Application of Computational Fluid Dynamics to Development of Combustion Devices for Liquid-Propellant Rocket Engines (액체추진제 로켓 엔진 연소장치 개발에 있어서의 전산유체역학 응용)

  • This study provides a brief introduction to application of the computational fluid dynamics to domestic development of combustion devices for liquid-propellant rocket engines. Multi-dimensional flow analysis can provide information on the flow uniformity and pressure loss inside the propellent manifold, from which the design selection can be performed during the conceptual design phase. Multi-disciplinary performance analysis of the thurst chamber can also provide key information on performance-related design issues such as fuel film cooling and thermal barrier coating conditions. Further efforts should be made to develop numerical models to resolve the mixing and combustion characteristics of LOX/kerosene near the injection face plate.

  • The aircraft gas turbine engines with the Electronic Engine Controls(EEC) had been developed to save fuel and enhance their performance in the early days, and had employed the health monitoring function in the Full Authority Digital Engine Controls(FADEC) to improve their reliability. This has led to an increasing demand for the certification technology of these controls. The design and certification issues of power supply, aircraft supplied data, failure modes, software verification/validation, and lightning requirements need to be addressed. This paper presents the design considerations and the certification techniques applied to the electronic engine controls. And it is believed that this paper will be basis to establish a requirement in Korean Airworthiness Standard.

  • In this study, a mathematical model for optimal operation of the fusion fuel cycle is developed based on scheduling approach. The fusion fuel cycle consists of a system for storing and supplying deuterium and tritium, and receiving and separating process after the fusion reaction. Except that tritium is a radioactive material, most of these processes consist of catalytic reactions and separation process. For these reasons, it is possible to apply scheduling approach which is also widely utilized to chemical plants to derive the optimal operating scenarios. The developed model determined the optimal regeneration cycle to minimize the amount of tritium inside the vacuum pumps. Based on the characteristics of various device in the fusion reactor, the optimal tritium plant operation scenario is evaluated. The formulated model was applied to the actual tokamak scenario and utilized to analyze the fuel flow and balance of ITER fuel cycle.

Effect of Flow Control Valve Type on the Performance of DME High Pressure Fuel Pump (유량 제어 밸브 방식이 DME 고압 연료 펌프의 성능에 미치는 영향)

  • This experimental work described the effect of flow control valve type on the performance of wobble plate type fuel pump for the stable DME fuel supply. In order to study this, different four types of flow control valves (ITV, SCV, IMV and MPROP) were installed on the wobble plate fuel pump, and fuel flow rate, torque, and temperature variation of pump were investigated under various operating conditions by using pump performance test system. It was revealed that wobble plate type fuel pump worked well with ITV and SCV control valve, and the flow rate and torque of fuel pump was in proportion to the value of valve open duty. The maximum flow rate and torque of fuel pump were achieved around the 50% duty of control valve. Temperature variation at all pump measuring points were under $60^{\circ}C$ which is acceptable.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate spray characteristics of GDI injector that is economic and environment-friendly. Injector characteristics such as penetration length, spray angle and mixture formation were measured using experimental visualization technique. Especially, it has been analyzed that the influences of ambient pressure and injection pressure on penetration length and spray angle. To visualize the spray, a constant volume combustion chamber and fuel supply system have been manufactured. A high-speed camera and LED light source have been applied to obtain spray images. The experimental and visualization result shows that the penetration length is increased as decreasing ambient pressure and/or increasing injection pressure. Also, ambient pressure and injection pressure have minor effect on the spray angle variation.

  • 우드칩을 포함하는 화석연료대비 발열량이 낮은 바이오매스를 가스화를 통하여 활용하는 경우 타르 및 수트를 포함하는 저열량의 합성가스가 생성된다. 이러한 합성가스를 엔진을 통한 발전, 스팀, 수소 및 화학제품 생산으로 활용하기 위해서는 고효율의 타르 정제 및 제거가 필수적이다. 특히 착화가 어렵고 연소온도 및 연소율이 낮으며, 화염구간이 좁은 저열량의 합성가스를 이용하여 스팀을 생산하기 위해서는 많은 문제점으로 인하여 기술 개발이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 하향류식 가스화기를 이용하여 우드칩을 연료로 합성가스를 제조하였으며, 합성가스에 포함되어 있는 타르 및 수트와 같은 미반응 물질을 제거할 수 있는 집진, 세정장치를 설계 및 제작하였다. 특히 고효율 타르의 제거를 위하여 두 종류의 산화촉매를 이용한 합성가스 내 타르의 제거 연구를 수행하였다. Ru 촉매를 이용하는 경우 합성가스 내 타르의 농도를 100ppb 정도까지 저감이 가능하였다. 정제된 합성가스는 유류 혼소 버너를 통하여 보일러 연소실에서 혼합연소되어 30만kcal/h의 열을 공급함으로써 스팀을 생산 하였으며, 생성된 스팀은 블록 건조 시설에서 이용하였다.

