Research on an aristocratic officer's travels in the mid Chosun Korea by analysing Yu Hee-chun's diary (일기(日記)를 이용한 조선중기 양반관료의 여행 연구)

  • The objective of this research is to reconstruct an aristocratic officer's travels by analysing Yu, hee-chun's diary, Miamilgi. Yu had kept his diary for eighty three months, from October 1567 to May 1577, and there were twenty six times of travel logs which are analysed in this research. As a result of the analysis, his travels can be divided into official travels and private travels. Sixteen times of official travels were comprised of inspection tours for parishes as a superintendent of Jeonra province, trips to supervise maintenance works of royal tombs and to worship the tombs, to carry out the sanjae (rituals in the mountains) as a second minister of the ministry of rites. It was difficult for him to have private travels as he continually served as a royal officer. He had got only 10 times of private travels during the eighty three months for maintaining the ancestor's tomb and worshiping the ancestors, for recuperating himself and his wife, and for constructing his new house. All of these travels were long-distance ones. In terms of his travel routes, he frequently used royal main trunks, e.g. 'Haenamro' (from Seoul to Damyang), which were maintained by the royal government. The main reason of his frequent using of trunk lines was that convenience facilities such as the royal post stations (Yeok) and royal inns (Won) were equipped well in these roads so it was easy to get horse change services and lodging and boarding. The fact that main trunks were chiefly straight lines and the shortest way was rather secondary reason. On the other hand, when he was a superintendent of Junra province, he had four times of round inspection on all parishes of Junra province, following the tour routs covering all over the province. As he was incumbent royal officer, he started his travel by getting a permission from the king. Simultaneously, he made ready some travel items. Among the items, horse was most important one for the journey. After finishing all the preparing processes before the departure, he had special farewell ceremony for the King, Sookbae, and had a small party with his friends called Jeonbeul. Main transportation means for his travel was horse, and many kinds of horses such as royal government's horse, Yeokma, local government's horse, Swema, as well as his private one were used. Additionally, he used a palanquin while he was doing inspection trip as a superintendent of Junra province. Yu was incumbent officer so he mostly lodged in local government guest houses. If he could not find out any local guest house, he was lodged in royal inn, and in his relatives houses or irregularly in buddhist temples. Most meals were supplied by local royal governments. The activities in his journeys were varied on his travel objectives. In his private journey, it was the main activities that maintaining ancestor's tombs and having a memorial service. During the trip, he visited his relatives. His official trips, on the other hand, had a regularity. Main activities were dealing with public works, and visiting Hyanggyo (country public school). However in the midway, he visited his relatives and had a journey to scenic places.

A Study on the Establishment of Preservation Area for the Preservation of Historical and Cultural Space in the Ancient Village - Focused on the Hongcun, China - (고촌락 역사문화공간 보존을 위한 보호구역 설정 방안 연구 - 중국 굉촌을 중심으로 -)

  • This paper analyzed the characteristics of ancient villages in Hongcun and the method of resetting the preservation area for the preservation of the changed historical and cultural space in Hongcun through the process of change. To this end, the current status of preservation areas and utilization areas in the village was identified through ancient documents, old paintings, policy materials, and interviews related to the village, and through this, the problem of resetting the preservation area was examined. As a result, the following conclusions were drawn. First, Hongcun is a village built under the influence of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism, and the spatial organization was created according to the hierarchy of Confucianism. As a result, it was possible to inherit and preserve the heritage of ancestors even though the central government did not preserve it. Second, the concept of preservation in a limited sense has been applied as Hongcun has been recognized as a cultural heritage that has been passed down since ancient times, but the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution brought about changes in the village space. Since then, ancient buildings, water systems, and forests have been preserved through regulations on new construction and expansion of a building with the Hongchon preservation plan, but the development within the preservation area is underway due to changes in the lives of original inhabitants, which were followed by continued development pressure and reform and opening. Third, the original inhabitant of ancient villages had a high perception of the value of the heritage, but they demanded the preparation of measures to improve living conditions and create profits, and the active use of villages for this. Fourth, the forest consisting of old trees is being restored, but the gardens in the old house are showing a phenomenon that the garden space is reduced or transformed for use. The bridges and parking lots were newly built in the southern area, which was extended from the western area, the original entrance to the ancient village, resulting in changes in the existing entrance. This was found to be the primary cause of the spatial change of the ancient village, as the road system was modified to make it convenient for tourists to enter and exit. Fifth, the existing preservation area should be reset and preserved by resetting the preservation route centered on Wolso(half Moon Pool), while the surrounding area should be set as a direct and indirect experience space, and according to the hierarchy of each space, the utilization should proceed while the preservation is carried out by crossing the preservation and the utilization.

