  • We propose a technique to protect digital images using the magnitude and orientation of their edges. The proposed technique uses the content-associated copyright message generated by combining the original copyright message with the magnitude and orientation of some edges of a digital image. It enables the distribution of the original copyright message without any distortion of original digital images by avoiding embedment of the original copyright message into images. In addition to the advantage in the image quality, it also has a relatively low computational complexity by using simple operations to generate the content-associated copyright message. To verify the proposed technique, we performed experiments on its robustness to the external attacks such as histogram equalization, median filtering, rotation, and cropping. Experimental results on restoring the copyright message from images distorted by attacks show that more than 90%, on the average, can be recovered.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient deinterlacing algorithm which interpolates the missing scan lines by weighted summing of the intra and the inter interpolation pixels according to the spatio-temporal variation. In the spatial interpolation, we adopt a new edge based spatial interpolation method which includes edge directional refinement. The conventional edge dependent interpolation algorithms are very sensitive to noise due to the failure of estimating edge direction. In order to exactly detect edge direction, our method first finds the edge directions around the pixel to be interpolated and then refines edge direction of the pixel using weighted maximun frequent filter. Futhermore, we improve the accuracy of motion detection by reducing the possibility of motion detection error using 3 tab median filter. In the final interpolation step, we adopt weighted sum of intra and inter interpolation pixels according to spatio-temporal variation ratio, thereby improving the quality in slow moving area. Simulation results show the efficacy of the proposed method with significant improvement over the previous methods in terms of the objective PSNR quality as well as the subjective image quality.

  • The basis function of wavelet transform used in this paper is constructed by using lifting scheme, which is different from general wavelet transform. Lifting scheme is a new biorthogonal wavelet con-structing method, that does not use Fourier transform for constructing its basis function. In this paper, an image compression and reconstruction method using the lifting scheme was proposed. And this method improves data visualization by supporting a partial reconstruction and a local reconstruction. Approx- imations at various resolutions allow extracting various sizes of feature from an image or signal with a small amount of original information. An approximation with small size of scaling coefficients gives a brief outline of features at fast. Image compression and edge detection techniques provide good frame- works for data management and visualization in multimedia database.

  • This paper presents a new edge detection algorithm in color image. The proposed Adaptive morphological Wavelet-CNN algorithm is divided into two parts : The Adaptive morpholog and WCNN(Wavelet Cellular Neural Networks). It detects the optimal edge with applying this color image to WCNN algorithm, after it does level up a boundary side of a color image by using the adaptive morphology as the threshold of an input color image. Also, it is used not a conventional fixed mask edge detection method but variable mask method which is called a variable BBM. Finally, to show the feasibility of the proposed algorithm, this paper provides by simulation that the color image consists of 30.

  • Edge detection for such as image, lane and object recognition is important image processing method. And some traditional method for this, there are Sobel, Prewitt, Roberts, Laplacian, LoG(Laplacian of Gaussian) and so on. Characteristics of these methods are insufficient in the salt & pepper noise added image. In order to improve such a problem of conventional methods, in this paper, we proposed an algorithm applying the weighted mask for detecting an edge by setting the local mask centered on the adjacent of the central pixel if central pixel of the mask is non-noise, it is intactly set by element of estimated mask, after calculating estimated mask if it is noise.

  • This paper proposes an efficient method that helps a visually impaired person to detect a pavement borderline. A pedestrian is equipped with a camera so that the front view of a natural scene is captured. Our approach analyzes the captured image and detects the borderline of a pavement in a very robust manner. Our approach performs the task in two steps. In a first step, our approach detects a vanishing point and vanishing lines by applying an edge operator. The edge operator is designed to take a threshold value adaptively so that it can handle a dynamic environment robustly. The second step is to determine the borderlines of a pavement based on vanishing lines detected in the first step. It analyzes the vanishing lines to form VRays that confines the pavement only. The VRays segments out the pavement region in a radial manner. We compared our approach against Canny edge detector. Experimental results show that our approach detects borderlines of a pavement very accurately in various situations.

  • In general, mosaic blocks are used to hide some specified areas, such as human faces and disgusting objects, in an input image when images are uploaded on a web-site or blog. This paper proposes a new algorithm for robustly detecting grid mosaic areas in an image based on the edge projection. The proposed algorithm first extracts the Canny edges from an input image. The algorithm then detects the candidate mosaic blocks based on horizontal and vertical edge projection. Subsequently, the algorithm obtains real mosaic areas from the candidate areas by eliminating the non-mosaic candidate regions through geometric features, such as size and compactness. The experimental results showed that the suggested algorithm detects mosaic areas in images more accurately than other existing methods. The suggested mosaic detection approach is expected to be utilized usefully in a variety of multimedia-related real application areas.

  • Recently, the IDS(Intrusion Detection System) using a video camera is an important part of the home security systems which start gaining popularity. However, the video intruder detection has not been widely used in the home surveillance systems due to its unreliable performance in the environment with abrupt illumination change. In this paper, we propose an effective moving edge extraction algerian from a sequence image. The proposed algorithm extracts edge segments from current image and eliminates the background edge segments by matching them with reference edge list, which is updated at every frame, to find the moving edge segments. The test results show that it can detect the contour of moving object in the noisy environment with abrupt illumination change.

  • One of the most important tasks in image processing is noise filtering. Noise removal in image is a difficult task due to many reasons such as nonstationary sequences and corrupted by various types of noise. Human's visual perception is heavily based on the edge information. Thus, noise filtering must preserve edges. To remove the noise, we usually use the square-shaped median filter. They possess mathematical simplicity but have the disadvantages that blur the edges. In this paper we consider a new technique for image restoration using a weighted octagonal median filter. The technique consists of simple hypothesis test for edge detection, and we use the weighted octagonal-shaped moving window. The new technique is applied to noise corrupted image and experimental results are compared to the results of the square-shaped median filter and the cross-shaped median filter.
