Entropy-Constrained Sample-Adaptive Product Quantizer Design for the High Bit-Rate Quantization (고 전송률 양자화를 위한 엔트로피 제한 표본 적응 프로덕트 양자기 설계)

  • In this paper, an entropy constrained vector quantizer for high bit-rates is proposed. The sample-adaptive product quantizer (SAPQ), which is based on the product codebooks, is employed, and a design algorithm for the entropy constrained sample adaptive product quantizer (ECSAPQ) is proposed. The performance of the proposed ECSAPQ is better than the case of the entropy constrained vector quantizer by 0.5dB. It is also shown that the ECSAPQ distortion curve, which is based on the scalar quantizer, is lower than the high-rate theoretical curve of the entropy constrained scalar quantizer, where the theoretical curve have 1.53dB difference from Shannon's lower bound.

  • 최근 기후변화 때문에 태풍, 호우 등 자연재해로 수방시설물의 피해규모가 커지고 있으며 이러한 피해는 단일 재해요인이 아닌 여러 재해요인이 복합적으로 작용하여 발생하고 있다. 그러므로 도시의 안전성과 방재기능을 확보하기 위해서는 복합위험요소를 고려한 재해위험도의 진단 기술 및 종합적인 재해경감대책 수립을 위한 연구가 필요한 실정이다. 복합위험요소를 고려한 재해위험도 및 재해경감대책을 수립하기 위해서는 도시재해를 유발하는 다양한 요인들이 도시재해에 미치는 영향과 재해요인 중에서 어떠한 재해요인이 도시재해에 더 큰 영향을 미치는지에 대한 검토가 필요하다. 이에 본 연구에서는 정보전달 이론 중의 하나인 엔트로피 방법을 이용하여 복합위험요소를 고려하여 도시지역에 대한 재해위험도를 나타내는 복합위험지수의 가중치를 산정하고자 하였다. 복합위험지수의 가중치는 지표별 속성정보를 추출하여 정규화 과정을 거친 후, 속성별 엔트로피를 산정하여 지표별로 산정된다. 엔트로피 방법에 따라 산정된 가중치는 다른 가중치 산정 방법에 따라 산정된 가중치와의 비교 분석을 통하여 타당성을 검토할 것이며, 이렇게 산정된 가중치를 복합위험지수 산정에 적용한다면, 보다 현실성 있는 도시재해 위험성 또는 취약성 지수로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

  • This paper comes to derive optimal decision rule from incomplete information using the concept of indiscernibility relation and approximation space in Rough set. As there may be some errors in case that processing information contains multiple or missing data, the method of removing or minimizing these data is required. Entropy which is used to measure uncertainty or quantity in information processing field is utilized to remove the incomplete information of rough relation database. But this paper does not always deal with the information system which may be contained incomplete information. This paper is proposed object relation entropy and attribute relation entropy using Rough set as information theoretical measures in order to remove the incomplete information which may contain condition attribute and decision attribute of information system.

  • 내러티브의 복잡도는 수용자의 이해와 흥미에 직접적으로 영향을 미치기 때문에 창작과정에서 체계적으로 관리되어야 한다. 본 논문에서는 내러티브 구성에 있어서의 지식 분배 작업에 초점을 맞추어 정보 엔트로피 개념을 활용한 복잡도 평가 방법을 개발하였다. 수용자의 지식상태 변화 과정에서 발생하는 정보량을 엔트로피로 계산하여 복잡도 척도로 활용하였다. 실제 영화 내러티브를 대상으로 사례 연구를 수행하였고, 본 방법이 내러티브의 구조적 특성과 전개과정에서의 변화를 효과적으로 반영함을 확인하였다.

  • 최근, 스마트폰이 널리 보급됨에 따라, 모바일 어플리케이션의 UI에 대한 연구가 활발히 이루어지고 있다. 그중 다수의 메뉴를 가진 어플리케이션의 경우는 메뉴의 배치를 통하여 사용자의 편의성과 심미성을 동시에 만족시켜야 한다. 본 논문은 어플리케이션 내의 여러 메뉴를 설계할 경우 몇 개의 메뉴를 어떻게 배치할 것인가에 대해 정보이론의 엔트로피에 기반을 둔 기법을 제안하고, 이를 국내 대표 포털 사이트인 네이버 어플리케이션에 적용하여 분석한 결과를 보인다.

