The participants were randomly divided into 2 group, Motion Based dance game group(n=10), control group(n=10). After they were divided into an Motion Based dance game group and a control group the Motion Based dance game group participated in six-week period of time, three times a week, 60 minutes each, and the control group didn't exercise outside of their daily lives. To evaluated the balance ability of exercise, it was evaluated by using Berg Balance Scale(BBS), Functional Reach Test(FRT), Timed Up and Go test(TUG). The data was analysis using a paired t-test and independent t-test to determine the statistical significance. The results of this study between BBS, FRT, TUG and Motion Based dance game group had statistically significant difference rather than control group(p<.05). In conclusion, the Motion based Dance Game showed improvement on the balance ability in the elderly. Regular maintenance of the Dance Game "Dance Central" program for the elderly will assistance improve the balance. Consequently, studies on the development of dance games suitable for the elderly are believed to be necessary.

  • People tend to perceive their loved others (e.g., children, spouse, romantic partner) as their extended selves and then control over the loved others' fashion style corresponding to their self-concept. The study conceptually suggested that people's perceptions on legitimacy to interfere the others and their own fashionability would separately or interactively influence their control over the loved others' fashion style. To investigate the suggestions, an experiment with female participants in their 20's was conducted by using a scenario. The results indicated that participants' perception of legitimacy to interfere their boyfriends or their own fashionability did not have a separate effect on control over their boyfriends' fashion style. However, the legitimacy and the fashionability did have an interactive effect on the control. In particular, for high legitimacy groups, there was no difference in the control between low and high fashionability groups. For low legitimacy groups, the control was stronger in high fashionability group than in low fashionability group.

We also interviewed twenty full-time housewives who wanted to return to workforce. The interview questions included reasons for seeking employment, desired working conditions, and difficulties in finding a job. Major findings are as follows: First, there were two groups with respect to reasons why they want employment One was an economic need such as earning basic living expenses and supporting the family. The other was self-realization and social participation. Second most women wanted to do unskilled labor such as housekeeping work, whereas some young or well-educated women looked for a professional job. Third, married women preferred part-time jobs, which were compatible with their family care demands. Most of them wanted a workplace located close to home. The women with child-care responsibility preferred working at home. Fourth, regarding difficulties of returning to workforce, they pointed out vocational ability problems due to their career discontinuation, social prejudice such as gender discrimination and psychological pressure in maintaining work and family at the same time. In order to promote employment of married women, it is required not only to change social prejudices but also to increase effectiveness in policy implementation. In addition, counseling for job-search and vocational ability training programs should be provide.

  • The study examined the relationship between other-dependent narcissism and road rage experience, and whether the relationship was mediated by maladaptive emotion regulation strategies. In addition, the study investigated whether the experience of road rage differed by gender, and the gender difference was mediated by maladaptive emotion regulation strategies. A total of 209 drivers including 107 males and 102 females completed an online survey composed of Two Dimension Narcissism Scale, Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire, and experience of road rage. The main results are as follows: first, blaming others and catastrophizing factors of maladaptive emotion regulation strategies mediated the relationship between other-dependent narcissism and road rage experience. Second, male participants had more experience of road rage than female participants, which was mediated by blaming others factor of maladaptive emotion regulation strategies. Finally, implications and limitations of this study were discussed.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of the education intervention program as a nutrition program and exercise for the improvement of metabolic syndrome in women who voluntarily participated in health program in public health centers over 30 years of age. The subjects of this study were 120 women who completed the 12 - week obesity clinic program among the 400 obesity clinic participants in the northeastern of Seoul. Exercise and nutrition programs were administered on a daily basis for 1 hour every week for 12 hours with exercise and nutrition for 1 week to assess the effect of the participants on the risk factors of metabolic syndrome in health program. The metabolic syndrome and the risk of the disease were examined by analyzing the metabolic syndrome risk factors, change magnitude and change rates before and after the intervention. Waist circumference(p <.001), systolic blood pressure (p <.001), diastolic blood pressure (p <.001) and body mass index (p <.001) decreased during the 12 - week health program. Body weight (p <.01), waist circumference (p <.05), BMI (p <.01) and fat mass (p <.05) decreased more in the age group below 50 years.

  • The body composition and arterial compliance with advanced age increase the risks of cardiovascular diseases, but the elderly can perform rhythm exercise easily, which may positively influence their body composition and arterial compliance. Therefore, this study examined the effects of rhythm exercise training on the body composition and arterial compliance in elderly females. The subjects (n=20) were assigned randomly to either an exercise group (n=10, EX) or non-exercise control group (n=10, CON). The rhythm exercise training for 12 weeks consisted of 3 sessions per week with 60 minutes per session. In addition, the intensity was set to 11-14 of the Borg scale (6-20). The body composition and arterial compliance (pulse wave velocity (PWV)) were measured before and after training. The skeletal muscle mass in the EX was increased significantly (p=0.04) and the right (p=0.002) and left side (p=0.02) of the PWV in the EX were decreased significantly, but the skeletal muscle and both sides of the PWV in the CON were not changed. Elderly females could easily perform rhythm exercise training, which resulted in improvements of the skeletal muscle mass and arterial compliance. Therefore, rhythm exercise training may prevent or delay sarcopenia and reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

  • This study was conducted to investigate effects of 12 weeks of combined exercise training with blood flow restriction (BFR) on body composition (weight, %body fat, lean body mass, body mass index (BMI)) and cardiovascular responses (brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (ba PWV) and ankle-brachial index (ABI)) in elderly women. Participants (N = 43, Females) were randomly assigned into a combined exercise with BFR (n = 14, BFR), only combined exercise (n =14, EX) or non-exercise control group (n = 15, CON). Two-way repeated measures ANOVA with contrast testing was utilized for data analysis. Alpha was set at p < 0.05. Body composition (weight, %body fat, BMI) in BFR was significantly changed, and %body fat in EX was significantly decreased, but there was no change in the CON. In addition, the right and left ba PWV values in the BFR were significantly decreased, while only the left side ba PWV in EX was significantly decreased and there was no change in the CON. Moreover, the % change and effect size of most variables in the BFR were higher than the EX. Taken together, the results indicate that even though BFR and EX groups performed the same combined exercise training, BFR had additional stimulations of the sympathetic nerve system due to blood flow restriction. Thus, BFR training is more beneficial and has greater effects on body composition and cardiovascular responses in elderly females.
