Fabrication and optimization of ethylene-producing tablet (에틸렌 발생 tablet 제조 및 활성 최적 조건 구명)

  • Ethylene ($C_2H_4$) is a naturally occurring hormone in some fruit. This study was carried out to manufacture ethylene-producing tablets. The Ethylene-producing tablets were manufactured from ethephon and excipient mixtures, including Prosolv, Hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (HPMC) and Crosscamellose. Ethylene production increased with the increases in temperature. In the aspect of pH condition, ethylene productions at pH 7.0 and pH 9.0 were less than 2 ppm. On the other hand, at pH 13.0, ethylene production from the Prosolv, HPMC, and Crosscamellose tablets was 94.05, 126.28, and 100.11 ppm, respectively. The friability of the Prosolv and HPMC tablets were 0.1 and 0.3%, respectively, while the Crosscamellose tablet was 54.1%. indicating that the Crosscarmellose tablet was not appropriate as an ethylene production tablet. In addition, there were huge variations in disintegration times; the Prosolv, Crosscamelose, and HPMC tablets took 1, 5 min, and 7 min more than respectively. Ethylene production was gradually increased up to 20 hr for the Prosolv tablet and then remained stable.

Estimation of storability for Korean apples (Malus domestica) using Md-ACS1 and Md-ACO1 DNA marker (Md-ACS1 및 Md-ACO1 분자표지를 이용한 국내육성사과의 저장성 예측)

  • Apple (Malus domestica) is a climacteric fruit because of its high respiration and ethylene production. Ethylene affects the fruit by decreasing its quality and storability. Md-ACS1 and Md-ACO1 genes are involved in ethylene biosynthesis in apple; the Md-ACS1-2 and Md-ACO1-1 alleles are associated with low ethylene production. We conducted an analysis to study Md-ACS1 and Md-ACO1, and to examine ethylene production and softening rate of fruit at room temperature ($20^{\circ}C$) storage in 'Fuji (FJ)', 'Golden Supreme (GS)', and 5 cultivars of Korean apples ('RubyS (RS)', 'Hongro (HR)', 'Arisoo (AS)', 'Summer King (SK)', 'Greenball (GB)'). The result showed that an increase in the number of the alleles (ACS1-2, ACO1-1) decreased the ethylene production and softening rate. The presence of ACS1-1/1, ACO1-1/2 was confirmed in GS and the highest ethylene production and softening rate was observed. Ethylene production and softening rate of SK and GB expressing ACS1-1/2, ACO1-1/2 were higher than that of HR and AS, expressing ACS1-2/2, ACO1-1/2, but lower than GS. FJ with ACS1-2/2, ACO1-1/1 showed the lowest ethylene production and softening rate among all cultivars except RS. The Md-ACS1 and Md-ACO1 DNA markers could potentially be used to estimate storability and applied in marker assisted selection the improve the efficiency of apple breeding.

  • 수산화마그네슘을 첨가한 저밀도 폴리에틸렌-에틸렌 비닐 아세테이트 복합체의 연소성을 시험하였다. 저밀도 폴리에틸렌-에틸렌 비닐 아세테이트에 수산화마그네슘을 40~80wt% 첨가하여 용융 혼합하고 성형 후 콘칼로리미터(ISO 5660-1)를 이용하여 연소성을 시험하였다. 수산화마그네슘을 첨가한 시편은 첨가하지 않은 시험편에 비하여 그의 플래시오버 가능성이 감소하였다. 수산화마그네슘을 첨가한 시험편은 첨가하지 않은 시험편에 비해 낮은 총열방출량과 낮은 CO 발생량을 나타내었고, 수산화마그네슘 함량이 증가할수록 총연기발생량과 비소화면적이 감소하였다.

  • It was performed to test the combustive properties of low density polyethylene and ethylene vinyl acetate (LDPE-EVA) composite by the addition of magnesium hydroxide. Flame retardant of natural magnesium hydroxide was added to the mixture of LDPE-EVA in 40 to 80 wt% concentration. The composite was compounded to prepare specimen for combustive analysis by cone calorimeter (ISO 5660-1). Comparing with virgin LDPE-EVA, the specimens including the magnesium hydroxide had lower flashover possibility. It is supposed that the combustive properties in the composites decreased due to the endothermic decomposition of magnesium hydroxide. The specimens with magnesium hydroxide showed both the lower total heat release rate (THR) and lower CO production rate than those of virgin polymer. As the magnesium hydroxide content increases, the total smoke release (THR) and smoke extinction area (SEA) decreased.

