Development of a Numerical Simulator for Methane-hydrate Production (메탄 하이드레이트 생산 묘사를 위한 수치도구의 개발)

  • Methane gas hydrate which is considered energy source for the next generation has an urgent need to develop reliable numerical simulator for coupled THM phenomena in the porous media, to minimize problems arising during the production and optimize production procedures. International collaborations to improve previous numerical codes are in progress, but they still have mismatch in the predicted value and unstable convergence. In this paper, FEM code for fully coupled THM phenomena is developed to analyze methane hydrate dissociation in the porous media. Coupled partial differential equations are derived from four mass balance equations (methane hydrate, soil, water, and hydrate gas), energy balance equation, and force equilibrium equation. Five main variables (displacement, gas saturation, fluid pressure, temperature, and hydrate saturation) are chosen to give higher numerical convergence through trial combinations of variables, and they can analyze the whole region of a phase change in hydrate bearing porous media. The kinetic model is used to predict dissociation of methane hydrate. Developed THM FEM code is applied to the comparative study on a Masuda's laboratory experiment for the hydrate production, and verified for the stability and convergence.

Study on Energy Performance And Economic Evaluation of Windows System with Built-in Type Blinds (블라인드 내장형 창호시스템의 에너지 성능 및 경제성 평가에 관한 연구)

  • This study evaluated the energy efficiency of a windows system using built-in blinds, with regard to their insulation performance and their blocking of solar radiation. The study took advantage of the "Physibel Voltra" program as a physical simulation of heat transfer. To simulate the "Physibel Voltra" program, I practiced a mock-up test to determine heating quality and translation condition. I analyzed the propensity to annual energy consumption, the annual quantity of heat transfer, and the annual cooling and heating cost through a computer simulation for one general household in an apartment building. In the test, it was found that compared to a general windows system, a windows system with built-in blinds reduced the annual heat transfer by 10% in cooling states and by 11% in heating states when the blind was up. When the blind was down, the windows system with built-in blinds reduced the annual heat transfer by 25% in cooling states and 30% in heating states. When a windows system with built-in blinds is compared with a general windows system, the quantity of cooling and heating loads is reduced by 283.3kw in cooling states and 76.3kw in heating states. This leads to a reduction in the required cooling and heating energy of 359.6kw per house. It is thus judged that the use of a windows system with built-in blinds is advantageous in terms of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, because the annual TOE (tons of oil equivalent) per house is reduced by 0.078TOE, while $tCO_2$ is reduced by $0.16tCO_2$. In addition, compared with a general windows system, the cost of cooling and heating loads in the system reduces the annual cooling cost by 100,000won, and the annual heating cost by 50,000won. Ultimately, this means that cooling and heating loads are cut by 150,000won per year.

  • A model for analysis of the crushing mechanism of thin-walled rectangular tube is presented. The crushing modes of rectangular tubes may be characterized as either compact or noncompact and the model presented only considers compact modes. The unloading process in the crushing are categorized into three different stages where the distinction is based on the ratio of outward to inward fold length. Using the kinematic relations and the energy conservation principle, the instantaneous crush load is derived. An approximate equation that considers the rolling behavior is also given so that the crush load history may be established. The equation is experimentally proved.

  • 마이크로 스케일의 유체를 dispensing 하기 위한 방법으로 electrowetting 현상을 이용한다. 작은 물방울은 높은 표면에너지에 의해 좁은 관 내부에서 떨어지지 않고 정적인 평형상태를 이루게 된다. 이때, 유체 내부에 가느다란 전극을 삽입하고, 외부에 금속 평판을 설치한 후 두 전극 사이에 일정한 전압을 인가할 경우 sharp edge의 형태를 지니는 전극의 끝단에서 매우 높은 전계의 변화가 발생한다. 이 때, 작은 물방울의 electrowetting 현상에 의한 내부의 압력 변화를 수치 해석적으로 예측하고 이로 인한 형상의 변화 및 물방울의 dispensing 현상을 실험적으로 관찰한다.

  • A numerical analysis on the wave deformation in the shallow water region is performed for the case of two intersecting wave trains of the same frequency on uniformly sloping beaches. This model is based on the consideration of wave energy balance and wave action conservation, and iteratively solved the set of conservation equations of both mass and horizontal momentum. Using the computed results, the wave deformations in accordance with the variation of the parameters luck as incident wave angie and wave height in deep water which influences the variation of wave hight and mean water level under the intersecting wave trains in the shallow water region. are considered.

Experimental Methods for the Measurement of Damping Loss Factors (내부손실계수 측정을 위한 실험 방법)

  • The purpose of this study is to determine the most appropriate experimental method of the measurement of "damping loss factors" (DLF) for the statistical energy analysis(SEA) calculation. The successful prediction of vibration levels from the structure is critically dependent on the accurate estimation of DLF's not only in conventional vibration analysis but especially in SEA. Unforunately, calculation of accurate DLF is not an easy matter. So experimental methods are made use of for the DLF values. Three kinds of experimental methods for estimating DLF, i.e. decay rate method, half-power bandwidth method and power balance method, are presented and tests are carried out for the plate and the cylindrical shell examples. Pro and con of each methods is reviewed. Finally, calculated DLF values are used for vibration level estimation using commercial SEA software and compared with measured vibration data.tion data.

