  • This study aimed to comprehensively assess the demographic characteristics, health behaviors, subjective health status, health-related restriction of life, and quality of life of male and female elderly aged 65 years older using data from the 2013-2015 Korean Community Health Survey (KCHS). The results showed that compared to the male elderly, the female elderly was less educated, did not have a spouse or had less household income, had poorer health behaviors, and had lower quality of life caused by restrictions in life. The female elderly had significantly lower quality of life than that of the male elderly. Various factors were found to affect quality of life in both sexes. The presence of spouse and BMI did not affect quality of life of men but did affect the quality of life of women. On the other hand, smoking affected the quality of life of men but not of women. Based on these results, more in-depth studies are needed on the female elderly, who have been reported to have lower health-related quality of life, and sex-specific services and programs that could more effectively improve the quality of life among the elderly should also be developed.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine mediating effects of social adaptation on the relationship between employment status and mental health in a sample of marriage immigrant women. Social adaptation was assessed with Korean proficiency and the length of residence in Korea. Participants comprised of a total of 247 marriage immigrant women who reside in Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi-Do. The data were analyzed by the PASW Statistics 18.0 and the AMOS 18.0 software. The results showed that the social adaptation was a full mediator of the relationship between employment status and mental health. It is plausible to state that employment status may enhance social adaptation, which in turn improve mental health among marriage immigrant women. The implication of our findings is that as employment and social adaptation are important elements of mental health among the marriage immigrate women, education and social support system regarding these antecedent factors should be implemented.

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the association dining-out frequency, nutritional intake level and health risk factors related to metabolic syndrome among Korean women. The data in this study were obtained from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey in 2013 (KNHANES VI). Sample of Korean women (n=3,413), aged over 20 with biochemical, dietary and health screening data, was divided into three groups according to dining-out frequency; "Rarely" (< 1 time / week), "Occasionally" (2~4 times / week) and "Frequently" (${\geq}5times/week$). The results showed that there were significantly different intake levels in energy, water, protein, fat, calcium, sodium and vitamin A according to the dining-out frequency. Each dining-out frequency group was significantly associated to obesity and Low HDL Cholesterolemia. In conclusion, this study found significant association between dining-out frequency, nutritional intake and health risk factors among Korean women. Further studies are necessary to examine subdividing into age and dining-out frequency and health risk factors related to metabolic syndrome among Korean.

From Dec 2016 to Jan 2017 a self-report instrument was used to measure general characteristics, status, importance, implementation, and needs of child healthcare education. The data were analyzed through frequencies, Chi-squared test, and analysis of variance using the SPSS 20.0 program. Fifty-seven percent of transcultural mothers had not participated in child healthcare education before. There was no significant difference between importance and implementation of child healthcare education. In Borich analysis, "Safety accident prevention", "Toilet training", and "Growth and development" were in the 25th percentile. In Locus for Focus, "Safety accident prevention", "Bathing", "Baby massage", "Toilet training", and "Weaning food" were in the HH area. In comparison with importance of child healthcare education, multicultural mothers, and persons in charge of child healthcare, multicultural mothers had significantly higher scores than persons in charge of child healthcare. Therefore, in order to meet multicultural mothers' educational needs for child healthcare education, child healthcare information should be developed.

  • This study conducted oral examinations and individual interviews on migrant multi-cultural family women in Daegu and measured their socio-demographic characters, oral health conditions and OHIP-14 in an aim to investigate the relevance between the oral health of migrant multi-cultural family women living in some big cities and their quality of life. Based on data finally collected from 189 women, the t-test, ANOVA and binary logistic regression analysis were conducted and the conclusions are as follows: The average number of decayed teeth was 2.23, loss teeth was 1.48, and treated teeth was 5.58. Women from the Philippines had more number of loss teeth than those from other countries, and women from China relatively had a small number of filled permanent teeth. The quality of life related to oral health was found to be poor in proportion to the number of loss teeth. A comparison of life quality related to oral health depending on loss teeth showed that life quality related to oral health was lowest in the areas of mental discomfort, physical ability decrease, mental ability decrease, social ability decrease and social disadvantage. Life quality related to oral health was found to be low in proportion to the number of permanent teeth with decay experience and poor monthly household income, which shows that the number of permanent teeth with decay experience and monthly income are mostly related to life quality related to oral health. As migrant multi-cultural family women's life quality related to oral health is low in proportion to the number of loss teeth and decayed teeth, it needs to develop a program to improve their oral healthrelated life quality and conduct follow-up research to verify its effect.
