  • The cut river is widely used for the agricultural and housing purposes in Korea and this study is to evaluate the economic value of the cut river. Say, the study is to evaluate and compare the economic values for the cases of which the cut river can be used as the agricultural or housing site and a wetland or recreational site. The study area is the downstream part of Kok-Neung stream which is a main tributary of Han River. For the case of assuming the cut river is used as the agricultural purpose, the value is estimated from the Agricultural & Forestry Statistical Yearbook 2000. For the case of assuming the cut river is used as a wetland or recreational site, the value for a wetland or recreation is estimated by the enquete using questionnaire. That is to say, the results of enquete is used for the estimation of a recreational value by the Travel Cost Method (TCM) and the aesthetical value is estimated by the enquete based on the presumed value in USA. As a results, for the case of which the cut river is used as an agricultural purpose, the equal-payment-series is estimated as 7.06 million won. For wetland purpose, the series is estimated as 1931.40 million won and for the recreational purpose, the series is as 6284.86 million won. The aesthetical value is estimated as 140 thousand won per annum. Therefore, the wetland or recreational use of the cut river is more valuable than agricultural or housing purpose.

  • The traffic management schemes through traffic signal control and information provision could be effective when the link-level data and trip-level data were used simultaneously in analysis Procedures. But, because the trip-level data. such as origin, destination and departure time, can not be obtained through the existing surveillance systems directly. It is needed to estimate it using the link-level data which can be obtained easily. Therefore the objective of this study is to develop the model to estimate O-D demand using only the link flows in highway network as a real time. The methodological approaches in this study are kalman filer, least-square method and normalized least-square method. The kalman filter is developed in the basis of the bayesian update. The normalized least-square method is developed in the basis of the least-square method and the natural constraint equation. These three models were experimented using two kinds of simulated data. The one has two abrupt changing Patterns in traffic flow rates The other is a 24 hours data that has three Peak times in a day Among these models, kalman filer has Produced more accurate and adaptive results than others. Therefore it is seemed that this model could be used in traffic demand management. control, travel time forecasting and dynamic assignment, and so forth.

  • Mountain tourism is regarded as an important inbound tourist destination for the whole world. The Himalayan Mountains are house of world's highest peaks that includes over 100 mountains exceeding 8,500 meters. However limited dimension of visitors constraints and motivation has been reported about the high altitude mountain. This research work permits the identification of some of the motivation and constraints related to the decision making of tourism in high altitude mountains. The study was conducted in Korea, Indian state (Sikkim), and Nepal (Kathmandu) due to the popularity and the major destination for mountain tourism. A set of 9 motive, 45 motivation items and 40 constraints were initially generated from a review of research pertaining to visitor motivation and constraints. They were considered to be the most appropriate for measuring visitors motivation and constraints for experiencing high altitude mountain tourism. Validity of dimensionality and inter correlation was evaluated by factor analysis investigation and analysis of obtained data revealed that constraints of Korean are significantly higher than Indian and other inbound tourist. Among the major constraints structural constraints were recorded higher for Indian, Korean and other visitors. Similarly, motives of different visitors varied significantly. This analysis also revealed that Korean motives for travelling were influenced by health and pleasure, whereas, Indian and others motives were mostly related to knowledge seeking and adventure. The environmental importance were given priority by all the countries. The purpose of this study includes; (1) To identify the motives of visitors in high altitude destinations. (2) To analysis the major motivation factor for the altitude tourism. (3) To report the major constraints of visitors travelling to the high altitude. (4) To study whether the strength of motivation help to overcome the constraints.

  • The purposes of this study are two folds: (a) to identify the influences of tourism on subjective well-being, and (b) to understand the roles of travel motivation, constraint and personal value in subjective well-being. A polling agency was employed to select 500 respondents by quota sampling, and data was collected by online survey. ANOVA and regression results showed that tourism participants, compared to the non-participants, have a tendency to select tourism as a mean to enhance their subjective well-being because they are more self-motivated people. Their high motivation to take a trip lead to set up their feasible goals to achieve by the tourism experience and their relatively few constraints help them to have trip easily. The people's satisfaction in tourism contributes to the satisfaction in his/her leisure life, which in turn contributes to his/her subjective well-being. It is also revealed that tourism participation and subjective income level are significant variables affecting subjective well-being, which explain 21.1 percent of the variance. The research suggests various managerial implications to reduce constraints and several ideas for future researches.

