Comparison of various methods of glomerular filtration rate measurements in children (소아 환아에서 다양한 사구체 여과율 측정법의 비교)

  • Purpose : Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is a fundamental parameter in assessing renal function and predicting the progression of chronic renal disease. Because the use of serum creatinine has several disadvantages, many studies have investigated the use of cystatin C for estimating GFR. We compared creatinine clearance and GFR with formulas using serum creatinine and cystatin C. Methods : We retrospectively analyzed 211 patients with various renal diseases and classified them into two groups according to creatinine clearance (Group 1: CrCl >$90mL/min/1.73m^2$, Group 2: CrCl <$90mL/min/1.73m^2$). We measured serum creatinine, cystatin C, and creatinine clearance. We calculated GFR using the Schwartz, Counahan, Filler and Lepage, Bokencamp et al, and Grubb et al formulas. Results : GFR determined by the Schwartz formula had the highest correlation to creatinine clearance (r=0.415, P=0.00). GFR determined by various formulas using cystatin C had lower correlation to creatinine clearance (r=0.187, r=0.187, r=0.291). The Schwartz and Counahan formulas showed greater diagnostic accuracy in detecting decreased GFR than cystatin C in group 2 (areas under the curve: Schwartz, 0.596; Counahan, 0.572; Filler, 0.512; Bokencamp, 0.508; and Grubb, 0.514). Conclusion : GFR determined by the Schwartz and Counahan formulas using serum creatinine showed higher correlation coefficient than that determined by formulas using cystatin C. The formulas using cystatin C were not superior to those using serum creatinine in detecting decreased GFR. Cystatin C measurement was not satisfactory for assessing GFR in patients whose renal function was not severely decreased.

Modified Ultrafiltration in Pediatric Open Heart Surgery (소아개심술에서의 변형초여과법)

  • Background: This study has proven the effect of modified ultrafiltration(MUF) performed after the cessation of cardiopulmonary bypass in pediatric patients who underwent open heart surgery. Material and Method: From Jan. to Dec. 1997, modified ultrafiltration was performed after cardiopulmonary bypass in 50 infants with cyanotic heart disease and the results were compared to the control group of 50 patients with cyanotic heart disease in whom modified ultrafiltration was not used. Changes of hematocrit, central venous pressure, systolic and diastolic pressure, heart rate and body weight were compared. Result: Age and body weight were not different(p=0.38, p=0.46). Disease categories were similar. Average filtering volume was 60.0$\pm$29.2cc/kg for 7.0$\pm$2.4minutes of filtration. Mean hematocrit after filtration(MUF=36.1%, control=26.4%, p=0.001) was higher in the MUF group. Systolic (p=0.0001) and diastolic blood pressure(p=0.0001) were observed to increase more and the central venous pressure(p=0.02) and the heart rate(p=0.02) were lower after filtration in the MUF group. Conclusion: This study demonstrated that modified ultrafiltration after cardiopulmonary bypass was a technically feasible option to improve the post-surgical course through the effective hemoconcentration, hemodynamic improvements, and body water control.

Effect of Growth and Yield with SCB Leachate Application Rates in Rice (SCB 퇴비단 여과액비의 시용 수준이 벼 생육과 수량에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was carried out to determine the effect of SCB compost leachate on the growth and yield of rice. Field experiment was conducted on sandy loam soil under the different fertilizer management; 80%, 100%, 130% N level of SCB leachate based on 13kg N/10a of conventional farmer application level and chemical fertilizer as control. The plant height and tiller's number of 80 and 100% N levels of SCB leachate were lower than that of the chemical fertilizer plot. But in the plot of 130% N level of SCB leachate the plant height and tillers was higher than that of chemical fertilizer. And the SPAD reading value of leaf in plot of 130% N level was higher than that of the chemical fertilizer. Rice yield in the 80% and 100% SCB leachate was increased from 12 to 13% that of plot of chemical fertilizer. But rice yield of 130% N-level was decreased 7% compared with chemical fertilizer. Rice quality of the application levels of 80 and 100% SCB leachate levels was significantly better than those of chemical fertilizer and 130% level of SCB leachate. In conclusion, the 100% N application of SCB leachate was improved yield and quality of rice.

