV). VIV results from the HOMs FSI include the lock-in characteristics as well as a significant increase of more than 10 times compared with that of low-order modes (LOMs) FSI. In the future works, advanced studies will be required for improving cantilever boundary conditions and the shape of hydrofoils.

This study dealt with the experimental modal analysis of the perforated rectangular plate coupled with fluid. The natural frequencies of the perforated plate and solid plate in air were obtained by the analytical method based on the relation between the reference kinetic and maximum potential energy and compared with the experimental results. Good agreement between the results was found for the natural frequencies of the perforated plate in air. It was empirically found the natural frequencies of the perforated plate coupled with fluid. The transverse vibration modes, in-phase and out-of-phase, were observed alternately in the fluid-coupled system. Additionally, the effect of distance between perforated plate and solid plate on the fluid-coupled natural frequency was investigated.
Elastic wave scattering from an acoustically rigid or soft object is studied and compared with the acoustic wave scattering. The behavior of phases as well as magnitudes of partial waves and their total summation of scattered wave are numerically analyzed and discussed. The effect of mode conversion, which occurs between longitudinal and transversal waves in elastic wave scattering. on the magnitudes and phases of scattered waves is identified.
A model is developed for the calculation of sea surface generated ambient noise in the range dependent ocean environment. The sources are located in the horizontal plane all around and their depths are at the near-surface. The receiver array is located in the range dependent ocean waveguide. One-way coupled mode method is used to model the acoustic propagation between the sources and receiver in the range dependent waveguide, and the cross spectral density matrix of noise is derived. In simulation, noise intensity, beamforming result and coherence function are calculated from the cross spectral density matrix. These results are compared with those in the range independent environment. The modeling result shows the effect of the vertical directionality and asymmetry characteristics of the horizontal plane.

In this paper, a spiral shaped common mode filter(CMF) embedded in a flexible printed circuit board(FPCB) is proposed for a multi-function cable. The CMF embedded in a FPC cable presents a new concept as a multi-function cable by the common mode rejection characteristics without a surface mounted device(SMD) CMF. The embedded CMF has a wideband common mode rejection bandwidth and an enhanced differential mode characteristics compared to conventional CMFs that use a magnetic material such as a ferrite of high loss. The proposed CMF of 3 turn inductors has a common mode rejection bandwidth from 0.4 GHz to 3.12 GHz and has 1.95 dB at 3 GHz, 6.97 dB at 8 GHz improvements of a differential mode insertion loss compared to the commercial LTCC(Low Temperature Co-fire Ceramics) CMFs.

In the previous study, car interior noise was analyzed using structural acoustic mode coupling coefficients and noise response in vehicle compartment model was simulated by the developed special purpose program. As a continued study, this paper presents a practical scheme for the interior noise reduction of a passenger car. Noisy panels on the vehicle compartment wall could be easily identified by the analysis using mode coupling coefficients. Numerical simulation for noise reduction was carried out on a simplified vehicle compartment model by using panel contribution factor and the noise reduction effect was verified by the structural modification test using Steel Skin (damping sheet).

This study identifies the major coupling path by examining the variation of the coupled acoustic modal frequencies and modes. A 1/2-size acryl compartment model is designed and manufactured for the measurement and analysis of coupled acoustic modes. Due to acoustic coupling, a new acoustic mode appears in a low frequency range. This coupling affects only longitudinal acoustic modes of compartment. Experimental result shows that the package tray holes contribute to the coupling much more than the back seat and hole size is an important design factor to control low frequency acoustic modes in the coupled system.
The influences of the coupler consisting of stiffness and mass between neighboring two spans on mode localization are studied theoretically, and the results are confirmed by numerical examples. The mass of the coupler makes a structure sensitive to mode localization especially in higher modes while the stiffness does in all modes. A new type of delocalization phenomenon is observed for the first time in some modes for which mode localization does not occur or is very weak although structural disturbances are severe. A spring-mass system consisting of two substructures and a coupler connecting them is considered in the part of analytical study. As example structures for numerical analysis. simply supported continuous two-span beams with a coupler having a rotational stiffness and a mass moment of inertia on the mid support are considered.