A study on the Construction and the Transition of Daebodan in the Late Josun Dynasty (조선후기 창덕궁 대보단의 조성과 변천에 관한 연구)

  • The Daebodan was an altar, which held a memorial service for emperors of the Ming dynasty. This alter, which was referred to as Hwangdan, was first constructed in 1704. When the Japanese Invasion of Korea commenced in 1592, Shinjong, the emperor of the Ming dynasty, sent reinforcements to Josun to help. This alter was made to repay Shinjong's kindness. Before this, Song-siyeol(宋時烈), Leader of Noron(老論), made a shrine at Hwayangdong to hold memorial services for Shinjong, and after some time, this developed into a national ceremony. Construction of the Daebodan largely changed the backyard of Changdukgung-palace. However considering the construction process, the meaning of the Daebodan was not a big deal. At first, the optimal place for the Daebodan was selected at the site of a inner icehouse. But the inner icehouse could not be transferred to other site due to the circumstances. After all, the Daebodan was constructed at the site of Byeoldaeyeong(別隊營) which was located in the outside of palace. Most of the stones for the new Daebodan were used ones. And the annexe of Byeoldaeyeong was used for Daebodan without any changes being made. The scale of the construction was not particularly grand. After the construction, Sukjong, who made the Daebodan, showed barely any interest in it. But the conception of the Daebodan was back again in the history by Youngjo. He was also not interested in the Daebodan during his early years of ruling time. However, in the 1740's, he started to become interested in the ceremony of Daebodan, and carried out a large-scale reconstruction of the Daebodan. Jegigo(祭器庫) was rebuilt In 1739. And Jaesil(齋室), staying one night before the ceremonial day, was added in 1745. In 1749, the Daebodan was greatly changed by enshrining Uijong and Taejo, emperors of the Ming dynasty. The shape of alter was changed. Moreover this alter was made by newly quarried stones. And several buildings, Junsachung(典祀廳), Jaesaengchung(宰牲廳) and Akgongchung(樂工廳), were added to the site. In 1762, meritorious retainers were enshrined to the Daebodan. After all the Daebodan became an important part of the backyard of Changdukgung-palace. During the reign of Jungjo, the Daebodan also was an important part of backyard of Changdukgung-palace. But significant changes were not made at that time. The only change was the moving of Kyungbonggak(敬奉閣) in 1799. Afterward the Daebodan remained unchanged. The ceremonies at the Daebodan stopped in 1908. And the Daebodan disappeared into the mist of history.

Estimating Transfer Trips in Seoul Metropolitan Urban Railway (Using Transportation Card) (수도권 도시철도 환승통행량 추정방안 (교통카드자료를 이용하여))

  • Separate transportation card readers that record the amount of transfer volume occurring during movement in-between lines within the metropolitan railway transfer stations do not exist. This research proposes a model to estimate passenger transit movements in transfer stations that adequately reproduces characteristics arising during a transfer trip. The model used in this study assumes that passengers adopt transfer behaviors that minimize their generalized costs during transfer trips. Further, two measures are sought in order to reflect attributes of the metropolitan railway. The first is that similar paths connect origin and destination stations. For this, the M-Similar Paths method is applied to the model to identify the similar paths that arise. The second is that passengers perceive increasing number of transfers as additional transfer costs, which is reflected by means of the Stepwise Transfer Coefficient. Two case studies of metropolitan railway are used to propose measures for analysis of transfer trips. Twenty directional transit phenomena are reproduced for Sindorim railway station. Aggregate directional transit(A), aggregate inter-line transit(B), and B/A are calculated on a percentage basis for 33 metropolitan railway transfer stations, and using this, the functional role of transfers is explored.