Flmae Visualization of the sector combustor (분할연소기의 화염 가시화 연구)

  • In order to see the flame behavior in the gas turbine combustor, combustion test was performed by using sector combustor. Ignition test with torch ignition system was carried out at the various combustor inlet velocity and air fuel ratio. Also, flame blow out limit was measured by changing fuel flow rate with fixed air mass flow rate. In the test results, stable ignition is possible at air excess ratio of 6 and this limit is gradually increased with combustor inlet air velocity. The minimum blow out limit is about 4 at 40 m/s of combustor inlet velocity. This blow out limit is also increased up to about 10 with increasing combustor inlet velocity.

  • 철도 선진국을 중심으로 신재생에너지의 철도 시스템 적용이 가속화 되고 있고, 국내에서도 철도 시스템에 신재생에너지를 적용하려는 시도가 이루어지고 있다. 이미 상당수의 신규 역사가 BIPV(building integrated photovoltaic) 시스템을 적용하고 있고, 단순히 유휴지를 이용한 풍력 발전 시스템을 넘어서 차량의 주행풍을 이용하거나 차량 외부에 풍력 발전기를 설치하는 등의 다양한 시도들이 이루어지고 있다. 수소 에너지를 연료로 하는 연로전지의 경우 기존 전기철도의 대체 연료로서 주목을 받으며 많은 연구가 이루어졌고 현재는 시험 운전 단계에 이르러 있다. 지열의 경우에는 벌써 오래전부터 승강장 또는 선로의 해빙장치의 에너지원으로 사용 되고 있다. 이밖에 수력 및 해양 에너지의 경우 전철전력의 청정 에너지 공급원으로 보고되고 있으며, 차량이나 역사 내에서 발생하는 운동 에너지를 수확하여 전기 에너지로 변환하는 에너지 하베스팅 기술이 새로운 신재생에너지 기술로서 많은 관심을 받고 있다. 에너지 문제와 온실가스 감축 의무 부담이 날로 가중되는 현 시점에서 신재생에너지의 전기철도 시스템 적용은 이 같은 문제를 해결할 수 있는 확실한 대안이 될 것이다. 본 논문에서는 국내외 전기철도 시스템의 신재생에너지 적용 기술과 적용 방안에 대해 고찰한다.

  • It is very important to improve the combustion efficiency and reduce pollutant emission in order to save energy and environment. Especially, thermal NOx has been reduced through monitoring burner flame, because the thermal NOx is strongly related to flame characteristics. In this work, a flame-monitoring system was fabricated with photodiode, optical fiber, interference filter and data acquisition system, and it was applied to a lab-scale methane combustion system and a testing facility. Flame intensity and mean frequency increased with increasing turbulent intensity and fuel loading. The sensor signal from flame fluctuations differed from that without flame, which showed the availability af the flame scanner to find the presence of flame. NOx emissions increased with flame intensity.

  • In the dissertation, a power conversion system for fuel cell is composed of a PWM inverter with LC filter in order to convert fuel cell voltage to a single phase 220[V]. In addition, new insulated DC-DC converters are proposed in order that fuel cell voltage is boosted to 380[V]. In this paper, it requires smaller components than existing converters, which makes easy control. The proposed DC-DC converter controls output power by the adjustment of phase-shift width using switch $S_5\;and\;S_6$ in the secondary switch which provides 93-97[%] efficiency in the wide range of output voltage. Fuel cell simulator is implemented to show similar output characteristics to actual fuel cell. Appropriate dead time td enables soft switching to the range where the peak value of excitation current in a high frequency transformer is in accordance with current in the primary circuit. Moreover, appropriate setting to serial inductance La reduces communication loss arisen at light-load generator and serge voltage arisen at a secondary switch and serial diode. Finally, TMS320C31 board and EPLD using PWM switching technique to act a single phase full-bridge inverter which is planed to make alternating current suitable for household
