  • Premenstural dysphoric disorder(PMDD) imposing 4-5% of women is possibly caused by an enhanced responsiveness to the changes of sex steroid hormones and the decrease of serotonin, melatonin and GABA. The common clinical features between PMDD and depression, seasonal affective disorder, panic disorder and anorexia nervosa suggest a relatedness between PMDD and each of them. The diagnostic criteria of DSM-IV-Tr for PMDD requires psychological symptoms, that commonly include irritability, anger, depression, mood swing, affect lability, tension, anxiety, fatigue and food craving. As of today, the best pharmacological treatment for PMDD is the selective serotonin reuptake inhibiter, and leuprolide, danazol, estradiol, spironolactone and bromocriptine are possible alternatives. Nonpharmacological treatments for patients with mild to moderate symptom severity are diet, exercise, light therapy, psychotherapy and keeping a diary.

  • Osteoporosis means a deficiency in the amount of bone tissue in the skeleton or part of the skeleton. Osteoporosis is a lesion, not a specific disease. 'Osteoporotic' describes the slate of a bone or skeleton at a given time. Osteoporosis may be diagnosed subjectively by visual appraisal, or objectively by measurement of radiographs, sawn bones, or microscopic sections. This study was carried out to make clear of the influence of ovariectomy on time course of fibular osteoporosis in rats. Seven weeks after ovariectomy, osteoporosis was evident, when the size of the bone marrow cavities significantly increased and the width from the bone marrow cavity and cortex significantly decreased than normal.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the cognition of high school students and science teachers on the endocrine disruptors. Subjects of this study were 204 high school students and 26 science teachers. The results were as follows. Students obtained informations about endocrine disruptors mainly through mass media like TV, radio or lesson in school. Most of them were interested in endocrine disruptors and they thought that endocrine disruptors were very dangerous for people. And they preferred learning materials such as movies, images, and animations, but they didn't want to participate in activity of education on endocrine disruptors actively. Science teachers has agreed to needs of education on endocrine disruptors and has required education programs such as movies, images or animations for effective endocrine disruptors education.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of resistance training intensity levels on muscle damaged index and aging-related hormones in obese middle-aged women. Thirty middle-aged women having over 30% of body fat participated in this study. The subjects were assigned into 3 groups on the basis of workout intensity, 50% intensity, 60% intensity, and 70% intensity. After performing three different types of exercise for 12 weeks, the levels of creatine kinase (CK), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), melatonin, dehydroepiandrosterone-sulphate (DHEA-S), and growth hormone (GH) in all subjects were assessed before and after the program. Muscle damaged index was effectively changed in low exercise intensity group. However, aging-related hormones were effectively changed in high exercise intensity group. DHEA-S and GH were significantly increased in the 70% intensity group than the other groups.

  • In order to see whether the mamillary bodies participate in the control of female gonadotrophic function, 12 female rats in which the mamillary bodies were damaged by passing 0.3 ma direct cur-rent through stereotaxically implanted electrodes, 8 rats which received the same treatment except passage of current, and 9 normal rats were prepared. One month after the operation, all animals were sacrificed and their brain lesions checked histologically, their ovaries and uteri examined and weighed. The ovaries and uteri showed neither atrophic changes in any animal, nor significant differences in the weight among the 3 groups. Thus the results do not support the idea that the mamillary bo-dies are implicated in the control of female gonadotrophic function.

  • It has been known for many years that administration of estrogen, a so-called female hormone, has harmful effects on male fertility. However, studies employing transgenic mice deficient in estrogen receptors reveal substantial roles for estrogen in male fertility. The aim of this article is to review and summarize the current knowledge on the estrogen receptor localization in male reproductive organs including male germ cells of rodents. Also, informations about the mice models with disrupted estrogen signaling and associated phenotypes will be provided.

  • The present study aims to discover the effects of Dance sports program upon the hormone reaction of middle aged women. For this aim, 18 women in their 40 s were randomly selected and assigned to the experiment group and control group, evenly. The experiment group underwent a 12-week lesson of Dance sports program. Before training, and 4, 8 and 12 weeks after the onset of the lesson, the effects of hormone reaction of the group were investigated and the outcomes of the analysis could be concluded as follows: Both estrogen and growth hormone in the experiment group 12 weeks later result compared with the control group 0 week that practiced Dance Sports programs increased significantly (p<.001). In conclusion, it may be said that the 12-week session of Dance sports program exercised a positive effect to training seems to suggest the possibility of the dance lesson to have effects on the increase of estrogen and growth hormone. The study indicates a number of further are as into understanding that is worked out in consideration of practice period and proper weight for more efficient results, instead of a program that is just composed of an aerobic exercise only.

  • Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is hormonal imbalance condition as the endocrine and metabolic disorder that induces the infertility and various complications in reproductive age women. Estradiol valerate (EV) is used hormone replacement therapy in menopausal women and is reported that excessive administration of EV induces the PCOS. Nerve growth factor (NGF) is the factor to regulate the survival and maturation of developing neuronal cell and is also synthesized in ovary. And NGF is overexpressed in EV-induced polycystic ovary (PCO) as previously reported. Therefore, this study examined the possibility of NGF as can be used the biological marker in diagnosis of PCOS, the hormonal imbalance condition, using PCO and CHO (chinese hamster ovarian) cell lines. The concentration of EV treatment is optimized a 1 mg as not influence on the proliferation of CHO cell but 2 mg and 3 mg of EV treatment have the inhibition effect at initial stage. The morphological change was not observed in CHO cell after dose dependent manner treatment of EV. Expression of NGF mRNA and protein is significantly increased at 30 min after EV treatment in CHO cells compared to that of control. And NGF protein expression is strongly increased in PCO tissue, which observed many follicular cysts compared to normal ovary tissue. Taken together, overexpression of NGF may be act as a molecule to induce an abnormal development of follicle, suggesting that NGF can be used as a biological marker in diagnosis of PCOS.
