Influence of Red LED Treatment on Photosynthesis, Vegetative Growth and Fruit Quality in 'Fuji'/M.26 Apple Trees during Night (야간 적색 LED 처리가 'Fuji'/M.26 사과나무의 광합성, 영양생장 및 과실 품질에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to find out the influence of red LED (Light Emitting Diode) lighting on the photosynthesis, vegetative growth and fruit quality of 'Fuji'/M.26 adult apple tree during night after sunset. The photosynthetic rate, stomatal conductance and transpiration rate at daytime of red LED treatments was not different to those of the control. However, the stomatal conductance and transpiration rate at the nighttime of red LED treatments were lower than those of the control, and the red LED lighting during night after sunset was not induce to photosynthesize at nighttime. In the leaf characteristics, the red LED lighting seemed to increase leaf area and C/N ratio, but decrease SPAD value. The bourse shoot length of the red LED treatments was shorter than that of the control. In the fruit quality, the red LED lighting seemed to increase ethylene production, respiration rate, soluble solid content and fruit red color, and especially the fruit red color tend to increase as the red LED lighting time was longer. In conclusion, the red LED lighting during night after sunset of 'Fuji'/M.26 apple tree promoted the fruit maturation.

인공관절의 수명 향상을 위해 PIII&D (Plasma Immersion Ion Implantation & Deposition) 기술로 제조된 인공관절용 NbN 박막의 마모 특성 평가

  • 인공관절은 노인성 질환이나 자가 면역질환, 신체적인 외상 등으로 인하여 발생하는 관절의 손상 부위를 대체하기 위해 고안된 관절의 인공 대용물이다. 인공 관절 중 인공 고관절의 경우 관절 운동을 하는 라이너(Liner)와 헤드(Head) 부분이 인공관절의 수명을 결정하게 되는데, 헤드 부분에 메탈소재와 라이너 부분에 고분자 소재를 사용하는 MOP (metal on polymer) 구조의 인공관절은 충격흡수의 장점이 있는 반면 wear debris에 의한 골용해로 인하여 관절이 느슨해지는 문제점이 발생하여 재 시술의 주요 원인이 되고 있다. 또한 메탈 헤드의 마모로 인한 금속이온의 용출은 세포 독성의 문제를 야기하여 인공관절의 수명을 낮추는 또 하나의 요인이 되고 있다. 따라서 인공관절의 수명을 늘리기 위해 DLC, ZrO, TiN 등의 높은 경도 값을 갖는 박막을 금속 헤드 위에 증착하여 상대재인 인공관절용 고분자 소재의 마모량을 줄이고자 하는 연구가 활발하게 진행 되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 PIII&D (Plasma Immersion Ion Implantation & Deposition)공정을 이용하여 Co-Cr-Mo 합금 소재 niobium nitride (NbN) 박막을 증착하여 상대제인 UHMWPE (ultra high molecular polyethylene)의 마모를 줄이고자 하는 연구를 진행하였다. 마모량을 감소시키기 위하여, 박막 증착전에 질소를 이온주입하는 pre-ion implantation 공정을 도입하였으며, 또한 Co-Cr 합금과 NbN박막 사이의 접착력을 증가시키기 위하여 박막의 증착 초기에 이온주입과 증착을 동시에 수행하는 dynamic ion mixing공정을 수행하였다. NbN 박막의 특성을 평가하기 위해 XRD, XPS, AFM 등의 분석을 수행하였으며, 상대재인 초고분자량 폴리에틸렌의 마모량을 측정하기 위해 Pin-on-disk tester를 이용하여 마모 실험을 진행하였다. 마모 실험 결과, pre-ion implantation 공정을 도입한 경우 현재 상용화 되어있는 Co-Cr 합금에 비하여 마모량을 2배 이상 감소시키는 것을 확인 할 수 있었으며, dynamic ion mixing 공정을 도입한 경우 장시간의 마모 시험에 대한 마모 특성이 향상 되는 것을 확인 할 수 있었다.

