  • Polypropylene (PP)/corn starch master batch(starch-MB) blends with different PP compositions of 90, 80, 70, and 60 wt% were prepared by melt compounding at $200^{\circ}C$, using lab scale Brabender mixer. The chemical structures, thermal properties and non-isothermal crystallization behavior of the PP/starch-MB blends were investigated by FT-infrared spectrometry (FT-IR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA). The fabrication of the PP/starch-MB blend was confirmed by the existence of hydroxy group in FT-IR spectrum. There was no district change in melting temperature and melting enthalpy, and TGA curve indicates a decrease in degradation temperature with starch-MB content. The non-isothermal crystallization process was analyzed using by Avrami equation. The Avrami exponents were in the range of 2.71-3.97 for PP and 1.48-1.99 for PP/starch-MB blonds. The activation energies calculated by Kissinger method were 233 kJ/mol for PP, 484 kJ/mol for PP90, 541 kJ/mol for PP80, 553 kJ/mol for PP70, and 422 kJ/mol for PP60.

  • In this paper, the adsorption behavior and kinetic characteristics of cibacron brilliant red 3B-A from aqueous solution using granular activated carbon were investigated. The effect of various parameters such as adsorbent dose, pH, initial concentration, contact time and temperature on the adsorption system were studied. Base on the estimated Langmuir constant ($R_L$) and Freundlich constant (1/n), This process could be employed as effective treatment method. From the Temkin constant (B) and Dubinin-Radushkevich constant (E), This adsorption process is physical adsorption. From kinetic experiments, the adsorption process followed the pseudo second order model with good correlation. Base on the Gibbs free energy and enthalpy, the adsorption of cibacron brilliant red 3B-A onto granular activated carbon was physisorption and endothermic in nature.

  • Steady-state sublimation vapour pressures of anhydrous bismuth trichloride have been measured by the continuous gravimetric Knudsen effusion method from 370.6 to 488.8 K. Additional effusion measurements have also been made from 438.2 to 495.7 K by the torsion effusion method. Based on a correlation of ${\Delta}_H0298$.15 and ${\Delta}_H0298$.15, a recommended p(T) equation has been obtained for BiCl3(s); log(p/Pa)=-C/(T/K)-2.838log(T/K)-8.097${\times}$10-2(K/T)2+22.588, where p is in Pa, T in Kelvin and ${\Delta}_H0298$.15 in kJmo1-1 and C=(${\Delta}_H0298$.15+5.9988)/1.9146${\times}$10-2. Condensation coefficients and their temperature dependence have been derived from the effusion measurements.

  • Batch adsorption studies were carried out for equilibrium, kinetics and thermodynamic parameters for adsorption of coomassi brilliant blue G (CBBG) using activated carbon with varying the operating variables like initial concentration, contact time and temperature. Equilibrium adsorption data were fitted into Langmuir, Freundlich and Dubinin-Radushkevich isotherms. From estimated separation factor of Langmuir and Freundlich, this process could be employed as effective treatment for removal of CBBG. Also from Dubinin-Radushkevich isotherm model, adsorption energy (E) indicated adsorption process is physical adsorption. From kinetic experiments, the adsorption reaction was found to confirm to the pseudo second order model with good correlation. Intraparticle diffusion was rate controlling step. Thermodynamic parameters like change of free energy, enthalpy, and entropy were also calculated to predict the nature of adsorption. The change of enthalpy (406.12 kJ/mol) indicated endothermic nature of the adsorption process. The change of entropy (1.66 kJ/mol K) showed increasing disorder in process. The change of free energy found that the spontaneity of process increased with increasing adsorption temperature.

  • Adsorption characteristics of acid green 27 dye using activated carbon were investigated as function of adsorbent dose, pH, initial concentration, contact time and temperature. Freundlich isotherm explained adsorption of acid green 27 dye very well and Freundlich separation factors (1/n=0.293~0.387) were found that this process could be employed as effective treatment method. Kinetic studies showed that the kinetic data were well described by the pseudo second-order kinetic model. Pseudo second rate constant ($k_2$) decreased with the increase in initial acid green 27 concentration. Activation energy (10.457 kJ/mol) and enthalpy (79.946 kJ/mol) indicated that adsorption process was physisorption and endothermic. Since Gibbs free energy decreased with increasing temperature, spontaneity of adsorption reaction increased with increasing temperature in the temperature range of 298 K~318 K.

