  • Sound absorption capability and anatomical features of kagikazura (Uncaria rhynchophylla) and larch (lalix kaemferi) wood were estimated. Sound absorption coefficients had been measured by the two microphone transfer function method and anatomical features of kagikazura wood examined by SEM observation. The sound absorption coefficients of Uncaria rhynchophylla was higher than lalix kaemferi. Especially, in the frequency range of 1 to 4KHz, sound absorption coefficients of kagikazura was about 2~3 times higher than those of lalix kaemferi. Abundant and big vessel observed on the cross sectional surface of kagikazura wood and simple perforation plate observed on the longitudinal surface. It was surmised that the abundant big vessel element and simple perforation plate behaved as a sound absorbing pore.

  • To use of the precise scientific name of the genus Hypomesus from Korea, taxonomic revison of the genus Hypomesus was studied based on the specimens collected at 11 sites of the reservoirs and estuaries from Korea. The most population of the Hypomesus nipponensis was taken the pneumatic duct that connected between the anterior part of swim bladder and stomach. The number of pyroric caeca of the specimens was zero to five. The number of chromatophore at isthmus was fifty to one hundred. And authors were confirmed with the membrane structure across the nasal cavity. Then, we think that the scientific name of the pond-smelt at Korea is Hypomesus nipponensis by these characters. The Yangyang population that have the sixty-two to sixty-three of vertebrae, was confirmed with H. japonicus.

  • The Traffic controller currently used in Korea is a switch control system that directly transfers 220V of high voltage to traffic lights one to one. This method requires a lot of cables, and there are concerns about electric shock. Accordingly, Korea Road Traffic Authority added the digital communication signal controller standard using digital communication method to the standard specification of the communication signal controller of the National Police Agency. Based on these specifications, this paper intended to develop digital communication call controllers. In addition, it was verified that even if the digital communication signal controller and analogue communication call controller were mixed, they could operate in the signal control system currently in operation.

  • Molar-incisor malformation (MIM) is a new type of root anomaly reported recently. The characteristics of MIM are dysplastic root formations, constriction of pulp chambers and presence of calcified matrices at the level of cementoenamel junction in permanent first molars and primary second molars. In some cases, permanent maxillary incisors are also affected. The permanent first molars of the patient in this case report were affected with MIM. Generalized pulp stones were observed in overall primary dentition. Micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) imaging and scanning electron microscope-energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer analysis were performed on the extracted mandibular first molar and maxillary primary second molar of the patient. Micro-CT images revealed the discontinuity of enamel directly connected to an accessory canal of the root.

  • This study suggests a conceptualization model of 'cultural inclusiveness' organically connected to social inclusiveness, by expanding the implications of urban inclusiveness to the domain and relationship. Based on the process of necessity of relation, connection of space, and execution of act, the cultural inclusiveness could be connected to the formation of organic/learning relation, the creation of openness focusing on public space, and the practice of diverse subjects. Concretely, the concept of cultural inclusiveness is applied to the case of 'Hongdae-ap'. The recent Hongdae-ap is showing the value of coexistence such as the establishment of environment that could protect the diversity of individual subjects and groups(artists, residents, government officials, students, cultural activists, citizens, tourists, and etc.), the formation of public space such as 'Hongdae-up playground', 'pedestrian-friendly street', and 'Gyeongui-Line book street', social network service & horizontal network, and access.

  • This paper proposes a decision support system to recognizing retinal diseases. This paper uses a smartphone platform and cloud computing as the base of the system. A microscopic lens is attached int' the smartphone camera to capture the user retinal image for recognizing the user's retinal condition. An application is assembled in computer and then installed in to the smartphone. The application role is to connect between the system in smartphone and system in cloud, the application will send the retinal image to the cloud system to be classified. The paper uses OCFE (optimized classifier based on feature elimination) algorithm as the classifier. The retinal image is trained using combination of two ophthalmology databases DIARETDB1 v2.1 and STARE. Therefore, this system average accuracy is 88%, while the average error rate is 12%.

  • Most roads in Korea are constructed through a riverside or among the mountains due to geographical characteristics, and composed of various connection roads and complex networks, which makes it susceptible to a fog, rainfall and snowfall and causes serious negligent accidents due to misperception of network while driving. This study amis at securing original technology to provide traffic information, utilizing the road surface by grafting LED and optical technology highly recognized in terms of energy efficiency recently onto ITS, thereby developing next-generation ITS service. To support the research development, H/W was developed and field test was conducted. In addition, the customer satisfaction survey towards equipment, an end product of this research development was also carried out to find out what it means to customers potentially.

  • The effects of fiber composition factors of 14 geotextiles which are thickness, porosity, fiber length and diameter etc. on the transmissivity were examined and in-plane permeability of geotextiles under thickness change, transmissivity, confined load were analyzed by the constitutive equations. And the effects of laminar structure on the permittivity of laminar geotextile composites which were manufactured with fiber packing densities were assessed. Transmissivities were increased with thickness of geotextiles and in-plane permeability coefficients were increased with porosity and fiber diameter. The effects of porosity were decreased with normal stress and slightly increased with fiber length. Transmissivities were increased with fiber diameter and showed same tendensy for the same fiber length. Permittivities of laminar geotextile composites were influenced by the waterhead loss in the inner interface and the connection shape of these composites to water path was interpreted as bell mouth type or soft flux pipe type.

  • Four cases of human infection by Echinochasmus japonicus (Trematoda; Echinostomatidae) were proven by the recovery of adult worms after a treatment with praziquantel (10mg/kg in single dose) and purgation in February 1984 in Korea. The patients were 3 middle-aged men and 1 elderly woman residing in a riverside village of Kangjin-gun (Tamjin river), Jeonranam-do, an ever-known endemic area of metagonimiasis. The treatment revealed numerous M. yokogawai worms together with 1-43 (total 54) specimens of E. japonicus and/or a few number of other kinds of trematodes or cestodes. The patients had gastrointestinal troubles such as indigestion and abdominal discomfort, probably due to these fluke infections. They have been eating some raw flesh of fresh water fishes such as cyprinoid ones or sweet fish caught from the river. This is the first record of human E. japonicus infection in the literature.

  • The anatomy and ultrastructure of the digestive diverticulum of Tegillarca granosa were described using light and electron microscopy. The digestive diverticulum was situated on the gonad and connected to stomach by a primary duct. Digestive diverticulum is composed of numerous digestive tubules. The epithelial layer of digestive tubule, which is simple, is composed of basophilic cells and digestive cells. Basophilic cells are columnar in shape, and the electron density is higher than that of the digestive cell. The cytoplasm has a well-developed endoplasmic reticulum, tubular mitochondria, Golgi complex and of membrane-bounded granules of high electron density. Digestive cells were classified into three types. According to cell shape, electron density and cell organelles. However, three types of epithelia was same that striated border was observed in free surface and lysosome was observed in cytoplasm. The results of this study suggest that basophilic cells and digestive cells in the digestive tubule are specialized in the extracellular and intracellular digestions, respectively.
