최근 기기절연에 부과되는 제요구가 많아지고 특히 전계강도의 증대, 사용환경의 다양화, 장기수명의 보증및 신뢰성 확립등의 견지에서 볼때 고분자의 절연에 많은 문제점이 제기되어 있으며, 이를 해결하기 위하여 물성론적 입장에서의 구명이 요망되어져 있는 실정이라 하겠다. 이러한 취지에서 고분자절연재료의 절연파괴를 고찰하기 위하여 역사적 배경으로부터 절연파괴기구에 대하여 간단히 기술하고저 한다.

In this paper we investigate the origin of the variational calculus with respect to the extremal principle. We also study the role the extremal principle has played in the development of the calculus of variations. We deal with Dido's isoperimetric problem, Maupertius's least action principle, brachistochrone problem, geodesics, Johann Bernoulli's principle of virtual work, Plateau's minimal surface and Dirichlet principle.

의사소통은 인간의 기본 욕구 중 하나다. 우리 선조들이 생활주변에서 얻어지는 갖가지 재료를 가지고 의사전달의 표현도구로 삼았던 것은 바로 이러한 근원적인 욕망을 충족시키고자 하는 데서 비롯되었다. 인류가 발전함에 따라 감정과 생각을 좀 더 쉽고 정확하게 전달하고자 하는, 한 단계 더 심화된 욕구가 발동되었고 그에 따라 표현방법도 다양하게 모색되었다. 더 나아가 표출된 의사소통 내용을 기록해 두어 오래 보존하고자 하는 욕망도 생겨났는데, 앞으로 우리가 함께 더듬어 볼 한국인쇄술의 발명 역사도 결국은 이러한 맥락과 상통되고 있는 셈이다.
