  • In the 21st century, there was a boom of research in the field of Taiwanese historical narrative on Netherland's colonial rule of Taiwan in the 17th century. Such trend expanded to the literature field, and creations were made using the forgotten historical material. Representative works are 《婆 娑之島》 and 《福爾摩沙三族記》, written by Ping Lu and Chen Yao-chang. By analyzing these texts, this study studies what kind of a message the author presents through the literary form, and what his view is on the present and the future. In 《婆娑之島》, Ping Lu presents the fate of Taiwan being in the midst of imperialism for 400 years, and points out the betrayal of imperialism on Taiwan. Ping Lu argues that in order for Taiwan to evade from such situation, the future of Taiwan should be discussed in the global context, outside of the limited perspective of "China/Taiwan". Chen Yao-chang established the Tiwanese identity based on the multiple history narrative, by referencing to the spacial identity instead of the innate kinship. Such establishment of identity gave a breakthrough to the identity politics in Taiwan. Amidst the rapidly changing world politics and economy, it is essential for Taiwan to reestablish the cultural identity for itself for its development. What is more important is that the multiple history narrative maintains openness of history and communicates with the grand narrative to prevent history from being baised.

  • This study examines the drama "Still in Marronnier Park"(2005) to examine the strategies by which the drama communicates Korean society and literature of the 1960s to the public. The drama focuses on three characters to characterize the historical upheavals of the 1960s and the literary response. In particular, the drama tackles the historical events of the time head-on by introducing characters who are real-life politicians. Therefore, the drama explains historical events through narrators, interviews, and video footage, and at the same time, it helps us understand how political and social events affected the inner lives of Koreans. Through the narratives of Kim Ji-ha and Kim Seung-ok, the drama also conveys how Korean literature responded to unjust realities in the political and social context of the 1960s. Kim Ji-ha's rebellion against those in power and Kim Seung-ok's depiction of her inner landscape are used to portray the response of literature to political reality. Although the drama has the limitation of being somewhat typical, it raises meaningful questions about the meaning of literature in the political and social context of the 1960s and how the memory of the 1960s has left a trace in the minds of Koreans.

This study also suggested the composition of self-history from an epic self-image of events experienced by individuals from their own historical point of view, and argued that SNS post records perform an important role in the process. To this end, the media characteristics of SNS and the way individuals are used were analyzed together.

  • This thesis examines the reality of Hwaseo's view of scholarship established through the various academic roots, and explains the writing techniques in his poetic world. The results are as follows; With the roots including the Five Books of Confucianism, Five Classics, the books of Zhuxi and Songjadaejeon, Hwaseo established his own scholarship based on the principle of 'keeping of piety and acting with prudence(持敬致愼)'. And he pursued a practical discipline in parallel with 'understanding the utmost principle and extension of knowledge(致知)' and 'diligent self-cultivation(力行)'. The characteristics of his poetic techniques are the use of quotation and interweaving narrative with discussion. He did not stay in just borrowing or variations on the quotation, but gave new meanings beyond the acceptation, and even reached the point of creating newly coined words. He made pithy narratives according to historical events and character's activities, put forward some discussions, and then expressed his emotion. In particular, there were the poems described by interweaving narrative with discussion based on Mencius's historical viewpoint of 'repetition of peaceful times and troublous times one by one(一治一亂)', which could be regarded as the most representative works of his literary value as well as the essence of his scholarship and ideas.

철도(鐵道)는 그 발상지인 영국에서 railway(미국 : railroad, 프랑스 : Chemins do for, 독일 : Eisenbahn, 네덜란드 : Spoorweg, 이탈리아 : Ferrovia, 스페인 : Ferrocarril, 중국 : 鐵路)라고 불려지고 있다. • Officially given a historical signifier as Gwangju Democratic Movement since 1987, far-right and conservative group have restated that $5{\cdot}18$ is a rebellion and a riot that was committed by rebellious elements who obeyed North Korea's command or who were connected with North Korea. As those who had been responsible for the rebellion, revolt and riot were rewarded, far-right and conservatives' collective narrative that a country was born where the pro-North Korea left became dominated aroused extreme hostility towards $5{\cdot}18$. Far-right and conservatives involved in many different fields such as political party, university, press and media and civil group carry out incendiary discourse politics with intention to reestablish history and memory of $5{\cdot}18$ in their own story. • Zhang yimou's film "the shadow" adopts a lot of modern literary symbolic content in the story structure. The novel has been greatly modified, abandoning the setting of the original work and making up the historical background of the story, thus completing the discourse practice of aerial literature rather than historical literature. The film expresses the historical story poetically and even writes the personal mind. In this way, the audience's sense of substitution is increased, and a large number of traditional Chinese cultural symbols are adopted visually. In terms of clothing, the most traditional is sought, which advocates loyalty to history, and adds cultural connotation and depth. The audience can feel the bold and unfettered artistic creation spirit of the main creator, as well as the novel and unique visual expression style, which makes his works have both traditional visual perception and modern story content. The combination of traditional vision and modern drama forms a new visual and cultural experience.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine changes in neighborhoods due to the development of residential districts around Jangchungdan(?忠壇) altar in Seoul from the 1920s to the 1930s. In the Joseon Dynasty, this area was a protected and sacred area to honor the spirit. The reputation of the area, however, turned into the place to play and take a rest and neighborhoods around Jangchungdan altar were developed as high-grade residential districts with the impression of suburbs during the Japanese colonial period. Residential districts were formed with the destruction of the Hanyang City Wall and the privatization of nation-owned forest, which were physical and symbolic boundaries of Seoul in the Joseon Dynasty.