Relevancy between Aliases of Eight Provinces and Topographical Features during the Chosun Dynasty (′조선 8도′의 별칭과 지형의 관련성)

  • In Korea, aside from their official administrative names, aliases of each province or some regions are widely used not only today but also during the Joseon period when the provincial system as local administrative system was firmly implemented. Of aliases, the most representative were Giho, Gwandong, Hoseo, Haeseo, Honam, Yaeongnam, Gwanseo, and Gwanbuk representing the eight provinces (precisely, Gyeonggi and seven provinces) of Chosun Dynasty, as well as Yeongdong and Yeongseo that represent the east and the west of Gangwon-do. These aliases are mostly based on topographical features and physiographical elements, and compared to the official names of eight provinces which depended solely on city names. Of aliases, some appeared in literature during 13-l4th centuries, and all provincial aliases seem to have been widely used after the late 15th century. Aliases continued to be used for 500 to over 700 years. Aliases of eight provinces, geographically, played not lesser role than their official names. Aliases of the eight provinces and regions during the Chosun Dynasty that have been handed down are considered as holding their places' cultural and historical backgrounds, and have become important enough to be accepted as a unit of geographical regional division. The origin and meaning of aliases of each province have been partially disclosed to the geographical circle and the general public. However, the details should be reviewed. First of all, Gwan in Gwanbuk, Gwanseo and Gwandong, as well as Yeong in Yeongnam, Yeongdong and Yeongseo, are each considered as meaning Sobaek Mountain Range and Taebaek Mountain Range with many borderline areas (borders) and military strategic hubs. Also, Ho in Honam, Hoseo, and Giho, are considered as based on the Geum River and Eurimji, and Haeseo are considered as meaning the west of the Gyeonggi Bay, and having relevancy with the first letters of Haeju and Seoha (Pungcheon).

The Reinterpretation of Good Design - The Comparison between Rams and Norman (굿디자인(Good Design)의 재해석 - 람스(Rams)와 노만(Norman)의 굿디자인 비교를 중심으로)

  • In the early 20th century, the efforts for design standards for industry and the new aesthetic of Functionalism began from the Deutcher Werkbund, an English German Association of Craftsmen. In the similar vein, the Bauhaus, founded in 1919 at Weimar, provided the definition of Good Design, as a contemporary concept, that combines art with technology. From 1950 to 1955, the modern usage of the term 'Good Design' was derived from a series of exhibitions and consumer education programs conducted by the MOMA(Museum of Modern Art, New York). The mission was to bring modern design to the attention of the general public. From the second half of the 20th century, many specialists in different areas, such as designers, manufacturers, enterprises, and scholars, began to give various definitions of 'Good Design'. That's why it could be interpreted and applied to unique and various methods by them. Meanwhile, Rams and Norman argued that the Good Design has to be not only considered within function, aesthetic, technology, etc, but also interpreted from both the physical and psychological point of views. Accordingly, this study tried to find out the historical investigation and the definition of Good Design in detail, and to figure out that the user-centered design from both physical and psychological approaches is eventually synonymous to 'Good Design'.

