  • When back analysis is used for the assessment of an operating subsea tunnel safety in various measurement information such as stress, water pressure and tunnel lining and ground stiffness degradation, the reliable results within tolerable error rate can be obtained. By utilizing a commercial geotechnical analysis program FLAC3D, back analysis can be performed with a DEA which has already been successfully validated in previous studies. However, relative more time-consumption is the drawback of this approach. For this reason, this study introduced beam-spring model-based on FEM solver which uses less analysis time relatively. Beam-spring program capable of structural analysis of a circular tunnel section was developed by using Python language and combined with the built-DEA. From the measurement datum, expected to estimate the stability of an operation tunnel close to real-time.

  • If a back analysis is used in various measurement information for the estimation of an operating subsea tunnel safety, it is possible to obtain the results within efficient error rate. With such a commercial geotechnical analysis program as FLAC3D, back analysis is performed with a DEA which was validated in previous studies. However, there is a problem that is relatively a time-consuming analysis. For this reason, beam-spring model-based FEM solver which takes shorter relative analysis time, was developed by Python language, and then combined with the built-DEA. In order to consider the assessment of safety of an operation tunnel near real-time, a program for longitudinal direction tunnel was developed due to its relative easy development for analysis solver engine.

  • The purpose of this research is to develop a full-spectral fatigue analysis program, based on rigid-body ship motion analysis, in order to perform a full-spectral fatigue analysis that considers hydroelasticity effects. To gain credibility, fatigue analysis results of two ship types, performed by the developed program, were compared with those of a classification society, and it was found that both are identical. Full-spectral fatigue analysis considering hydroelasticity effects would be developed in further studies by including flexible-body ship motion analysis results and by supplementing the developed program with a wide-band fatigue damage model.

  • The behaviors of a diaphragm wall and a contiguous pile wall such as CIP(Case-in-place pile) and SCW(Soil-cement wall), applied to the top-down construction method, were analyzed using the SUNEX program, which is widely used to design earth retaining walls. Four types of earth pressures, as described by Rankine (1857), Terzaghi and Peck (1967), Tchbotarioff (1973), and Hong and Yun (1995a), were applied to the analysis program to predict the lateral displacement of walls. The results show that the displacements of an earth retaining walls vary with the applied earth pressure. The predicted lateral displacement based on Hong & Yun's (1995a) earth pressure is similar to the measured displacement. Therefore, the actual lateral displacement of an earth retaining wall, as applied to top-down construction method, can be accurately predicted by using an analysis program considering Hong and Yun's (1995a) earth pressure.

  • This study is aimed to develop the dynamic analysis technique for a floating aquaculture in a shallow water region under the harsh sea condition. In case of the installation region to transform from a coastal area to the offshore area, the influence of sea bed with sea waves on the mooring lines was announced to be significant by other authors. In this study, the numerical tool was developed to solve dynamic behavior of the floating barge coupled with mooring lines in a shallow zone of the sea considering the influence of sea bed on the floating system.

  • In order to accelerate the rate of consolidation settlement and to gain a required shear strength for a given soft clay deposit, the preloadina technique combined with a vertical drainage system has been widely applied. Even if a sophisticated numerical analysis technique is applied to solve the consolidation behavior of drainage-installed soft deposits, the actual field behavior is often different from the behavior predicted in the design state due to several uncertainties involved in soil properties, numerical modelling, and measuring system. In this paper, two back-analysis schemes such hs simplex and BFGS methods have been implemented in an a Bisymmetric consolidation program, AXICON which considers the variation of compressibility and permeability during the consolidation process. Utilizing the program, one might be able to appropriately predict the subsequent consolidation behavior from the measured data in an early stage of consolidation of drainage-installed soft deposits.

  • Observed field behaviors are frequently different from the behaviors predicted in the design state due to several uncertainties involved in soil properties, numerical modeling, and error of measuring system even though a sophisticated numerical analysis technique is applied to solve the consolidation behavior of drainage-installed soft deposits. In this study, genetic algorithms are applied to back-analyze the soil properties using the observed behavior of soft clay deposit composed of multi layers that shows complex consolidation characteristics. Utilizing the program, one might be able to appropriately predict the subsequent consolidation behavior from the measured data in an early stage of consolidation of multi layered soft deposits. Example analyses for drainage-installed multi-layered soft deposits are performed to examine the applicability of proposed back-analysis method.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to develop a system that enables quick on-site response using real-time decision-making by sharing the results of measurement and management performed in the field for safe temporary construction. Method: It is possible to take preemptive responses during construction by identifying the safety factors of construction conditions from measurement results and determining the risk factors such as soil properties and variability of climate change that can occur during construction by simultaneously using the back analysis method reflected in the measurement system and structural review. Result: we developed a back analysis algorithm of the SUNEX program to cope with the discrepancies between the design results and measured results due to inconsistency between site conditions and design properties, unexpected loads, and outdoor environment. The process of matching the measurement result with the analysis result can be confirmed in the safety management system. Conclusion: Gateway was used to communicate with real-time measurement results and safety management system program. It was made possible to preemptively respond to risk factors that may occur in the field.

  • Purpose: In this study, the safety management method supplementing the field displacement prediction management technique was performed using the numerical analysis. Method: The analysis was performed using MIDAS GTS / NX program based on the finite element method (FEM). Approximating the displacement data and displacement trend as close as possible to the collapse site, the collapse prevention method was applied after estimating the cause of collapse. Result: The cause of the collapse was estimated by soil parametar, one of the results obtained by performing the Back-analysis. As a result, it was confirmed that the free length of the anchor was insufficient, and the free length of the anchor was changed by the collapse prevention method, and the displacement was significantly reduced. Conclusion: If Back-analysis technique is used in field management, estimating the cause of collapse and suggesting a reasonable collapse prevention measure will help to reduce collase.