Experiment for Reduction Effectiveness of Pollutants with the Improvement of Infiltration Ability in Vegetation Filter Strip (식생여과대내 침투능력 향상에 따른 오염물질 저감효과에 대한 실험)

  • Soil layer in vegetation filter strip is one of the very important factor for reduction of non-point pollutants by physical, chemical and biological reactions of it through infiltration process. This study was carried out to prepare more effective vegetation filter strip through modification of soil layer for river water quality improvement. Therefore, the main aims of this study are to compare and evaluate normal (straighten type) and modified (step type) vegetation filter strip, which make artificially change the soil layer to improve infiltration ability, through bench scale experiments. In the results of this study, vegetation filter strip of step type is much more highly reduction effectiveness of pollutants in surface flow compared with normal vegetation filter strip. In case of below effluent, however, it appeared that the vegetation filter strip modified soil layer showed lower reduction effectiveness of pollutants than the general vegetation filter strip. This result was judged because effluent through the vegetation filter strip of step type passed bigger size of aggregate or sand than the vegetation filter strip of straighten type. If we compare it as a definition of pollutant load to estimate total amount of reduced pollutants by vegetation filter strip, reduced pollutants load by step type showed higher than those by straighten type because below effluent amount relied on total effluent amount was higher at step type (4%) than at straighten type (2%). In conclusion, the vegetation filter strip of step type to improve infiltration effect is much more reduction effectiveness of pollutants than vegetation filter strip of straighten type.

Study on the Limit of Water Content by Cake Filtration and Effective Operation in Filtration-Expression Process (여과에 의한 케이크 함수량의 한계와 효율적인 여과-압착 조작 조건에 대한 연구)

  • The definition of cake is not established for cake filtration, and especially the definition was impossible for the filtration of the floc already sedimented. The definition is proposed with the experimental method named 'filtration-permeation'. The limit of water content which can be achieved with cake filtration of floc was established with the definition of cake. The expression operation of which the purpose is to reduce the water content of pre-formed filter cake is calculated with our 'unified theory on solid-liquid separation' and compared with the experimental results. The importance of expression is analyzed by the calculated whole procedure of cake filtration and expression. The method determining the most effective operational conditions of filter press including the cake discharge and washing time is proposed.

  • 웹 개인화 기술의 발달은 많은 업체들이 기존 고객의 유지와 신규 고객의 확보를 위한 수단을 제공하였다. 현재의 개인화 기술은 크게 내용 기반 그리고 협력적 정보 여과 방식에 기반한 기술로 나뉘어질 수 있다. 내용 기반 정보 여과 방식에 기반한 개인화 기술은 멀티미디어 정보로 표현된 대부분의 웹 오브젝트(페이지, 이미지, 동영상, 사운드, 상품 등)에는 적용하기 어렵고, 협력적 정보 여과방식은 Cold Start Problem과 단일 도메인내에서의 개인화 서비스만이 가능하다는 문제점이 있다. 본 논문에서는 협력적 정보 여과 방식과 데이터 마이닝 기술 중의 연관 규칙 생성 방법을 혼합한 웹 개인화 시스템을 제안한다. 다양한 멀티미디어 형태로 표현되는 웹 오브젝트의 내용 분석이 어려우므로, 각각의 오브젝트를 하나의 아이템으로 인식하고 개인화 서비스를 시도하는 협력적 정보 여과 방식을 채택하였다. 협력적 정보 여과의 결과로 발견된 도메인별 유사 사용자의 웹 오브젝트 사용 정보를 연관 규칙 생성 알고리즘에 적용하여 오브젝트간의 연관성을 발견한다. 발견된 오브젝트간의 연관성은 서로 다른 정보 도메인의 오브젝트가 현재 사용자에게 흥미있는 것인가를 예측할 수 있는 자료로서 사용될 수 있다. 협력적 정보 여과 방식에 의해 생성된 오브젝트의 선호도값과 오브젝트 연관성 정보를 비교하여 사용자에게 개인화된 웹 서비스를 제공한다.

