Empirical survey's findings are as follows; First, affective commitment(AC) and continuance commitment(CC) are related negatively with intention to leave(IL), but normative commitment(NC) is not related significantly with IL. Second, gender positively moderates the relationship between affective commitment and intention to leave, and occupation negatively moderates the relationship between continuance commitment and intention to leave.

  • The self-employment can provide work time flexibility. Work time flexibility would be a critical factor for married females' labor supply considering allocation of their time to market work and household work. This study used the 1998 and 2000 Korea Labor and Income Panel Survey for the empirical analyses. Applying the bivariate probit model with partial observability, this study analyzed factors related to the choice of participation in labor market and choice of self-employment. Also, this study examined the effects of marriage and the presence of younger children on changes in decisions related to labor supply using the multinomial logit model: exit from the labor market, increasing and decreasing work hours. The presence of the younger children showed a significantly negative effect on the participation in labor market while positive, but insignificant, effect on self-employment. Compared with females working for others, self-employers without employees and unpaid family workers are less likely to exit labor market rather than increasing work hours. The self-employment would be a good alternative to evade females' career interruption and therefore to enhance the potential human resources.

  • The aim of this paper is to project the state of the labor farce and employment in Korea from 2000 to 2005. The labor market in Korea is experiencing significant changes with the rapid development of Information and Telecommunication Technology (ICT) and the transition of the Korean economy into a knowledge-based economy. On the labor supply side, it is expected that the growth of the labor force will be sluggish; baby boomers will become the middle-aged, while the proportion of senior citizens, the highly educated and the female labor force will grow fast. These changes will alter the human resources management system in business sectors. Moreover, the permanent employment relationship, the hierarchy system and the seniority-based wage system are all expected to change. On the labor demand side, the employment share in highly skilled. knowledge-intensive industries will grow faster than the rest of the economy in tandem with the quickly growing output share of these industries. Especially, more jobs will be created in the ICT industries. The proportion of labor in highly skilled and professional occupations will also grow faster than in other occupations. At the same time, the employment share of female workers will grow more quickly than that of the male workers. These changes, however, may worsen income inequalities and/or increase the unemployment rate when workers do not have the suitable skills or knowledge required by the knowledge-based economy. To avoid this, it is necessary for the government to build up a lifetime learning system for workers.

  • In the Korean film industry, 'diversity film' was used interchangeably with 'low-budget film' and 'independent/art film'. As the concept of film is transformed into a multi-platform era that expands online and offline, the discussion of media diversity has become important in the film industry as well. At the same time, the movement to expand the inclusion and diversity of minorities in the film industry is also evident. Recently, the global film industry is developing by accepting inclusive film policies based on research and policies from a gender-perspective on female narratives and creatives. This study suggests policy directions to redefine the concept of diversity in the Korean film industry and to expand inclusiveness and diversity for minorities based on previous studies and discussions on the diversity of various dimensions surrounding the film industry.

  • Recently, as the characteristics and production methods of the construction industry are changing, and women are actively entering the society, the view of women in the construction industry is also gradually changing. Although the government is currently improving the system to expand women's participation, nevertheless, women's participation in the construction industry is very low compared to other industries. The scope of this study was limited to presenting the actual working environment and improvement plans for male and female engineers in the design office. As a result of the survey on the insufficient part of the work environment, the item 'rest space such as lounge, bathroom, and conference room was narrow' was highly surveyed for men, and 'there was no rest space that required gender discrimination' was highly surveyed for women. As for the improvement measures, both men and women were surveyed highly in the category of 'My place for personal work'. In this study, the scope of the study has a limitation in that it only presents the actual situation and improvement measures for the working environment for male and female engineers in the design office.