  • Specific rates of solvolysis of 1-adamantyl fluoroformate in hydroxylic solvents have been measured by an electric conductivity method under various pressures. The activation parameters (${\Delta}V^{\neq}{_o},\;{\Delta}{\beta}^{\neq},\;{Delta}H^{\neq},\;{Delta}S^{\neq}$,/TEX>) and average pressure within the solvation-shell of activated complex (charge development) have been estimated from the rates. Also, the selectivities for the formation of solvolysis products in aqueous ethanol have been determined by response-calibrated GC. The values of ${\Delta}V^{\neq}{_o},\;and\;{\Delta}{\beta}^{\neq}$ are both negative, but ${Delta}H^{\neq}$ is positive and ${Delta}S^{\neq}$, is large negative. This behavior is discussed in terms of electrostriction of solvation. From these results, it could be postulated that the solvolysis of 1-adamantyl fluoroformate have two major reaction pathway.

  • The rates of solvolylsis of methyl chloroformate, phenyl chloroformate and 1-adamantyl derivatives in binary solvent mixtures have been measured by conductometric method at various temperatures and pressures. The activation parameters were estimated from the rate constants. The activation volume (${\Delta}V_o^{\neq}$) and the activation entropy (${\Delta}S^{\neq}$) are both negative, but the activation enthalpy (${\Delta}H^{\neq}$) is positive. This behavior is discussed in terms of electrostriction of solvation. The reactivities of these reactions were also estimated from the correlation of the activation volumes with the activation entropies. From these results, it could be estimated that the solvolyses of 1-adamantyl fluoroformate (in aqueous TFE) and 1-adamantyl tosylate have pathway involving unimolecular reaction, while the reaction of methyl chloroformate, phenyl chloroformate and 1-adamantyl fluoroformate (in aqueous alcohol) proceed through a bimolecular reaction.

  • Adsorption of brilliant blue FCF dye from aqueous solution using coconut shell based activated carbon was investigated. Batch experiments were carried out as function of adsorbent dose, initial concentration, contact time and temperature. The equilibrium adsorption data were analyzed by Langmuir and Freundlich model. The results indicate that Freundlich model provides the best correlation of the experimental data. Base on the estimated Freundlich constant (1/n=0.129~0.212), this process could be employed as effective treatment method. Adsorption kinetics experimental data were modeled using the pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order kinetic equation. It was shown that pseudo-second-order kinetic equation could best describe the adsorption kinetics. Base on the negative Gibbs free energy value (-4.81~-10.33 kJ/mol) and positive enthalpy value (+78.59 kJ/mol) indicate that the adsorption is spontaneous and endothermic process.

  • Ultraviolet spectrophotometric investigation has been carried out on the system of iododestannylation iodine and tetramethyltin in methanol. The transient CT absorption spectrum can be observed and the subsequent disappearance of CT absorption spectrum was accompained by the cleavage of tetramethyltin with iodine. From there, the rate constants for the iododestannylation were determined at 10, 25 and 35$^{\circ}C$ up to 1600 bar and the reaction rates were increased with increasing temperature and pressure. From these rate constants, the values of the activation parameters (${\Delta}V^\neq,\;{\Delta}{\beta}^{\neq},\;{\Delta}H^{\neq},\;{\Delta}S^{\neq}\;and\;{\Delta}G^{\neq}$) were obtained. The activation volumes and activation compressibility coefficients were both negativity. The activation enthalpies were positive and activation entropies had large negative values. From these values discussed in terms of solvent structure variation of transition state and mechanism. From these results, it was found that the reaction is followed with $S_E2$ mechaenism and weakened $S_E2$ mechanism nature by increasing pressure.

  • Adsorption experiments of Acid Yellow 14 dye using activated carbon were carried out as function of adsorbent dose, pH, initial concentration, contact time and temperature. The equilibrium adsorption data were analyzed by Langmuir, Freundlich and Temkin isotherm model. The experimental data were best represented by Freundlich isotherm model. Base on the estimated Freundlich constant (1/n=0.129~0.212) and Langmuir separation factor ($R_L=0.202{\sim}0.243$), this process could be employed as effective treatment method. The heat of adsorption of Temkin isotherm model was 5.101~9.164 J/mol indicated that the adsorption process followed a physical adsorption. Adsorption kinetics experimental data were modeled using the pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order kinetic equation. It was shown that pseudo-second-order kinetic equation could best describe the adsorption kinetics. Base on the negative Gibbs free energy (-4.81~-10.33 kJ/mol) and positive enthalpy (+78.59 kJ/mol) indicate that the adsorption is spontaneous and endothermic process.