Effect of Temperature Pre-conditioning on Fruit Quality of Early-season 'Hanareum' Pears (Pyrus pyrifolia Nakai) during Simulated Marketing (조생종 '한아름' 배 모의유통 전 예건처리 온도가 품질에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to establish postharvest management techniques including a temperature pre-conditioning protocol for maintaining fruit quality in newly developed early-season Korean pear cultivar 'Hanareum' (Pyrus pyrifolia Nakai). The fruits were treated with three different pre-conditioning temperatures (21, 25, or $29^{\circ}C$) for 4 days according to the harvest time (103 or 110 days after full bloom, DAFB). The percent weight loss was relatively low in the fruits subjected to low pre-conditioning temperature regardless of harvest time. The firmness of the fruits treated with pre-conditioning at $21^{\circ}C$ remained high during 20 days of simulated marketing at $25^{\circ}C$, although all treated fruits showed a general decline of firmness with extended time of simulated marketing. These fruits also showed higher appearance and a lower incidence of mealiness disorder symptoms. During the experimental periods, the production of ethylene was lower in the fruits pre-conditioned at $21^{\circ}C$ in comparison with those of treated at 25 and $29^{\circ}C$. High respiration rates were obvious in the fruits pre-conditioned at high temperature ($29^{\circ}C$), especially in the optimum-harvested fruits, where respiration was approximately two times higher than that of fruits exposed to $21^{\circ}C$ during pre-conditioning. However, the respiration rate was similar during simulated marketing at $25^{\circ}C$ regardless of harvest time. These results demonstrated that temperature pre-conditioning at $21^{\circ}C$ is a simple and effective postharvest technique for summer harvested Korean pear cultivars including 'Hanareum'.

  • 미나리 묘를 대량으로 생산하는데 있어서 체세포배를 이용하는 방법이 매우 유리하다. 체세포배는 계절에 영향을 받지 않고 좁은 공간에서 한꺼번에 많은 량의 묘를 생산할 수 있다. 또한 생물반응기 등을 이용하여 대량 생산할 수 있으면 실생묘를 대체할 수 있을 것으로 생각된다. 배양기 내의 공기 환경의 영향은 삼각플라스크를 이용한 소규모 배양에서는 문제가 되지 않았지만 배양기가 커짐에 따라 공기 환경의 변화도 커져 체세포배의 발생과 발아에 영향을 미친다. 체세포배를 배양하는 기간은 배발생과 발아로 나누어, 세포에서 배가 발생하는 처음 2주 동안에는 밀폐 환경, 즉 환기가 거의 되지 않는 환경이 유리하지만 이후의 발아 동안에는 산소를 많이 요구한다. 삼각플라스크를 이용한 소규모 배양에서는 aluminum foil을 플라스크의 뚜껑으로 하여, 배지를 교체할 때를 제외하고는 배발생과 발아가 진행되는 전 배양 기간 동안 이를 유지한다. 배가 발생하는 초기 2주의 경우는 이 밀폐 환경이 발아를 촉진시킨다. 그러나 배가 발아하여 정상 식물체로 발달하는데는 유리하지 않다. 체세포배는 발아할 때 산소를 많이 필요로 하며 에틸렌이 많이 축적되면 발아율이 낮아지며, 적절한 공기 환경이 주어지면 체세포배 발아가 동조화되어 균일한 묘를 얻을 수 있고 수확시기도 예측할 수 있다. 본 실험에서는 배가 발아하는 기간 동안 플라스크 내의 공기 환경을 다르게 하기 위해 플라스크를 막는 뚜껑의 소재를 달리하여 배양한 후 발아율을 측정하였다. 또한 가장 효율적인 환기량을 구명하기 위하여 인위적으로 플라스크에 공기를 넣어 강제 환기시키는 실험을 수행하였다. 미나리 cell은 처음 8일까지는 생장을 하지 않다가 이후 급속히 생장을 시작하여 35일 정도까지는 생장을 하다가 다시 생장이 둔화되었다. 밀폐시킨 삼각플라스크에서 자라는 Cell은 상태도 좋지 않고 전반적인 증식량도 적었다. Cell은 환기정도에 민감한 것으로 판단되며 삼각플라스크에서 약 35일 정도의 생장 주기를 가지는 것으로 사료된다. 배양 3주까지는 플라스틱 뚜껑으로 밀폐시킨 bottle에서 가장 많은 체세포배를 얻었다. Air filter를 달아 2일 마다 신선한 공기를 넣어 주었을 때는 배의 발달이 많이 늦어져 배양 3주째에 다른 처리보다 배의 수가 훨씬 적었다. 체세포배가 발달하는 동안에는 산소를 많이 요구하지 않으나 성숙하는 동안에는 산소를 많이 요구하는 것으로 생각된다.

