Biotope Type Classification based on the Vegetation Community in Built-up Area (시가화지역 식물군집 특성에 기초한 비오톱 유형분류)

  • This study aims to classify the biotope types based on the vegetation community in built-up areas by different land use and to map the plant communities. By classifying biotopes according to a taxonomic system, the characteristics of a biological community can be well-represented. The biotope classification indexes for the target area include human behavioral factors such as land use intensity, land-use patterns and land-cover types. The type classification was divided into four hierarchic ranks starting with Biotope Class, next by Biotope Group and Biotope Type and lastly by Biotope Sub-Type. The Biotope Class was first divided into two areas: the areas improved by humans and the areas unimproved by humans. The improved areas were again divided into permeable and non-permeable regions on the Biotope Group level. In the Biotope Type level, permeable paving areas were divided into areas with wide gap pavers and those with narrow gap pavers. The differential species of each biotope type are Lindera glauca, Conyza canadensis, Mazus pumilus, Vicia tetrasperma, Crepidiastrum sonchifolium, Zoysis japonica, Potentilla supina and Festuca arundinacea. The results of this study suggest that the biotope classification methodology, using a subjective phytosociological approach, is a useful and valuable tool and the results also suggest the possibility of applying more objective and scientific methods in mapping and classifying various environments.

A Comparative Study of the Atmospheric Boundary Layer Type in the Local Data Assimilation and Prediction System using the Data of Boseong Standard Weather Observatory (보성 표준기상관측소자료를 활용한 국지예보모델 대기경계층 유형 비교 연구)

  • Different physical processes, according to the atmospheric boundary layer types, were used in the Local Data Assimilation and Prediction System (LDAPS) of the Unified Model (UM) used by the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA). Therefore, it is important to verify the atmospheric boundary layer types in the numerical model to improve the accuracy of the models performance. In this study, the atmospheric boundary layer types were verified using observational data. To classify the atmospheric boundary layer types, summer intensive observation data from radiosonde, flux observation instruments, Doppler wind Light Detection and Ranging(LIDAR) and ceilometer were used. A total number of 201 observation data points were analyzed over the course 61 days from June 18 to August 17, 2019. The most frequent types of differences between LDAPS and observed data were type 1 in LDAPS and type 2 in observed(each 53 times). And type 3 difference was observed in LDAPS and type 5 and 6 were observed 24 and 15 times, respectively. It was because of the simulation performance of the Cloud Physics such as that associated with the simulation of decoupled stratocumulus and cumulus cloud. Therefore, to improve the numerical model, cloud physics aspects should be considered in the atmospheric boundary layer type classification.

  • This study pointed out that few studies focuses on potential business manpower in the food-service industry while the food-service industry is quickly growing in the field of business. In this respect, it classified the career aptitudes of potential business manpower into Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional according to Holland's(1997) career aptitudes. Then, Logistic Regression Analysis was implemented to determine how each career aptitude influences potential business manpower's determination to open a business. As a result, the aptitudes were arranged in the following order, starting with the one contributing to the strongest determination: Enterprising>Realistic>Social>Artistic>Investigative>Conventional. According to Holland's career aptitude classification, people with enterprising characters are generally entrepreneurs, politicians, and administrators. This study has also proved that enterprising people have the strongest determination to start business.

A Study on the Notes Analysis of KDC 5th Edition (KDC 제5판의 주기분석에 관한 연구)

  • The notes of the classification system are to improve the accuracy and consistency of classification by providing useful information on classification numbers and items. Even though, several notes are used in KDC, they are not enough to keep up with rapidly developing and expanding knowledge of nowadays. The purpose of this study is to suggest appropriate types and improvements of the notes in KDC 5th edition. In order to achieve these purposes, transition of notes in KDC was analyzed. Notes of DDC 23rd edition, NDC new 9th edition, and KDC 5th edition were also analyzed. Based upon these comparison and analysis, problem and improvement of notes in KDC were suggested.

  • This paper is to categorize the innovation patterns of advanced materials technologies Many existing taxonomies of innovation pattern consider the whole of industries and the system sector rather than a specific sector. On the basis of the interactions between materials sector and user sectors, this paper suggests four innovation patterns, push-type material innovation, needs-type materials innovation, push-type process innovation and needs-type process innovation. This categorization of innovation pattern not only provides a new approach to the analysis of materials technology innovation processes but also has many useful implications for policymaking. Suggestions for policymakers of the materials technology are presented.

