  • The purpose of this research is a seismic capacity evaluation and strengthening of existing railway station buildings, which were constructed before the seismic design code activated. The seismic capacity of 2nd story RC station building is evaluated by using nonlinear time-history analysis. Analysis results are checked by story drift ratio and story shear, which are described in design code. As a result, the story shears are exceeding the base shear of the design code, the appropriate seismic strengthening methods are needed. To improve the seismic capacity, metallic dampers are used. Evaluation parameters are metallic damper shape and damper installation methods. Dampers are installed in four places in X and Y directions of station buildings. By reviewing of time-history analysis results, the metallic damper, which is installed inverted K-brace type, shows a better seismic performance than other damper shape and installation methods.

  • The aim of this study is to analyze the transition of the building of Daegu City Library during the Japanese Colonial Period. To do this, the articles of newspaper and periodicals, books, official documents, official gazettes, statistics, publications of official history of Daegu City Library and research papers were widely collected and cross-checked with each others. As the result of this study, the precedent researches and official history publications related to Daegu City Library had some important errors including the date of the municipal ordinance for Daegu City Library, the first building of Daegu City Library and the date of the breaking-ground, completion and opening for the new building. It is assumed that these errors were generated from the shortage of bibliographic information and full-text databases at those time. At the end of this study, additional research about the history of Daegu City libraries during the Japanese Colonial Period were suggested.

  • Frank Lloyd Wright and Mies van der Rohe are two of the most influential architects in modern architecture. In spite of the different values in their architectural lives, the design of high-rise building had been a continuous matter of primary concern for them. The purpose of this study is to compare the architectural characteristics of the two master architects in terms of building form, structure, function, and envelop skin. glass. Both of them shared with the principle of organic architecture even in the design of high-rise buildings. However, the specific approaches to realize it in high-rise buildings are significantly different. Although they emphasized the integration of building form and structure, Wright regarded the reinforced concrete structure as an organic form-giver, while Mies introduced the steel skeleton structure only as an efficient and flexible building frame. As primary finishing materials for high-rise buildings, glass was used for functional purpose by Wright, but for visual purpose by Mies.

  • It was identified by the excavation that architecture remains were confirmed buddhist temple consist of ruins of main building of a temple, auditorium site, ruins of stone pagoda, embankment, pedestrian Facilities and drainage etc. in the Gwangmyeong-dong site. The site has been held temple arrangement with 1 main building of a temple, twin Pagodas from the Unified Silla period to Goryeo dynasty. The temple constructed after that was destroyed the architecture in the Unified Silla period. • The purpose of this study is to examine the various concepts related to tall buildings, the history of skyscrapers, and their symbolism of our time. First, skyscraper is a word used to describe a very tall building, and the "tall" is a relative concept dependent on time and place. There is no firm height cutoff of skyscrapers, and their practical meaning depends on both time and place. Second, there is academic disagreement over which building should be considered the first skyscraper. Skyscrapers in the modern sense began to emerge in the late nineteenth century. From this point, the world's tallest building was always in the United States (especially, New York and Chicago). However, since the late 1990s, the skyscrapers in Asian countries have taken the title of world's tallest building. Third, skyscrapers are not simply tall buildings, but symbolic images. They are symbols of capitalism, finance, and ambition. The symbolism of the skyscraper has three dimensions, such as the symbolism of height (size), capital (corporate power), and landscape.