Effects of Active Modified Atmosphere Packaging on the Storability of Fresh-cut Paprika (Active MAP가 파프리카 신선편이 저장성에 미치는 영향)

  • The processing techniques are need to use the non-marketable paprika fruit because paprika that is difficult crop for cultivation and produced easily non-marketable fruits, such as physiological disorder fruit, malformed fruit, and small size fruit. This study was carried out to investigate the proper active modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) condition for enhancing the storability of fresh-cut paprika fruit. The fresh-cut paprika (cv 'Score', seminis) put into $7cm{\times}0.7cm$ size and packed them in 20 g bags. The active MAP and vacuum treated paprika fruits were packaged with LLDPE/Nylon, EVOH, Tie film, and injected partial pressures of $CO_2$ and $O_2$, and $N_2$ in the packages immediately after sealing to treat active MAP. The ratio of $CO_2$, $O_2$, and $N_2$ of active MAP conditions were 0 : 20 : 80 (air), 5 : 5 : 90, 30 : 10 : 60, 10 : 70 : 20 and vacuum treatment did not contain any gas. The passive packaging treated paprika packaged with $40{\mu}m$ ceramic film. After 7 days of storage at $9^{\circ}C$, the fresh weight decreased less than 2% in all treatments, and showed lower in 5 : 5 : 90 ($CO_2:O_2:N_2$) active-MAP treatment and higher in vacuum treatment than other treatments. The $CO_2$ and $O_2$ concentration in packages did not change remarkably in active-MA treatments except 30 : 10 : 60 active-MAP treatment that showed sharply decreased $O_2$, concentration and increased $CO_2$ concentration at $1^{st}$ day of storage at $9^{\circ}C$. The ethylene concentration in package was the highest in 30 : 10 : 60 active-MAP treatment and the lowest in the passive MAP treatment that packaged with gas permeable film during $9^{\circ}C$ storage for 7 days. The 30 : 10 : 60 active-MAP treatments were not proper condition to storage fresh-cut paprika. The visual quality was maintained higher in 0 : 20 : 80 (air), 5 : 5 : 90, and 10 : 70 : 20 active MAP treatments and passive MAP treatment than others and the firmness, off-odor, and electrolyte leakage was investigated at 7th day of storage at $9^{\circ}C$. The 5 : 5 : 90 and 10 : 70 : 20 active-MAP treatment showed higher firmness and lower off-odor than other treatments after $7^{th}$ day of storage at $9^{\circ}C$. In addition, the electrolyte leakage was reduced less than 20% at 0 : 20 : 80 (air), 5 : 5 : 90, 10 : 70 : 20, and passive MA treatments. Therefore, 10 : 70 : 20 ($CO_2:O_2:N_2$) and 0 : 20 : 80 (air) might be recommended for proper active MAP conditions.

Change of quality characteristics in fresh-cut 'Romaine' lettuce by heat treatment (열처리에 따른 신선편이 '로메인' 상추의 품질 특성 변화)

  • This study investigated the effect of heat treatments on the quality characteristics of fresh-cut 'Romaine' lettuce by treating in hot water (45, 50, and $55^{\circ}C$) for 2 minutes. Sensory properties, respiration rate, ethylene production, microbial growth, browning index, total phenolics (TP), vitamin C, and antioxidant properties (DPPH, ABTS, and FRAP assays) of samples were evaluated after 5 days at $5^{\circ}C$. All heat treatment conditions tested in this study did not affect the change in TP after storage. Treatment at $45^{\circ}C$ enhanced respiration rate and ethylene production wheres decreased vitamin C content and antioxidant activities. There was no significant difference in browning index at $45^{\circ}C$ treatment. The rapid tissue softening occurred when treated with $55^{\circ}C$ hot water for 2 minutes. The $50^{\circ}C$ heat treatments exhibited the best quality index including texture and color, and inhibited microbial growth and browning after storage. In addition, the $50^{\circ}C$ heat treatment showed the highest vitamin C content and antioxidant activities (DPPH, ABTS, FRAP assay) after storage. Therefore, the $50^{\circ}C$ heat treatment can be used to maintain quality and antioxidant property of fresh-cut 'Romain' lettuce.

Effects of Various Calcium Salt Spray on Calcium Accumulation into Apple Fruits (Malus domestica Borkh.) (칼슘급원별 수관살포가 사과 과실의 칼슘축적에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the influence of various calcium salts on the accumulation of calcium in apple fruits when sprayed on whole tree. Differences in the total calcium contents of fruits were found between calcium sources and cultivars. In 'Tsugaru' , calcium nitrate, calcium chloride, and calcium carbonate were all effective but only calcium chloride and calcium carbonate appeared to be effective in 'Fuji' . Major parts of the applied calcium were accumulated in the feel and outer flesh. Ethylene evolution of fruit was retarded during storage with the increase of total calcium content in 'Fuji' fruit treated calcium acetate.