A Preliminary Study of the Global Application of HAZUS and ShakeMap for Loss Estimation from a Scenario Earthquake in the Korean Peninsula (지진재해예측을 위한 HAZUS와 ShakeMap의 한반도에서의 적용가능성 연구)

  • Efficiency and limitations of HAZUS-MH, a GIS based systematic and informative system developed by FEMA and NIBS for natural hazard loss estimations, are discussed by means of a pilot study in the Korean Peninsula. Gyeongsang-do has been selected for the test after careful reviews of previous studies including historical and modern seismicity in the peninsula. A ShakeMap for the selected scenario earthquake with magnitude 6.7 in Gyeongju area is prepared. Then, any losses due to the scenario event have been estimated using HAZUS. Results of the pilot test show that the study area may experience significant physical, economic, and social damages. Detailed study in the future will provide efficient and crucial information to the decision makers and emergency agents to mitigate any disaster posed by natural hazards.

Transportation Card Based Optimal M-Similar Paths Searching for Estimating Passengers' Route Choice in Seoul Metropolitan Railway Network (수도권 도시철도망 승객이동경로추정을 위한 교통카드기반 최적 M-유사경로 구축방안)

  • The Seoul metropolitan transportation card's high value lies in its recording of total population movements of the public transit system. In case of recorded information on transit by bus, even though route information utilized by each passenger is accurate, the lack of passenger transfer information of the urban railway makes it difficult to estimate correct routes taken by each passenger. Therefore, pinpointing passenger path selection patterns arising in the metropolitan railway network and using this as part of a path movement estimation model is essential. This research seeks to determine that features of passenger movement routes in the urban railway system is comprised of M-similar routes with increasing number of transfer reflected as additional costs. In order to construct the path finding conditions, an M-similar route searching method is proposed, embedded with non additive path cost which appears through inclusion of the stepwise transportation parameter. As well, sensitivity of the M-similar route method based on transportation card records is evaluated and a stochastic trip assignment model using M-similar path finding is constructed. From these, link trip and transfer trip results between lines of the Seoul metropolitan railway are presented.

Analysis of the Effects of In-service Education Program on Rural Amenity (농촌어메니티 교원 연수 프로그램 효과 분석)

  • 본 연구에서는 초 중등 교원들의 농업 농촌에 대한 가치 인식 및 학교 현장에서의 학생 지도력을 높이기 위해 교원들에게 농촌어메니티에 대한 이론과 체험 학습을 제공하는 '농촌어메니티 체험 연수 프로그램'의 개발 적용하고, 프로그램의 효과를 분석하였다. '농촌어메니티 개념 및 정책 이해', '농촌어메니티 현장 이해 및 체험', '농촌어메니티 수업 적용'의 3개 영역으로 구성된 총 20시간의 교원연수 프로그램을 개발하였으며, '09. 7. 23. ~ 8. 13.까지 2박 3일씩 5차에 걸쳐 200명의 교사를 대상으로 연수 프로그램을 운영하고, 연수 전후 설문조사를 실시하여 그 결과를 분석하였다. 연수에 참여한 교원들의 인구통계학적 특성을 분석한 결과, 여성의 비율이 56.9%로 남성(43.1%)에 비해 높았으며, 일반교사의 비율(53.3%)이 부장교사(26.9%)나 교장 교감 (19.8%)의 비율에 비해 높았다. 연령 분포에서는 50대가 35.2%로 가장 많고, 40대가 32.7%를 차지하고 있었으며, 경력이 20년 이상인 교원들이 67.2%인 것으로 나타났다. 근무기관 분포에서는 초등학교 교원들이 54.8%로 가장 많았으며, 중학교, 고등학교 교원이 각각 20.3%, 18.8%인 것으로 나타났다. 근무지역 분포에서는 중소도시에서 근무하는 교원들이 70.6%로 대다수를 차지하고 있었으며, 농촌거주 경험이 있는 교원들이 64.8%인 것으로 분석되었다. 연수 참여 사전-사후 설문조사를 통한 인식 변화를 분석(Paired samples t-test)한 결과 참여 이후 '농업 농촌에 대한 관심 정도', '농업의 중요도에 대한 인식', '농촌의 생활 정주, 관광 휴양 여건에 대한 인식', '농촌어메니티에 대한 이해도'가 모두 개선된 것으로 나타났다. '농촌어메니티에 대한 중요도 인식'(5점 척도)에서는 환경자원, 자연자원, 역사자원, 경관자원, 시설자원, 경제활동자원, 공동체활동자원으로 분류된 37개의 세부자원들에 대한 중요도 인식이 연수 참여 이후 높아진 것으로 나타났다. 단, 환경자원 가운데 '수질'의 평균 점수는 사전 4.8671, 사후 4.8960로 유의미한 차이가 발견되지 않았다. 연수 전반에 대해 만족하는 교원의 비율이 98.5%로 나타났으며, 연수 이후 농업 농촌에 대한 이해도가 증가했다는 응답이 98.0%, 학생 지도력이 증가했다는 응답이 95.0%, 연수에서 학습한 내용을 학생지도시 활용하겠다는 응답이 97.5%로 집계되어, 개발된 연수 프로그램이 설계시 수립한 목적 달성에 기여하고 있는 것으로 분석되었다.