  • This experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of ethylene adsorbent removing ethylene gas produced from apple fruits in poly ethylene film bag storage. The treatment of ethylene adsorbent was not effected the change in soluble solids and organic acid content of fruits. The fruit softening was remarkably delayed by the absorbent treatment, and the more amount of it was the more effective. The ethylene evolution and respiration of fruits reduced or decreased by this treatment during storage. The ethylene adsorbent for 'Fuji' apple fruit was effective more than 30g per 10kg fruits.

  • 에틸렌 작용억제제인 1-MCP(1-methylcyclopropene) 처리에 따른 토마토의 선도연장효과를 검정하기 위해 본 연구는 수행되었다. 토마토“슈퍼도태랑(Supermomotaro)”품종을 Mature green 단계에서 수화한 다음 1-MCP를 2$0^{\circ}C$에서 250, 500, 및 1000ppb 의 농도로 4시간 동안 처리후 온도 2$0^{\circ}C$, 90% RH 조건에 저장하면서 에틸렌 발생, 호흡량 및 품질특성 변화를 조사하였다. 토마토의 에틸렌 발생은 모든 처리구에서 저장 2일째 급등하는 경향을 보였는데, 1-MCP 처리구는 무처리에 비해 그 급등정도가 낮았으며, 호흡량 또한 1-MCP 처리에 의해 효과적으로 억제되었다. 특히 처리 2일 후부터 무처리에 비해 2배정도 낮은 호흡량을 나타냈다. 과피의 착색진행 정도를 Hunter color의 적색도“a”값으로 비교한 결과, 무처리는 2일부터 6일까지 빠르게 증가하였지만 1-MCP 처리구는 그 증가 속도가 낮았으며, 처리농도가 높을수록“a”값의 변화가 적은 경향을 보였다. 또한 황색도“b”값의 비교에 있어서도 1-MCP 처리구가 무처리에 비해 그 변화가 적었다. 경도는 무처리에서 2일 후에 급격히 감소하는데 비해 1-MCP처리에서는 4일까지 그 감소 폭이 적었으며, 1-MCP처리 농도별 차이는 크지 않았다. 부패과 발생은 무처리와 500ppb 처리에서 비슷한 수준이었으며, 1000ppb 처리에서는 오히려 무처리에 비해 부패율이 높아 고농도 처리에 의한 장해로 판단되었다. 그러나 250ppb 처리는 무처리에 비해 부패율이 적게 나타났다.

Effect of Inabenfide and Nitrogen Top-Dressing on Ethylene Evolution and Lodging in Rice (질소추비와 생장조정제 Inabenfide 처리가 벼 도복 및 에틸렌 발생에 미치는 영향)

  • This experiment was carried out in the green house at Tokyo University of Agriculture in 1992 to investigate the relationship between lodging resistances and specific morphological characters and to examine the effects of nitrogen top-dressing and growth retardant on changes of the endogenous ethylene content in rice plant. Inabenfide did not affect significantly yield, yield component, chlorophyll content, and $CO_2 assimilation but, decreasing plant height when growth regulators were applied at booting stage, decreasing internode elongation, and increasing culm thickness and diameter of the third and fourth internode. While, nitrogen top-dressing usually showed to effect increasing vegetative growth such as plant height, tiller number, and morphological characteristics but, were not significantly affected the chlorophyll content and $CO_2 assimilation. Ethylene evolution was dramatically changed with nitrogen top-dressing and growth retardant. Application of Inabenfide at 15 days before heading inhibited ethylene evolution in the all nitrogen levels. Higher nitrogen top-dressing showed higher ethylene evolution than that of low nitrogen level. High positive correlation was detected between nitrogen application and ethylene evolution.

