An Analytical Study on Characteristics of a Diesel Injection System (디젤분사계의 특성에 관한 해석적 연구)

  • It is well-known that the fuel injection system if a diesel engine has taken a more important place in understanding of diesel combustion process with combustion chamber. But a diesel fuel injection system has an assembly of many complex and intricate problems such as the desired rate of injection, secondary injection and injection pump etc., in addition to the atomization for ignition and combustion, the penetration and diestribution for proper utilization of air. The analysis is carried out by simplifing and modeling the injection phenomena and dividing into three parts comprising of fuel injection pump, high pressure pipe and fuel injection nozzle. The purpose of this paper is to describe an analytical simulation of the injection system and to speed up the work of developing injection systems for new engines. The effects of important injection parameters as predicted by the present model are found to be in good agreement with experiment. It can be seen that there is an optimal pipe diameter for maximum quantity injected.

  • 기존의 소형엔진은 캬브레이터 연료 공급 장치를 사용하는 방식으로 연비 및 배기가스 성분이 매우 열악한 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 단점을 극복하기위하여 전자분사장치를 장착하기위한 설계 및 작동기법에 대한 연구를 수행하였다. 소형엔진은 저가의 범용 동력장치로서 전자화를 위하여 최소한의 제어장치 만으로 구성되어야 한다 일반적으로 전자화를 위해서는 크랭크 축과 캠축의 위상각 신호를 통하여 연료분사와 점화를 제어하는 것이 일반적인 통례이나 본 연구에서는 크랭크 축의 CPS센서와 흡기포트의 압력변동을 이용하여 연료분사와 점화를 제어하는 기구와 장치를 설계 개발하였다. 본 장치는 저가의 범용 엔진에 적용이 가능하며 제어반복성에도 우수한 특성을 보였다.

Fuel Injection Strategy for Optimized Performance in Heavy-Duty Diesel Engine (대형 디젤 엔진에서 최적 성능 도출을 위한 연료 분사 전략에 관한 연구)

  • The improvement of emissions, fuel economy, and combustion noise is a primary target in the development of heavy-duty diesel engines. Multiple injection has been introduced as one of the most promising strategies for this goal. In this research, various multiple injection methods were applied to achieve the optimal strategy in terms of emissions, fuel economy, and combustion noise. In the case of one pilot injection, the smoke emission deteriorated, while the NOx emission was reduced. In the case of 2 pilot injections, the NOx and smoke emissions were reduced by 73% and 84%, respectively. In this case, the combustion noise was analyzed with the maximum pressure-rise rate, and the fuel economy was evaluated with the help of the indicated specific fuel consumption. A 15%:15% 2-pilot injection strategy accomplished improvements of 32.9% for NOx, 60.4% for smoke, 1.95% for fuel consumption, and 19.4% for combustion noise compared to the case of single injection. Based on the data, an optimal injection strategy will be developed for a greater operating range in future work.

  • It has been studied the effect of mixture ratio and chamber pressure on variations of discharge coefficients. Combustion experiments of bi-liquid swirl coaxial injectors were conducted at fuel-rich conditions with liquid oxygen and kerosene. Using two types of injectors for the experiments, characteristics of the discharge coefficient have been identified from variations in a diameter of the fuel nozzle and a momentum ratio along with the change of a LOx spray angle. It is concluded that discharge coefficients do not vary because of no change of flame structures from the fact that the fuel swirl chamber is completely filled up with fuel flow.

A Study on the Effect of Fuel Boiling Point on Injection Characteristics at High Fuel Temperature Conditions (연료의 비등점이 고온상태 분사특성에 미치는 영향)

  • An experiment was conducted to study fuel injection characteristics of high boiling point test fuels (HBPTF), which are newly developed with higher boiling points than conventional aviation fuels, for various injection pressures when the fuel was heated to the temperature higher than their boiling points. The injection characteristics with elevating fuel temperature were quantified by the flow coefficient (${\alpha}$) and the cavitation number ($K_c$), and it was found that the trends between ${\alpha}$ and $K_c$ for various fuels were very similar with each other. In addition, compared with a conventional fuel, HBPTFs not only have higher fuel temperatures at which the effect of fuel boiling on the injection initiates, but also are less affected by the fuel boiling inside the injectors at temperatures over the boiling point.

