Current Status of Water Electrolysis Technology and Large-scale Demonstration Projects in Korea and Overseas (국내외 수전해 기술 및 대규모 실증 프로젝트 진행 현황)

  • Global efforts continue with the goal of transition to a "carbon neutral (net zero)" society with zero carbon emissions by 2050. For this purpose, the technology of water electrolysis is being developed, which can store electricity generated from renewable energies in large quantities and over a long period of time as hydrogen. Recently, various research and large-scale projects on 'green hydrogen', which has no carbon emissions, are being conducted. In this paper, a comparison of water electrolysis technologies was carried out and, based on data provided by the International Energy Agency (IEA), large-scale water electrolysis demonstration projects were analyzed by classifying them by technology, power supply, country and end user. It is expected that through the analysis of large-scale water electrolysis demonstration projects, research directions and road maps can be provided for the development/implementation of commercial projects in the future.

A Dynamic Duty Cycle Adjustment Mechanism for Reduced Latency in Industrial Plants (플랜트 시설에서 지연시간 감소를 위한 동적 듀티사이클 조절 기법)

  • For environmental monitoring and risk identification of industrial plants, several monitoring systems using Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have been developed. In this paper, we propose a dynamic duty cycle adjustment mechanism for reduced latency in industrial plants. The proposed method adjusts the duty cycle among predefined risk groups depending on the urgency of sensed data values. To demonstrate its efficacy, we analyze the expected transmission latency model and then discuss the characteristics in detail. We show that the proposed dynamic duty cycle mechanism is a more effective than a periodic mechanism by analyzing the expected latency of them in industrial plants where there are various types of sensory data with different levels of reliability.

  • Heavy oil residue upgrading process was being used in conventional refinery process. Recently, as the importance of non conventional energy development is growing up, the commercial projects of heavy oil upgrading are getting more active than before. For having competitive business model in the resource competition, non conventional energy development should be considered as an important business strategy. In developing oil sands, extra heavy oil, and shale gas, canadian oil sands and extra heavy oil have great importance in substitution of conventional oil consumption. In oil sands development, the bitumen, which is extracted from oil sands, has great value after upgrading or refining process. Similar process is being used current conventional refinery process. The bitumen is highly viscous hydrocarbon. This bitumen includes impurities which can not be treated in conventional refinery process. As this reason, specified process is needed in bitumen or extra heavy oil upgrading process. Moreover, there will be additional specified facilities in the process of production, transportation and marketing. In oil sands, there are various kinds of commercial upgrading process. Extraction, dilution, coking and cracking method were being used commercially.

  • Today, it is a trend that the demand of offshore plants is constantly growing, along with the advances in technology which are thoroughly needed to the rise of international oil price as well as offshore energy development. In addition, The main sectors of ship building, sale & purchase and chartering market regarding various kind of offshore supporting vessels that supports the business of offshore energy development is now maintaining its steady growth. However, in domestic case, the contract of time charter occasions regarding the offshore support vessel are almost non-existing situation. Thus, the relevant practical study regarding to implementation of various kinds of legal disputes and applicable laws that can be properly applied in time charter and the field of sale & purchase needs to be conducted actively. Therefore, the concept of this study has included the wide comparisons of other special provisions with the existing time-charter by making its base on "Supply Time 2005" which is the worldwide standard form of time charter in offshore support vessel market and its investigation, aiming to provide practical guidance and procedure for implementation of arbitration and applicable law issues which can be applied in legal disputes between parties.

Identifying Risk Management Locations for Synthetic Natural Gas Plant Using Pipe Stress Analysis and Finite Element Analysis (배관응력해석 및 유한요소해석에 의한 SNG플랜트의 리스크 관리 위치 선정)

  • While they are becoming more viable, synthetic natural gas (SNG) plants, with their high temperatures and pressures, are still heavily dependent on advancements in the state-of-the-art technologies. However, most of the current work in the literature is focused on optimizing chemical processes and process variables, with little work being done on relevant mechanical damage and maintenance engineering. In this study, a combination of pipe system stress analysis and detailed local stress analysis was implemented to prioritize the inspection locations for main pipes of SNG plant in accordance to ASME B31.3. A pipe system stress analysis was conducted for pre-selecting critical locations by considering design condition and actual operating conditions such as heat-up and cool-down. Identified critical locations were further analyzed using a finite element method to locate specific high-stress points. Resultant stress values met ASME B31.3 code standards for the gasification reactor and lower transition piece (bend Y in Fig.1); however, it is recommended that the vertical displacement of bend Y be restricted more. The results presented here provide valuable information for future risk based maintenance inspection and further safe operation considerations.

