Vacuum Drying Characteristics Using Different Heating Methods for Douglas-fir Timber (미송 대단면재의 가열법에 따른 진공건조 특성)

  • Timbers of 14 by 14 cm, 2.4 m long, were dried in a vacuum kiln to investigate vacuum drying characteristics using three types of heating methods, conduction heating with hot plate, the radio frequency (RF) heating and the combination of both (hybrid heating). Average drying rate is the highest for the hybrid heating and the lowest for the RF heating. Average specific energy is the highest for the RF heating and the lowest for conduction heating. Transverse moisture content distribution of dried timber revealed the convex profile for both conduction and the hybrid heating and moisture content increased from one face to the opposite face for the RF heating. Moisture content distribution along the length of timber increased from the end to the middle of timber length for conduction and the hybrid heating and decreased from the end to the middle of timber length for the RF heating. End- and surface checks for conduction heating were severer than the other heating methods. No internal check occurred in any heating methods. Drying characteristics of conduction heating showed in-between trend of the RF and the hybrid heating.

  • Although lithium metal batteries have a high energy density, experimental skills capable of solving lots of problems induced by dendrite such as short circuit, low coulomb efficiency, capacity loss, and cycle performance are still only in academic research stage. In this paper, research cases for dendrite growth inhibition on lithium metal electrode were classified into four types: flexible SEI (solid electrolyte interface) layer responding to volume expansion of lithium metal electrode, SEI supporting layer to inhibit dendrite growth physically, SHES (self-healing electrostatic shield) mechanism to adjust lithium growth by leading uniform diffusion of Li+ ions, and finally micro-patterning to induce uniform deposition of lithium. We hope to advance the practical use of lithium metal electrode by analyzing pros and cons of this classification.

  • According to the government's roadmap for revitalizing the hydrogen economy, various industries carry out projects using liquefied hydrogen as an energy source. However, safety standards necessary for operational demonstration projects are not prepared in Korea, thus, it is necessary to prepare safety standards as soon as possible. Therefore, in order to secure the safety of liquefied hydrogen instrumentation and handling facilities, it is necessary to prepare safety standards that comprehensively consider the risk of liquefied hydrogen. This study aims to prioritize safety standard items using ETA, FMEA, and AHP, which are risk assessment techniques, to present the feasibility of selecting safety standard items.

Rotordynamic Analysis and Operation Test of Turbo Expander with Hydrostatic Bearing (정압베어링을 적용한 터보팽창기의 회전체 동역학 해석 및 구동시험)

  • In this study, we present rotor dynamic analysis and operation test of a turbo expander for a hydrogen liquefaction plant. The turbo expander consists of a turbine and compressor wheel connected to a shaft supported by two hydrostatic radial and thrust bearings. In rotor dynamic analysis, the shaft is modeled as a rigid body, and the equations of motion for the shaft are solved using the unsteady Reynolds equation. Additionally, the operating test of the turbo expander has been performed in the test rig. Pressurized helium is supplied to the bearings at 8.5 bar. Furthermore, we monitor the shaft vibration and flow rate of the helium supplied to the bearings. The rotor dynamic analysis result shows that there are two critical speeds related with the rigid body mode under 40,000 rpm. At the first critical speed of 36,000 rpm, the vibration at the compressor side is maximum, whereas that of the turbine is maximum at the second critical speed of 40,000 rpm. The predicted maximum shaft vibration is 3 ㎛, whereas sub-synchronous vibration is not presented. The operation test results show that there are two critical speeds under the rated speed, and the measured vibration value agrees well with predicted value. The measured flow rate of the helium supplied to the bearing is 2.0 g/s, which also agrees well with the predicted data.

  • Electricity is essential energy in modern society, such as being used in various industries. However, the rate of fires occurring on electric wiring to deal with it is very high. In this work, we implemented a system to predict the temperature change of an electric circuit through analysis using various regression models. To do so, we collected the temperature data of 27 types of magnetic switches which control electric circuits as well as trained the regression models by using the collected temperature data. In our experiments, we confirmed that the regression models can be trained at a sufficiently usable level since the difference between the actual temperature and predicted temperature is about 4℃. The results of our work will be useful to predict the temperature of electric circuits and preventing fires on them.