  • Optimal quantizers in conducting the entropy-constrained quantization for high bit rates have the lattice structure. The quantization process is simple due to the regular structure, and various quantization algorithms are proposed depending on the lattice. Such a lattice vector quantizer (VQ) can be implemented by using the sample-adaptive product quantizer (SAPQ) and its output can also be easily entropy encoded. In this paper, the entropy encoding scheme for the lattice VQ is proposed based on SAPQ, and the performance of the proposed lattice VQ, which is based on SAPQ with the entropy coder, is asymptotically compared as the rate increases. It is shown by experiment that the gain for the memoryless Gaussian source also approaches the theoretic gain for the uniform density case.

Moving Object Detection using Clausius Entropy and Adaptive Gaussian Mixture Model (클라우지우스 엔트로피와 적응적 가우시안 혼합 모델을 이용한 움직임 객체 검출)

  • A real-time detection and tracking of moving objects in video sequences is very important for smart surveillance systems. In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm for the detection of moving objects that is the entropy-based adaptive Gaussian mixture model (AGMM). First, the increment of entropy generally means the increment of complexity, and objects in unstable conditions cause higher entropy variations. Hence, if we apply these properties to the motion segmentation, pixels with large changes in entropy in moments have a higher chance in belonging to moving objects. Therefore, we apply the Clausius entropy theory to convert the pixel value in an image domain into the amount of energy change in an entropy domain. Second, we use an adaptive background subtraction method to detect moving objects. This models entropy variations from backgrounds as a mixture of Gaussians. Experiment results demonstrate that our method can detect motion object effectively and reliably.

The annual variation pattern and regional division of weather eatropy in South Korea (남한의 일기엔트로피의 연변화유형과 지역구분)

  • The characteristics of weather and climate in South Korea has great influences on the annual variation pattern and the appearance of the prevailing weather. The purpose of this paper is to induce the quantity of the weather entropy and annual variation pattern using the information theory and the principal component analysis. And author tried to classify the region according to the variation of its space scale, The raw materials used for this study are the daily cloudiness and precipitation during the years 1990-1994 at 69 stations in South Korea. It is divided into four classes of fine, clear, cloudy and rainy. The rcsults of this study can be summarized as follows: 1. Thc characteristics of annual variation pattern of weather entropy can be chiefly divided into five categories and the accumulated contributory rate of these is 73.1%. 2. Annual variation pattern of the first principal component reaches smaller in May, April and September than national average, and becomes greater when the winter comes. This weather entropy's quantity(Rs1) is positive in most area to the western sife of Soback Mountains and negative in most seaside area to the eastern side of Soback Mountains. 3. The characteristics of annual variation pattern of the second principal component shows that the entropy is more smaller in summer than national average and the rest of seasons shows larger, especially in January, May and September. This weather entropy's quantity(Rs2) is positive in most Honam Inland area to the western side of Soback Mountains and negative in most Youngnam Inland area to the eastern side of Soback Mountains. 4. Eight type regions (S1-S11) are classified based on the occurrences of minimum weather entropy in South Korea, and annual variation pattern of weather entropy by principal component analysis may be classified into sixteen type regions (Rs1-Rs9). Putting these things together, South Korea can be classifieed into thirty one type regions (Rs1S7-Rs9S10).

  • A theory of liquid water is developed by assuming that the molecules in the liquid state have solid-like and gas-like degrees of freedom. The spectroscopic data are used in assigning the vibrational frequencies of solid-like molecules. The calculated values of molar volume, vapor pressure, entropy, entropy of vaporization, expansion coefficient, compressibility, heat capacities at constant volume and at constant pressure, surface tension and critical point properties are all in excellent agreement with the observed data.

  • Hydrogen atom transfer reactions, $RNH_2+CH_3{\to}RNH+CH_4\;where\;R=H\;and\;CH_3$, were studied by MINDO/3 MO method. It is expected that stable complex may exist between $CH_3\;and\;NH_3$. Transition state characteristics and activation parameters including activation entropies have been determined. In cases of absolute and activation entropies, results are found to agree in general with ab initio and experimental values, wherever comparisions are possible.
