A Study of the DI Diesel Engine Using Light Diesel-Water Emulsified Fuel with Ultrasonic Apparatus - Effect of Water Content on Engine Performance and Exhaust Gas Characteristics - (초음파장치를 이용한 경유-물 유화연료 사용 디젤엔진에 관한 연구 -함수율이 기관성능 및 배기배출물 특성에 미치는 영향-)

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the effects light diesel-water emulsified fuel on performance and exhaust emissions of the compression ignition engine. The experimental results of light diesel-water emulsified fuel operation with new type ultrasonic emulsification apparatus as compared with light diesel operation are very positive; maximum 28% reduction of SFC (in the case of 30% of water content), maximum 60% reduction of smoke (in the case of 30% of water content), maximum 79% reduction of CO emission (in the case of 30% of water content). However, comparing light diesel-water emulsified fuel and light diesel in the same engine under the same operating conditions, power and torque were lower in the case of emulsified fuel. In view of the results for the above mentioned, the mixing of water into light diesel in the form of emulsification proved to be the best means for reduction of specific fuel consumption and exhaust emissions of C.I. engines.

Operational Characteristics of Methanol Reformer for the Phosphoric Acid Fuel Cell System (인산형 연료전지용 메탄올 연료개질기의 운전 특성)

  • A methanol reformer was designed and fabricated using a CuO-ZnO low temperature shift catalyst, and its operation characteristics have been studied for the phosphoric acid fuel cell (PAFC) power generation system. The type of reactor was annular Methanol was consumed both for heating and for reforming fuel. Contents of carbon monoxide produced from the reformer increased as the reaction temperatures increased, but decreased as the mole ratios of water to methanol(H$_2$O/CH$_3$OH) increased. At steady state operating conditional, temperature profile of the catalytic reactor of the reformer was well coincide with the model equation, and it took 50 minutes from start to the rated condition of the reformer. When the system was operated at 4/4 and 1/4 of load, thermal efficiencies of the system were 72.3% and 77%, respectively. When the PAFC system was operated with reformed gas in the range of 62 V-37.6 V and 0-147 A, the trend of I-V curve showed a typical fuel tell characteristic. At steady state condition, the flow rates of reforming and combustion methanol were 88.1 mol/h and 50.1 mol/h, respectively.

A Study of Spray Characteristics of the Rotating Fuel Nozzle with Orifice Diameters (회전연료노즐의 오리피스직경에 따른 분사특성연구)

  • An experimental study was performed to understand spray characteristics of the V type rotating fuel nozzle with orifice diameters by using high speed rotational system. The experimental apparatus consist of a high speed rotational system, fuel injection system and acrylic case. The droplet size and velocity were measured by PDPA(Phase Doppler Particle Analyzer) and spray was visualized by using Nd-Yag laser-based flash photography. From the test results, droplet size is reduced with increasing orifice diameter up to the critical value. When increasing orifice diameter over than this critical value, droplet size is not decreased with increasing the orifice diameter. This is due to the irregular distribution of the liquid sheet around the inner surface of injection orifice.

  • In addition to the stack that directly generates electricity by the reaction of hydrogen and oxygen, the fuel cell power generation system has a reformer that generates hydrogen from various fuels such as methanol and natural gas. It also consists of a power converter that converts the DC voltage generated in the stack into a stable AC voltage. The fuel cell output of such a system is direct current, and in order to be used at home, an inverter device that converts it into alternating current through a power converter is required. In addition, a DC-DC step-up converter is used to boost the fuel cell voltage to about 30~70V, which is the inverter operating voltage, to about 380V. The DC-DC step-up converter is a DC voltage variable device that exists between the fuel cell output and the inverter. Accordingly, since a constant output voltage of the converter is generated in response to a change in the output voltage of the fuel cell, the inverter can receive constant power regardless of the voltage change of the fuel cell. Therefore, in this paper, we discuss the detailed hardware design of the full-bridge converter, which is the main power source of the inverter that receives the fuel cell output voltage (30~70V) as an input and is applied to the grid among the members of the fuel cell power generation system.