  • Fuel wall film effects power output and cycle deviation by changing the amount of fuel flowing into cylinder in PFI gasoline engines. Reduction of wall film can reduce fuel consumption and improve combustion stability. In this research, the effects of injection strategies including injection pressure and dual injection system is investigated for reducing wall film formation. The CONVERGE software is used for numerical analysis tool and O'Rourke film splash model was used for wall film prediction model. Compared with the reference case wall film decreased with increase of injection pressures, and the film formation reduced when the dual injection system was used.

  • To achieve efficient supersonic combustion within a manageable length, a successful fuel injection scheme must provide rapid mixing between fuel and airstream. In former days, various injection concepts have been investigated. Cavity flow is the open type, that is, length-to-depth ratio L/D=4.8, aft ramp angle is $22.5^{\circ}$. An experimental study on a transverse cross jet injection into a Mach 1.92 supersonic main stream which flows over a cavity was carried out to investigate the effect of the momentum flux ratio(J), the jet interaction characteristics, and the pressure distribution in the combustor and using the primary diagnostics : schlieren visualization and wall static pressure measurements. Fuel penetration height and jet interaction characteristics depend strongly on the momentum flux ratio.

  • 고속회전의 원심력으로 연료를 공급하고 액체연료의 미립화를 초래하는 회전연료분무장치에 대한 분무특성 시험연구를 수행하였다. 특정한 공간상에 존재하는 액적의 특성을 이해하고자 고속회전 연료분사시스템을 설계 제작하였다. 시험장치는 고속으로 회전하는 Spindle, 회전연료노즐, 가압식 물탱크, 아크릴 케이스로 구성하였다. 액적의 크기와 속도를 측정하기 위해 PDPA(Phase Doppler Particle Analyzer)시스템을 사용하였고, ND-Yag Laser를 사용하여 분무를 가시화 하였다. 시험결과 고속회전 연료분사시스템의 분무특성을 확인할 수 있었고, 회전속도는 액적 크기, 속도, 분무각 및 분무패턴 등의 분무특성에 주요한 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다.

  • 본 연구에서는 저자들이 디이젤기관 제조업체에서 디이젤 기관의 성능개선을 효율적으로 수행하기 위하여 기업체 연구소에서 쉽게 적용할 수 있는 시뮬레이션 프로 그램을 개발하는 과정에서 수행된 것이며, 아울러 각 기관 회전수에서의 연료분사 관 내에서의 압력변화와 노즐 니이들 밸브 양정을 측정함으로써 수학적 시뮬레이션 결과 와 실제결과를 비교할 수 있게 하였다. 그 결과, 개발된 시뮬레이션 프로그램은 실 제 연료분사 과정을 충분히 잘 예측할 수 있었으며, 향후 이 프로그램을 이용하여 연 료분사계의 조정에 의한 디이젤기관 성능개선을 효율적으로 수행할 수 있을 것으로 기 대한다.

  • 본 연구은 자동차용 가솔린엔진에 장착되는 인젝터의 연료공급 특성에 대한 것으로, 가솔린 엔진의 전자제어식 포트 연료분사는 분무장치와 흡기포트의 최적화 및 분무특성이 우수해야 엔진의 성능 향상 및 배기가스 저감의 목적을 이룰 수 있다. 4홀과 12홀 인젝터의 장착각 변화와 포트 마스킹의 형상변화에 따른 벽유량을 측정?분석하였고 분무가시화 실험을 통하여 분무성장과정과 분사각, 연료미립화 및 분무도달거리를 분석하였다. 벽류측정 실험을 통하여 벽류는 미립화정도와 흡기유동과 유속에 가장 큰 영향을 받는 것으로 판단되며, 12홀 인젝터 대비 4홀 인젝터는 분무압력에 따라 분무특성의 변화량이 크게 나타났다.