Study on the Estimation of Towing Force for LNG Bunkering Barge (LNG 벙커링 바지의 예인력 산정에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, the towing force for the LNG bunkering barge was investigated. Currently, LNG bunkering barge is being developed as an infrastructure for the bunkering of LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas), an eco-friendly energy source. In the case of the LNG bunkering barge, self-propulsion is considered through retrofit from an operating point. Therefore, the LNG bunkering barge's shape is similar to that of the ship as compared to a towed barge, so a rule of the towed barge overestimates the towing force. In order to improve accuracy, the calm water resistance was calculated using ITTC 1978 method which considers wave resistance by the Rankine source method. The added resistance in waves was calculated using the modified radiated energy method which considers the shortwave correction method of NMRI. The performance of the towing resistances through the calm water resistance and the added resistance in waves was compared to rules associated with towed barges.

Performance Improvement of Precooling Process and Cold Box in Hydrogen Liquefaction Process Using LNG Cold Energy (LNG 냉열이용 액체수소 제조공정의 예냉 및 Cold box의 성능 개선 연구)

  • For the hydrogen liquefaction, the large amount of energy is consumed, due to precooling, liquefaction and o-p conversion processes. The aim of this work is to improve the performance of hydrogen liquefaction process by introducing the new energy saving processes, that are the liquid nitrogen precooling process by using LNG cold energy, and the new design of cold box insulation using cold air circulation. The results show that the indirect use of LNG cold energy in precooling process enables not only to get energy saving, but to make safer operation of liquefaction plant. In new cold box, the energy loss of equipments could be reduced by nearly 35%~50% compared to the present perlite insulation, if insulation structure is organised as 3mm steel wall/20cm PUF/5cm air/20cm PUF/equipment. Additionally the equipments installed in cold box can get cooling effect, if the temperature is higher than the temperature of cold air. The application of this results can gives to increase the liquid yield of about 50% substantially in industrial hydrogen liquefaction plant.