산소농도 측정을 위한 $UO_{2}$ 펠릿 공기산화로 장치의 갈바닉 센서와 지르코니움 센서의 특성 연구

  • ACP(Advanced Spent Fuel Conditioning Process)의 금속전환로에 $U_{3}O_{8}$을 공급하기 위하여 20 kgHM/batch의 $UO_{2}$ 펠릿(pellets)을 처리할 수 있는 공기산화로가 개발되고 있다. 그림 1은 산소농도 조절이 가능한 공기산화로이다. 공기산화로 이전의 공정인 슬리팅 장치에서 탈피복된 $UO_{2}$ 펠릿은 공기산화로로 운반되고, $500^{\circ}C$온도에서 공기를 공급하여 일정한 입도범위의 균질한 $U_{3}O_{8}$을 만든다. 그리고 다음공정의 금속전환장치로 이동된다. 본 논문에서는 모의연료의 산화에 대한 정확한 산소농도를 측정하고자 한다. 이를 위해서 갈바닉 센서와 지르코니움 센서가 사용되었고, 그 특성이 비교되었다. 14종의 금속 산화물이 혼합된 모의연료를 제조하여 산화실험이 수행되었으며, 시간변화에 따라 산소농도가 측정되었다. 산소농도 컨트롤러와 산소 센서를 사용한 공기산화로는 산소조절기에 의해 산소농도 100%까지 측정될 수 있다. 그림 2는 공기산화로의 산소농도를 조절할 수 있는 산소농도 측정시스템이다. 유량조절기(Mass Flow Controller)를 사용하여 질소와 산소의 혼합비를 변화시킬 수 있다. 또한 산소농도 측정시스템은 측정된 산소농도 값을 이용하여 $UO_{2}$의 산화시간을 계산하기 위하여 제작하였다. 산화시간 계산방법은 다음과 같다. 산소와 질소의 가스는 각각 40 L의 압력 봄베에 의해서 산소농도를 조절할 수 있는 공기산화로의 산소농도 측정시스템 안으로 유입된다. 유입된 산소와 질소의 배합은 컨트롤시스템 안에 있는 산소 유량조절기와 질소 유량 조절기를 사용하여 조절하며, 일정하게 혼합된 산소농도는 장치의 입구와 출구에서 산소 센서에 의해서 측정된다. 투입된 $UO_{2}$ 펠릿이 $500^{\circ}C$에서 반응하면서 공기산화로의 내부에 있는 산소농도가 감소된다. 이때 초기에 같았던 입력과 출력 농도가 시간의 흐름에 따라 감소되며, 펠릿이 완전히 산화됨과 동시에 출력 산소농도가 입력농도와 다시 같아질 때까지 소요된 구간이 산화시간이 된다.

  • A gas fueling system composed of a gas reservoir, an on-off valve, and a gas transferring tube, which is the simplest construction for the pre-programmed gas puffing, was simulated by numerically solving the time-dependent one-dimensional gas flow equation. The purpose of the simulation is to establish the relationship between the gas flow pattern (the elapsed time to the maximum flow, the maximum flow rate, the gas pulse duration) and the system parameters (the filling pressure and the volume of the gas reservoir, and the length and the diameter of the gas transferring tube).

  • 다이어프램은 고정된 주파수의 전압을 이용하여 저전력으로 고압력의 공기를 공급하는 장치로 연료전지 및 산업용 공기 공급장치로 사용되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 다이어프램의 공기유량 및 유압을 저소음 및 저진동으로 제어하기 위해서 인버터를 이용한 가변주파수의 전류제어를 수행하였다. 제안된 다이어프램의 공기압 제어 방식은 지령 압력을 추종하기 위한 최대주파수 운전 방식으로, 토출압력이 만족하는 최대 주파수의 전류제어를 수행한다. 제안된 방식을 실험을 통하여 검증하였다.

The quality improvement study on the crack of heat exchanger lubricating oil port in military aircraft (군용항공기 열교환기 윤활유 유입포트 균열개선 연구)

  • The fuel oil/heat exchanger installed in military aircraft is a device that cools the lubricant oil supplied to other devices, such as an AMAD, and a hydraulic pump using the low temperature of the fuel is cracked at the AMAD lubricant inlet port. If a crack in the heat exchanger occurs, the lubricant oil supplied to other equipment is not cooled. Therefore, the flight can no longer be performed. In this study, non-destructive inspection and microscopic examination of the fracture surface of the oil port were performed to analyze the crack tendency. The oil pipe connected to the oil port is a titanium pipe, which is fastened with over torque and has been identified as the leading cause of heat exchanger oil port cracks. In addition, it was verified as the main reason for cracking by finite element analysis. The material and diameter of the pipe were changed to improve this defect, and the applied torque was adjusted. In addition, the bending value of the pipe was adjusted to minimize the fatigue accumulation due to pulsating pressure. As a result, no cracks occurred on the heat exchanger via the ground test after the installation of an improved pipe under the same conditions.

Implementation of a DSP Based Fuel Cell Hardware Simulator (DSP기반 연료전지 하드웨어 시뮬레이터 구현)

  • Fuel cell generators as the distributed generation system with a few hundred watt$\sim$a few hundred kilowatt capacity, can supply the high quality electric power to user as compared with conventional large scale power plants. In this paper, PEMFC(polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell) generator as micro-source is modelled by using PSIM simulation software and DSP based fuel cell hardware simulator based on the PSIM simulation model is implemented. The relation of fuel cell voltage and current(V-I curve) is linearized by first order function on the ohmic area in voltage-current curve of fuel cell. The implemented system is composed of a PEMFC hardware simulator, an isolated full bridge dc boost converter, and a 60[Hz] voltage source PWM inverter. The voltage-current-power(V-I-P) characteristics of the implemented fuel cell hardware simulator are verified in load variation and transient state and the 60[Hz] output voltage sinusoidal waveform of the PWM inverter is investigated under the resistance load and nonlinear diode load.