Stream Type Classification and 2-Dimensional Hydraulic Characteristics and Bed Change in Anseongcheon Streams and Tributaries (안성천 중소하천의 하천분류 및 2차원 수리특성, 하상변동 모의)

  • This study tries to find a streambed scouring and sedimentation characteristics through the Rosgen(1994)'s stream classification system while experiencing several flood events. The Jinwee and Osan streams, the tributaries of Anseongcheon were selected. The streams showed type C or type E. By the classification results, two Type C tributaries one Type C stream and one Type E tributary were selected. For the four selected stream reaches, the analysis of streambed change was implemented by using numerical model CCHE2D (Center for Computational Hydroscience and Engineering). To prepare the inlet boundary conditions of each stream, the WMS (Watershed Modeling System) HEC-1 was used and the streamflows of 50, 80, and 100-year return period were generated and the outlet boundary was set to an open boundary condition. The simulation results showed that when the flood pulse periodically the streambed changes also appears regularly. The results can be used to acquire the basic data for stream restoration.

Development of a Model to Classify Wildfire Severity Based on Machine Learning Techniques (머신러닝 기반 대형산불피해지의 산불피해유형 분류 모델 개발)

  • This study aimed to develop a model for the classification of wildfire severity in an area of 1,337 ha in Hongseong-gun, Chungcheongnam-do, that was affected by fires in 2023. Various models were generated using maximum likelihood classification (MLC), random forest (RF), and support vector machine (SVM) methods, and the best one was selected based on classification performance. Wildfire severity was classified into crown fire, heat damage, and surface fire. Field surveys provided essential ground truth data, and imagery derived from a Sentinel-2A Multi-Spectral Instrument was used as input data. Model accuracy was verified by comparing the outputs with an existing 10×10m high-resolution wildfire severity map, using the Overall Accuracy (OA), Cohen's Kappa (Kappa), User Accuracy (UA), and Producer Accuracy values. Among the tested models, the MLC-based model showed the highest performance (OA: 73.4%, Kappa: 0.54), followed by those based on RF (OA: 71.9%, Kappa: 0.50), non-linear kernel SVM (OA: 67.0%, Kappa: 0.45), and linear kernel SVM (OA: 65.3%, Kappa: 0.43). The models' classification performance varied by damage type, with lower accuracy being observed for heat damage (PA: 20~55%, UA: 30~40%) compared to crown fire (PA: 70~85%, UA: 55~80%) and surface fire (PA: 65~85%, UA: 80~90%). In conclusion, the MLC-based model showed the best overall performance in classifying wildfire severity. This approach is expected to assist in future efforts aiming to classify wildfire damage and estimate greenhouse gas emissions derived from burned areas.

Classification and Maintenance of Geographical Names (지명의 유형 분류와 관리 방안)

  • Geographical name is not only a spoken or written language that has been constructed as a linguistic element, but it is also a geographical phenomenon and a cultural element. Based upon this consciousness, the purpose of this paper is to examine current classification and management systems of the geographical names in Korea and to propose a new alternative classification and maintenance of the geographical names. In particular, the paper suggests three categories for the type classification of the geographical names: morpheme, linguistic change, and contestation types. In turn, this paper investigates the index of the geographical names contained in THE NATIONAL ATLAS OF KOREA (2007) on the basis of the preceding classification types in order to unveil the practical problems and limitations of the current classification articulated in the national atlas. This paper also proposes a new classification of the geographical naming that reflects the divisions of front and back morpheme of geographical names. Finally, from the discussions with the reinforcement of National Committee on Geographical Names, this paper invokes administrative and institutional protection and systematical management of the contesting and unofficial small scaled geographical names that have been set apart from the current geographical name standardization.

Classification of Character Types in Korean Entertainment Program (한국 방송 프로그램의 예능 캐릭터 유형 분류 연구)

  • Korean entertainment programs have attempted to change formats to reflect the viewers' preference for the unexpected progress of narrative. Casts have used their public identity and it contributes to strengthen the realism by providing their realistic reactions. This study is to advance understanding of entertainment characters' characteristic by classifying character types and analyzing main types that have been appeared repeatedly. This study suggests securing diversity of entertainment characters by noticing character types appearing at low frequency in classification.

A Experimental Study on the Development of a Book Recommendation System Using Automatic Classification, Based on the Personality Type (자동분류기반 성격 유형별 도서추천시스템 개발을 위한 실험적 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop an automatic classification system for recommending appropriate books of 9 enneagram personality types, using book information data reviewed by librarians. Data used for this study are book review of 501 recommended titles for children and young adults from National Library for Children and Young Adults. This study is implemented on the assumption that most people prefer different types of books, depending on their preference or personality type. Performance test for two different types of machine learning models, nonlinear kernel and linear kernel, composed of 360 clustering models with 6 different types of index term weighting and feature selections, and 10 feature selection critical mass were experimented. It is appeared that LIBLINEAR has better performance than that of LibSVM(RBF kernel). Although the performance of the developed system in this study is relatively below expectations, and the high level of difficulty in personality type base classification take into consideration, it is meaningful as a result of early stage of the experiment.