  • A preliminary study on the existing attraction effect and compromise effect was started on the experiment studies about product or service and conducted on the empirical studies on things, research trips, staff recruitment process in the research and the actual US presidential election. However most studies have been limited in the theories of the frequency range and no research about combining compromise effect and attraction effect with the types of promotion. The purpose of this study verifies that how attraction effect and compromise effect in the choice option of the choice process for brand varies according to the types of promotion. This study compares the difference of choice of brand between the influence of the attraction effect and compromise effect. The independent variables among the manipulated variables are as follows : (1) Brand choice (attraction effect and compromise effect), (2) Promotion Type (price promotion/non-price promotion). This study was manipulated in between-subjects design and within-subjects design. The results of this study will be able to see the implications for the positioning strategy of offering several new products such as practical dimensions of promotion strategy because the entry of new brands rather increases market share of similar existing brands.

  • The empirical objectives of this study include, firstly, to identify the underlying dimensions in food tourism, secondly, to identify and test the tourists' characteristic variables that explain participation in food tourism, and finally to examine the relationship between food tourism and the characteristic variables. Derived from existing food tourism literature, three underlying dimensions of activities in food tourism are given; (1) dining at restaurants serving local cuisine, (2) purchasing local food products, and (3) dining at high quality restaurants. Four valid conceptual variables were used to test whether there are significant relationships between them and food tourism variables. They are food neophobia, variety-seeking, hedonic consumption, and identity affirmation. Based on the survey responses from 164 tourists visiting Kanghwa-do, Namisum, and Yongjong-do, multi-regression analysis was employed. The findings suggested that there were negative relationships between food neophobia and all other dimensions in food tourism. In addition, variety seeking, identity affirmation, and hedonism have positive influence on the dimensions of food tourism. Therefore, utilizing various culinary cultures, food tourism activities with increasing the availability and branding of indigenous local dishes are strongly advised to the destinations concentrating in the food tourism market.

  • The purpose of this study is to make a plan for the development of new tour routes for '98 Kyongju World Culture Exposition. The result of this study is as follow: First, over 40% of tourists from Kyongsang-buk-do Province vote for Kyongju Area as the most favorite tourist-oriented city in this province. And they are visiting Kyongju mostly in April(22.6%) and in May(17.8%). Second, cultural assets in Kyongju area are located at Inkyo-dong(16.8%), at Bohwang-dong(9.4%), at Topjong-dong(8.1%). at Mt. Namsan area(11.8%, 6.9% for Naenammyon, and 4.9% for Dodong-dong), and at the vicinity of Kyongju City(53.9%). Third, tourism enterprises in Kyongju Area are located mostly at one place-Pomun Lake Resort area. This fact have had bad influence on the influx of tourists. Lastly, current tour routes are limited mostly to the heart of Kyongju City. So, other attractive tour routes must be developed also in other tourism circles such as the East Sea Tourism Circle and the Northern Province Tourism Circle, which belong to the 6 tourism circles designated by Kyongju City but are now excluded from the current tour routes. In conclusion, this study proposes "98 Kyongju World Culture Exposition with Themes" related to the 6 tourism circles. The themes proposed are as follows: (1) The exploration of the historical places of the Shill a Kingdom in the heart of Kyongju City including Mt. Seoak area and Pulkuksa Temple area. (2) Smile with a new millenium in Pomun Lake Resort area. (3) The exploration of the Buddhist culture in Mt. Namsan. (4) The harmony between nature and culture in the East Sea Tourism Circle and the Northern Culture Circle.

  • The aging of population stems from the decline of birth and death rates. A sudden aging society results in a variety of social issues like the poverty, role loss, alienation, health problems, etc. of the elderly. What counts in solving these issue is to make good use of the leisure time of the elderly. Leisure activities in the elderly help maintain and improve their mental and physical health, and have a great influence on improving the quality of life in the elderly. In addition, they contribute to building up a healthy social structure by forming a social intimacy. Despite these positive aspects of leisure activities, however, multiple factors prevent the leisure activities of the elderly from being actively pursued. In this respect, since there is a need to take a look at how the varied leisure activities of the elderly expose themselves in different regions, this study made an investigation so as to see what characteristics and differences each region has in the leisure activities of the elderly 65 or above. As a result, the following facts were found out: the elderly in Seoul enjoy a relatively wide range of leisure activities compared with other regions; the elderly in Gwangju spend their time mainly at home: and the elderly in the Goheung region take part in leisure activities aimed at promoting friendship. It was also revealed that there are differences among different regions in the areas of leisure activities, including the types of participation in leisure activities, the types of leisure activities at and out of home, the purpose and satisfaction of leisure activities and the frequency of domestic trips.