Harmonic Mean Weight by Combining Content Based Filtering and Collaborative Filtering in a Recommender System (내용 기반 여과와 협력적 여과의 병합을 통한 추천 시스템에서 조화 평균 가중치)

  • Recent recommender system user a method of combining collaborative filtering system and content based filtering system in order to slove the problem of the Sparsity and First-Rater in collaborative filtering system. In this paper, to make up for the prediction accuracy in hybrid Recommender system, the harmonic mean weight(CBCF_harmonic_mean) is used for calculating the user similarity weight. After setting up the threshold as 45 considering the performance of content based filtering, we apply significance weight of n/45 to user similarity weight. To estimate the performance of the proposed method, it if compared with that of combing both the existing collaborative filtering system and the content- based filtering system. As a result, it confirms that the suggested method is efficient at improving the prediction accuracy as solving problems of the exiting collaborative filtering system.

Extended R-Tree with Grid Filter for Efficient Filtering (효율적인 여과를 위한 그리드 필터를 갖는 R-Tree 의 확장)

  • When we use R-Tree,a spatial index, to find objects matches some predicate, it often leads to an incorrect result of perform filtering step only with MBR. And , each candidates need to be inspected to conform if it really satisfies with given query, so called, 'refinement step'. In refinement step. we should perform disk I/O and expansive spatial operations which is the cause of increasing retrieval costs. Therefore, to minimize the number of candidate after filtering step, two-phase filtering methods were studied, but there was many problems such as inefficiency of filtering,maintenance of additional informations and reconstruction of data resulted from the loss of original information. So , in this paper, I propose an Extended R-Tree which provides ability to retrieve spatial objects only with some simple logical operations using Grid Table, truth table strong the information about the existence of spatial objects, in second filtering step. Consequently , this Extended R-Tree using Grid Filter has low cost of operation for filtering because of efficient second filtering step, and better filtering efficiency caused by high quality of approximation.

Effect of Inorganic Particles on Organic Fouling in Pressurized Membrane Filtration (가압식 분리막 여과에서 무기입자의 존재가 유기파울링에 미치는 영향)

  • In this study, effect of inorganic particles on organic fouling was investigated by a laboratory-scaled pressurized membrane filtration. In order to cause organic fouling, sodium alginate (SA) was used as a feed solution. Regardless of the presence of inorganic SiO2 particles, the complete pore blocking played an important role in determining the fouling rate during the initial period of membrane filtration. However, the formation of cake layer resulted in the membrane fouling more dominantly as filtration time progressed. In the presence of inorganic particles, both specific cake resistance and compressibility associated with the membrane fouling formed were relatively lower than that without SiO2 particles. Membrane fouling was more severe at constant flux mode of filtration than that observed at constant pressure mode probably due to the concomitant increase of compressibility of fouling layer with transmembrane pressure (TMP). It was found that the presence of SA and SiO2 particles in feed solution provided the synergistic effect on the hydraulic backwashing to reduce membrane fouling as compared to the SA solution alone without the inorganic particles.

The Effect on Treatment Performance of Fiber Filter Under Various Packing-Density and Filtration Velocity (충진밀도와 여과속도가 섬유사 여과기의 처리 성능에 미치는 영향)

  • A flexile fiber filter developed in Korea was operated to evaluate the effect of packing density and filtration velocity on particle removal. The pilot-scale fiber filter with 40 cm of diameter and 2 m of height was packed with polyamide fibers of which mean diameter was approximately 0.93 mm. While the filtration velocity was maintained at 325 m/hr, the particle removal efficiency was compared with various of packing density from $70kg/m^3\;to\;100kg/m^3$. On the contrary, when the packing density was maintained at $70kg/m^3$, the particle removal efficiency was examined with various filtration velocity from 65 m/hr to 400 m/hr. The filtration pressure increased with the packing-density increase. Below $80kg/m^3$ of packing density, the removal efficiencies of turbidity ad SS were less than 30% and 50%, respectively. At $100kg/m^3$ of packing density, the removal efficiencies of them were nearly 45% and 60% respectively. The filtration pressure increased with the filtration-velocity increase. A better removal efficiency was obtained at a lower filtration velocity, removal efficiency of them were 73% at 65 m/hr. Consequently, The filtration velocity was the more important factor to enhance the particle removal efficiency compared with the packing density in fiber filter.