Development of Rural Amenity Contents for the Textbooks of Agricultural High School (농업계고등학교 교과서의 어메니티 교육내용 개발)

  • 농업계고등학교 교과서는 농촌어메니티를 학습할 수 있는 최적의 교재로서 농촌어메니티 교육내용을 개발함으로써 청소년의 올바른 농업 농촌 가치관 형성 및 국민적 공감대 확산에 이바지하고자 한다. 대상 교과서는 농업계고등학교 교과서 39종으로 이루어졌으며, 연구방법으로는 우선적으로 1~5단계의 내용분석 척도를 설정하여(1단계는 어메니티 개념에 따라 반드시 수정이 필요한 내용, 2단계는 어메니티 개념에 따라 수정이 필요한 내용, 3단계는 어메내티 개념이 포함되었는지 판단할 때 크게 문제가 없는 내용, 4단계는 어메니티 개념이 포함되어 있는 좋은 내용, 5단계는 어메니티 개념이 포함되어 있는 교과서의 모델이 될 수 있는 내용) 판정하였다. 그 결과 1단계 어메니티 개념에 따라 반드시 수정이 필요한 내용을 선정하여 교과내용을 개발하였으며, 이는 어메니티 관점에 맞추어 실시하였다. 또한 내용분석을 통한 교과서 구분을 하여 A, B, C 유형으로 나타내었다. A유형은 내용분석의 결과 판정 1 또는 2의 분석 내용이 20개 이상 나온 교과서, B유형은 내용분석의 결과 판정 1 또는 2의 분석 내용이 10~19개 나온 교과서, C유형은 내용분석의 결과 평정 1또는 2의 분석 내용이 10개 미만으로 나온 교과서를 의미한다. 교과내용 개발 결과 총 262건의 교과내용 개발이 이루어졌으며, 문장 132개로 50.38%, 사진 105개 40.47%, 삽화 22개 8.35, 그래프 0.76%, 표 0.38% 등의 순서로 나타났다. 총 262개 개발내용중에서 '사회자원의 시설'부분에 대한 관점 77개로, '사회자원의 경제활동'에 대한 관점 64개, '문화자원의 경관'에 대한 관점 50개 순으로 집계되었다. 그 다음은 '자연자원의 자연'에 대한 관점이 47개, 문화자원의 역사'에 대한 관점이 9개, '사회자원의 공동체 활동'에 대한 관점이 14개 순으로 나타났다. 자연적 자원 18.31%, 문화적 자원 22,52%, 사회적 자원 관점이 59.16%로 '사회적 자원 관점이 가장 많은 것으로 나타났다. 이는 농업계고등학교 교과서에서는 농촌어메니티의 사회적 자원이 강조되어야 하며, 문화적 자원, 자연적 자원의 순서로 강조될 필요성이 있다는 것을 뜻한다. 즉 농촌어메니티개념의 확립을 이하여 현재 농업계 고등학교 교과서에서는 시설, 경제활동, 공동체활동 같은 '사회적 자원'을 보강하여 강조할 필요가 있음을 나타낸다.