Effects of Postharvest Heat Treatment on Alleviation Chilling Injury and Improvement Storability of Oriental Melon (수확 후 고온처리가 참외의 저온장해 완화와 저장성 향상에 미치는 영향)

  • Oriental melons hold at $38^{\circ}C$ for 48 hours before storage increased their soluble solid, titratable acidity, vitamin C contents and ${\alpha}$-tocopherol activity. These heat treated oriental melons maintained lower production of carbon dioxide, ethylene and acetaldehyde and loss of fresh weight than untreated them, called control, during $3^{\circ}C$ MA storage. After 39 days in storage, the last day of storage, visual quality and internal quality, such as firmness, soluble solid, titratable acidity, vitamin C and ${\alpha}$-tocopherol activity, showed higher in heat treated oriental melons. Especially, Ion leakage of flesh, index of chilling injury, increased remarkably in control, so that heat treatment had to alleviate chilling injury in oriental melon. Moreover, while Alternaria rot was shown in control plot after 25 days in $3^{\circ}C$ MA storage, oriental melons treated heat were not appeared any decomposition after 39 days in $3^{\circ}C$ MA storage. As storage life of oriental melon was calculated by regression equation between visual quality and days in storage, that was longer 8 days in heat treated than control. Consequently, heat treatment that was mild, $38^{\circ}C$ and long period, 48 hours, executed before storage, sterilized surface alleviated chilling injury and lengthened storage life in oriental melons.

Effect of 1-methylcyclopropene Treatment on Extension of Freshness and Storage Potential of Fresh Ginseng (1-methylcyclopropene 처리의 수삼의 신선도 유지 및 저장성 연장 효과)

  • Fresh ginseng has a limited storage life due to the quality change caused by microbial spoilage as well as physiological deterioration. The present study investigated the effects of 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) treatment, an inhibitor of ethylene action, on the microbial growth and quality maintenance of fresh ginseng during storage. Harvested fresh ginsengs were treated with $1{\mu}L{\cdot}L^{-1}$ 1-MCP for 20 hours at $4^{\circ}C$ and then stored at room temperature (RT) for 18 days or low temperature ($4^{\circ}C$) for 160 days. After 18 days of storage at RT, the percentage weight loss in 1-MCP treated fresh ginseng (8.3%) is lower than that of control (10.1%). During long-term storage at $4^{\circ}C$, weight losses were increased slightly until 120 days without difference between non-treated and 1-MCP ginsengs. In contrast, after 120 days of storage at $4^{\circ}C$, higher increase in weight loss was observed in non-treated ginsengs than in 1-MCP treated ginsengs. Respiration rate and ethylene production of fresh ginseng were reduced by 1-MCP treatments at RT. The 1-MCP treatment also resulted in lower microbial population compared to those of non-treated ginsengs at RT. However, in ginsengs stored at $4^{\circ}C$ for short-term (45 days), no differences were noted in weight loss and microbial population between 1-MCP treated and non-treated ginsengs. Major ginsenosides was not changed by 1-MCP treatment during the 7 days of storage at RT. Results suggest that 1-MCP treatment can be used to maintain the freshness of ginseng at room temperature for short term storage and at low temperature for long term storage. 1-MCP treatment could be applied on fresh ginseng to avoid deleterious effect of exogenous ethylene during storage and shipping.

Effect of Nutrient Supply Cut-off Periods Before Harvest on Storability of Chicon (수확 전 단수처리가 치콘 저장성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to find out the effect of cut-off period (0 hour, 3 hours, 6 hours, 12 hours, and 24 hours) to supply nutrient solution for chicon forcing at that was predrying treatment on the storability of chicon. The cut-off treatment increased dry matter rate, respiration rate, and ethylene production rate. The dry matter rate of chicon increased, as the cut-off period increased, but the respiration rate and ethylene production rate of chicon was highest in 12 hours and 6 hours cut-off treatment, respectively, and then their rates decreased, as the cut-off period prolonged. The weight loss at cut-off 6 hours treatment was lower than other treatments during $10^{\circ}C$ storage temperature. The cut-off 6 hours treatment showed higher carbon dioxide and oxygen concentration in 10,000 cc/$m^2$/day/atm oxygen permeability film package during storage period than control and showed a little predrying effect but was not statistically significant. At $4^{th}$ day, the ethylene concentration reached higher than other storage day and after that decreased but was not statistically significant. The quality of chicon for 3 hours, 6 hours, 24 hours cut-off treatments on storability showed higher than other treatments, accordingly. The 6 hours cut-off treatment showed the inhibited effect of the degree of browning of chicon cutting plane. The effect of 6 hours cut-off treatment on storability of chicon showed proper predrying effect, reduced moisture loss and browning inhibition apparently during $10^{\circ}C$ storage.