  • Methane can be converted directly to hydrogen by pyrolysis. The reaction is highly endothemic and heat must be supplied at high temperatures. Gibbs free energy minimization calculations have been carried out for the methane pyrolysis to determine equilibrium products. The calculation parameters are the temperature, the initial H/C ratio, the pressure and Gibbs energies of each substance. Methane, ethylene, acetylene, benzene, naphthalene, and hydrogen are the main products. Excluding hydrogen, it is observed that ethylene and aromatics(benzene+naphthalene) are predominant products below 1400K, whereas acetylene is significantly formed above 1400K. Hydrogen dilution increases the selectivities for ethylene and acetylene and decreases the selectivity for aromatics. Increasing the pressure also decreases the decomposition of methane.

  • 최근 디젤 대체 연료 및 발전용 연료로서 그 가능성을 인정받고 있는 DME(dimethyl ether, $CH_{3}OCH_{3}$)를 이용하여 수소를 생산하는 방법으로 DME 수증기 개질반응의 기초 실험을 수행하였다. DME 개질 반응의 생성물의 평형 조성 분포를 온도, 압력, 원료의 공급비$(H_{2}O/DME)$를 변수로 하여 열역학적으로 해석하였고, DME, 에탄올, 또는 메탄올 수증기 개질 반응의 생성물의 분포를 비교하여 수소 생산을 위한 공급원료로의 가능성을 검토하였다. 여러 종류의 개질 촉매를 사용하여 DME 개질 반응을 수행해 본 결과, 반응온도 $300^{\circ}C$, 반응압력 1atm, 원료 공급비$(H_{2}O/DME)=3$인 반응조건에서 1.0wt% $Pd/{\gamma}$-alumina가 가장 좋은 활성 및 60% 이상의 수소 선택도를 보여주었으, 또한 원료의 공급비가 증가함에 따라 DME의 전환율 및 주 생성물인 수소의 수율이 현저하게 증가함을 보여주었다.

  • 2차원 노심핵설계 코드 HELIOS를 이용하여 $^{7}$ LiF-BeF$_2$-ThF$_4$-$^{233}$ UF$_4$ 용융염 핵연료와 흑연(Graphite) 감속재로 구성된 AMBIDEXTER(Advanced Molten-salt Break-even Inherently-safe Dual-mission EXperimental and TEst Reactor) 원자로의 육각주형 로심격자에 대해 핵적 자활성 요건의 설계해석을 수행하였다. AMBIDEXTER 원자로는 액체 핵연료의 유동성을 이용한 온라인 핵연료 정화ㆍ처리ㆍ재생의 연속공정을 도입하여 노내의 잔류 핵분열 생성물질의 포화양을 최소로 유지시키고 중성자 경제성을 극대화하므로 높은 전환율을 얻는 설계이다. 핵연료 내에 잔류하는 핵분열생성물질의 포화농도에 대응하는 연소도를 등가연소도로 정의할 때, 열출력 250MW$_{th}$ AMBIDEXTER 원자로의 등가연소도 374MWD/TeH.E.의 평형 로심 모델에 대해 핵적 자활성을 지배하는 주요 핵설계 인자로서 용융염 핵연료의 $^{233}$ U Mole 분율, 흑연-대-용융염의 체적비, 노심격자 간격 및 출력 밀도의 변화에 따른 임계도 및 전환율을 평가하였다. 그 결과, $^{233}$ U Mole 분율과 혹연-대-용융염 체적비를 좌표축으로 하는 2차원상공간에서 핵적 자활성 요건 상태함수는 각 노심격자간격에 대해 완만한 선형 함수로 표현할 수 있음을 확인하였다.

Coupling loss factor evaluation using loss factor based on the SEA (SEA에 기초를 둔 손실계수를 이용한 결합계수의 평가)

  • The overall aim of this paper is to determine coupling loss factor using loss factor and structural loss factor. For this purpose, two kinds of loss factor were adopted. One is loss factor of each sub structure, another is structural loss factor based on the complex welded or assembled structure. Using these two parameters, it is possible to derive the coupling loss factor which represent characteristic condition of SEA theory. Coupling loss factor of conjunction in complex structure was expressed as power balance equation. The derived equation for a coupling loss factor has been simplified on the assumption of one directional power flow between two sub structures. Using these conditions, it is possible to find the coupling loss factor equation. The comparison between theory of power transmission on conjunction and above equation, show a good agreement in simple beam structure. To check the effectiveness of above equation, it was adopted rotary compressor. Rotary compressor has three main conjunctions between shell and internal vibration part. This equation was applied to find out the optimum welding point with respect to reduce the noise propagation. It shows the effective tool to evaluate the coupling loss factor in complex structure.