Changes in the Components of Cell Wall in Persimmon Fruits with Ethylene Treatment (에틸렌 처리에 의한 감 과실 세포벽성분의 변화)

  • This study was carried out to investigate changes in the flesh firmness, evolution of ethylene, cell wall components, and degradation and solubilization of polyuronide(PU) and polysaccharide(PS) in green(GP) and mature persimmon(MP) fruits according to testing time of ethylene(50${\mu}\ell$ㆍL$^{-1}$ ). When ethylene was treated in GP and MP, flesh firmness rapidly decreased and it was decreased more GP than MP. When ethylene were treated for 12 hours in GP, production of ethylene began after 3 days. The amount of ethylene product was maximum 16,000 ${\mu}\ell$ㆍL$^{-1}$ at 24 hours of ethylene treatment. However, ethylene was not producted until 7 days after 24 hours ethylene treatment at MP. The content of pectic substances decreased in the distilled- water, 0.05M $Na_2$CO$_3$,4M and 8M KOH-soluble fractions during softening according to increasing time of ethylene treatment. Arabinose and galactose were the major non-cellulosic neutral sugars in the 0.05M CDTA and 0.05M $Na_2$CO$_3$-soluble pectic fractions. Glucose, galactose and xylose were the major non-cellulosic neutral sugars in the 4M KOH- soluble hemicellulosic fraction. High molecular of PU and PS were degraded and solubilized in the distilled-water, 0.05M CDTA 0.05M $Na_2$CO$_3$ and 4M KOH-soluble fractions during time of ethylene treatment.

Quality Characteristics, Carbon Dioxide, and Ethylene Production of Asparagus (Asparagus officinalis L.) Treated with 1-Methylcyclopropene and 2-Chloroethylphosphonic Acid during Storage (아스파라거스에서 1-MCP와 CEPA 처리에 따른 CO2 및 에틸렌 발생과 품질특성)

  • Asparagus (Asparagus officinalis L.) needs proper post-harvest treatment to prolong its storage life. This study investigated the effect of 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) on the quality and storage life of asparagus. Fresh-harvested asparagus was treated with 1-MCP ($1mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$), CEPA($10mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$), and 1-MCP($1mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$) + CEPA($10mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$) and compared with an untreated control. The carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) production, ethylene production, and morphological characteristics of the preserved asparagus were observed. The flow-system and the static-type measurement methods for ethylene and $CO_2$ production (respiration rate) were used. Weight loss, respiration rate, degree of freshness, and ethylene production were monitored during storage at $7^{\circ}C$. The results further showed that CEPA (2-chloroethylphosphonic acid) treatment had greater effects on $CO_2$ and ethylene production than using the 1-MCP process. The asparagus treated with CEPA or 1-MCP + CEPA had significantly increased the ethylene production rate compared to the control or using only 1-MCP during storage. There were no evident changes in the respiration rate of asparagus under 1-MCP treatment as compared with the control. Using the flow-system, slight differences in the rates of $CO_2$ and ethylene production were noted as compared to using the static type. Findings showed that in using the flow-system, asparagus manifested clearer results as compared with the static type. Weight loss in asparagus was significantly lower in control and 1-MCP treated samples than in those treated with CEPA. Likewise, the $CO_2$ and ethylene production of the CEPA treated samples significantly increased. The 1-MCP treatment reduced the effects of CEPA on weight loss, soluble solids content, and osmolality. The effect was not observed with exogenous ethylene as CEPA treatment had no visible effect as compared to the untreated group. Thus, 1-MCP treatment of asparagus could slightly reduce damage to the quality of asparagus during its distribution where ethylene gas is produced. Therefore, this study suggests that 1-MCP treatment can reduce the damage induced by ethylene gas on asparagus in poor distribution environments.

The Effect of Adsorbed Oxygen Species on the Partial Oxidation of Ethylene over Ag/α-Al2O3 (Ag/α-Al2O3 촉매상에서의 에틸렌 부분산화반응에 미치는 흡착산소종의 영향)

  • Partial oxidation of ethylene over 10wt% $Ag/{\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ catalyst was studied with a pulse reactor which was connected directly to a G. C. When ethylene was injected after oxygen injection at the temperature where molecular adsorption of oxygen is difficult ethylene oxide was evolved. From the results, it is suggested that adsorbed atomic oxygen is related with the evolution of ethylene oxide. The selectivity to ethylene oxide decreased with the decrease of the amounts of adsorbed oxygen and bulk oxygen. Ethylene oxide was either decomposed to ethylene and adsorbed oxygen or isomerized to acetaldehyde. However, the isomerization of ethylene oxide to acetaldehyde was strongly suppressed by the preadsorbed oxygen.