  • 수력, 화력, 원자력 다음으로 제 4의 전원으로서 관심의 대상이 되고 있는 연료전지는 연료가 가지고있는 화학에너지를 직접에너지로 변환시키는 점에서 종래의 발전 기술과는 원리적으로 다르며, 카르노(Carnot)사이클에 의한 에너지 변환 효율의 제한을 받지 않기 때문에 효율이 높으며 공해가 없는 특징을 가지고 있다. 연료전지의 발전 방식은 작동 온도, 전해질 등에 의해서 분류되나 현재 실용화단계의 기술은 인산형연료전지 발전이다. 인산형 연료전지의 발전용 연료는 천연가스, 메탄올, 납사 등과 같은 탄화수소 계열의 다양한 연료를 사용할 수 있으며, 이들 연료들을 수소가 많이 함유된 가스로 변환시켜 연료전지에 공급하여야 한다. 연료전지발전시스템 개발은 주로 전력이용 측면에서 천연가스를 개질연료로 사용하는 연구가 주류를 이루었으나, 최근에는 전 세계적으로 대기 공해에 시달리고 있는 도시의 환경개선을 위하여 도심용 버스 및 대형 트럭 등에 응용하기 위한 무공해 수송용 자동차엔진의 개발, 국방용 이동전원 개발 및 100㎾ 미만의 현지설치용 및 낙도용 전원으로서 메탄올을 연료로 한 연료전지의 개발이 활발히 진행되고 있다. 한국에너지기술연구소는 한국전력 기술연구원과 공동으로 1989년부터 1992년까지 본체를 제외한 5.9㎾급 인산형 연료전지 발전시스템 즉, 메탄올 연료 개질장치, 운전자동화 시스템, 배열이용 시스템, 종합 배관 등을 설계 구성하여 발전 플랜트의 운전 특성 연구를 수행하였으며, 본 고에서는 이들 설비들의 운전 특성과 발전 플랜트로서의 효율 특성에 대한 고찰을 수행하였다. 본 시스템은 연료개질기가 연결되고 배열을 이용하는 국내최초의 종합적인 연료전지 발전 시스템으로서 개질된 연료로 운전하였을 경우 본체의 효율은 31.9%, 배열을 회수한 종합발전 플랜트의 효율은 45.2%였다.로서, 흰쥐 유선이 LH의 생성처이면서 동시에 작용처이며 유선에서 합성된 GnRH의 조절하에 국부적인 인자로 작용할 가능성을 시사한다.f variation)가 10% 내외로 만족할 만한 범위에 들었다. 본 실험 방법을 타액과 혈청내 testosterone 농도 측정에 응용하여 RIA의 결과와 비교하여 본 바 상관관계가 타액에서 r=0.969, 혈청에서 r=0.990으로 두 결과가 잘 일치하였다. 본 실험에서 측정된 한국인 여성의 타액내 testosterone농도는 107.7$\pm$12.0 pmol/l이었고, 남성의 타액내 농도는 274.2$\pm$22.1 pmol/l이었다. 이상의 결과로 보아 본 연구에서 정립된 EIA 방법은 RIA를 대신하여 소규모의 실험실에서도 활용할 수 있을 것으로 사려된다.또한 상실기 이후 배아에서 합성되며, 발생시기에 따라 그 영향이 다르고 팽창과 부화에 관여하는 것으로 사료된다. 더욱이, 조선의 ${\ulcorner}$구성교육${\lrcorner}$이 조선총독부의 관리하에서 실행되었다는 것을, 당시의 사범학교를 중심으로 한 교육조직을 기술한 문헌에 의해 규명시켰다.nd of letter design which represents -natural objects and was popular at the time of Yukjo Dynasty, and there are some documents of that period left both in Japan and Korea.   • Korean contractors have been maintained sustainable growth since entering into overseas construction market for the first time in 1960' s. In 2010, Korean contractors ordered 761 billion (USD) from overseas markets. Especially, billion (USD) were earned by Korean contractors in overseas plant construction market which account for more than 80% of the total amount by Korean contractors. Nevertheless, many Korean contractors are suffering from lack of technological competitiveness and construction management skills in the design phase compared with global leading contractors. These conditions have directly effect on the success of projects in terms of cost, duration, and quality. So, this study focused on identifying the risk factors and developing risk priority method for the design phase of LNG plant projects whose market is expanding. Research procedures were conducted by the following three steps. First, total 57 risk factors were identified in design phase through extensive literature reviews and experts survey. Second, the authors developed risk priority method which are more suitable for design phase of LNG plant projects by using three criteria, Probability(P), Impact(I), and Coordination Index(CI). Finally, the suitability of risk priority method and practical applicability were verified through expert survey and interview. Consequently, if korean contractors use the suggested risk factors and priority method based on their own know-how and experiences, then more reasonable and rational risk management will be conducted in the design phase of LNG plant projects.

Proposal and Analysis of DMR Process with Hydrofluorocarbon Refrigerants (Hydrofluorocarbon 냉매를 적용한 DMR 공정 제안 및 분석)

  • Natural gas, one of the cleanest fossil fuel, is liquefied to reduce its volume for the long distance transportation. Small size floating liquefied natural gas plant has small area that safe issue is highly considered. However, Dual Mixed Refrigerants (DMR) process has fire potential by using flammable refrigerants and N2 Expander process has low compressed energy efficiency which has high inherent process safety. Therefore, safe process with high compressed energy efficiency is constantly needed. This study suggested an alternative refrigerants to existing DMR process by using Hydrofluorocarbon which has high safety due to its non-flammable properties. As a result, it showed 34.8% lower compressed energy efficiency than DMR process that contains fire potential whereas 42.6% improved compressed energy efficiency than Single N2 Expander process. In conclusion, this research proposed safe process for small size floating liquefied natural gas plant while having high efficiency.