Analysis of Lead and Bismuth Absorption Rate by Monte Carlo Simulation (몬테카를로 시뮬레이션에 의한 납과 비스무트 흡수율 분석)

  • In the medical field, lead aprons are used to protect the human body from radiation. However, lead is a heavy metal that is harmful to the human body and the environment, so various shield are being developed. In this study, bismuth, which has a similar atomic number to lead, was set as a new material and the absorption rate according to thickness in the same energy region was compared and evaluated through Monte Carlo simulation. The same tendency was confirmed when the thickness of the lead shield was 0.25 mm, the thickness of the bismuth was 0.3 mm, when the lead was 0.50 mm, the bismuth was 0.60 mm, and when the lead was 0.75 mm, the bismuth was 0.90 mm. Therefore, it is reasonable to replace lead with bismuth in the shield material.

The Effects of Self-management Technique on Eco-driving Behaviors (자기-관리 기법이 운전자의 에코 드라이빙 행동에 미치는 효과)

  • Eco driving is a strategy to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions from motor vehicle. However, it has not received much attention until recently. Psychological studies on this issue have been limited and the majority of existing studies have primarily been based on engineering and educational approaches. This study examined the effects of a self-management technique on two driving behaviors: speeding and putting the gears in neutral while waiting at the signal. The self-management technique consisted of three behavior interventions: goal-setting, self-monitoring, and reward. Three drivers participated in this study. An AB multiple baseline design across participants was adopted. Results showed that the self-management technique was effective in increasing both driving behaviors. Implications of the present findings and suggestions for future research were discussed.

  • 홍수시 교각이나 교량 상판에 집적되는 유송잡물은 하천통수단면을 급격히 축소시켜 수위 상승을 일으키고 교량에 가해지는 유수압을 가중시켜 교량 파괴를 발생시킨다. 이러한 흐름의 변화는 교각 기초부의 세굴 깊이와 면적을 증가시키고 교각 및 교량 상판에 대한 유수압을 증가시켜 교량 자체의 안전성을 위협할 뿐 아니라 수위 상승으로 인한 범람 및 인근 구조물 파손 위험도 초래한다. 이에 대한 대책 마련을 위해서는 교량에 유송잡물이 집적된 경우 변화하는 흐름 특성을 파악하고 그에 대한 이해가 먼저 이루어져야 한다. 기존 연구는 교량에 유송잡물이 집적된 경우 발생하는 교각 기초부의 세굴 양상의 변화에만 초점을 두거나, 교량 인근의 국부적 범위에 대한 흐름 특성 변화에만 집중하여 조사한 경우가 대부분이다. 그러나 하천 내 횡단 구조물 특성 변화로 인한 흐름의 변화는 해당 구조물이 위치한 지점뿐 아니라 상하류의 상당한 범위에 걸쳐 지속적으로 해당 구조물 및 주변 시설에 영향을 미칠 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 실험용 개수로에 교량 모형을 설치하여 수리모형실험을 수행하였고 유송잡물로 인한 교량 폐색이 발생한 경우와 그렇지 않은 경우의 두 가지 조건을 고려하였다. 관찰 구간은 유송잡물이 집적된 교량의 상하류에 발생하는 흐름 변화를 상류는 교량 상판 길이의 약 3.33배 떨어진 위치까지 관찰하였으며 하류로는 교량 상판 길이의 10배 떨어진 위치까지 아우르는 구간에 대하여 관찰하였다. 두 가지 경우의 교량 모형에 동일한 흐름 조건을 적용하여 3차원 초음파 유속계를 이용하여 순간유속을 측정하였고, 시간평균유속, 레이놀즈 응력 및 난류 운동 에너지를 계산하여 평균 흐름 및 난류 특성의 변화를 비교 분석 하였다. 수리모형실험을 통해 유송잡물 집적으로 인한 교각 전면부와 후면부에서 하강류의 크기가 약 2배 정도 증가하는 것을 확인하였다.

Allocating CO2 Emission by Sector: A Claims Problem Approach (Claims problem을 활용한 부문별 온실가스 감축목표 분석)

  • Korean government established the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) in 2015. After revising in 2019, the government updated an enhanced target at the end of last year. When the NDC is addressed, the emission targets of each sector, such as power generation, industry, and buildings, are also set. This paper analyzes the emission target of each sector by applying a claims problem or bankruptcy problem developed from cooperative game theory. The five allocation rules from a claims problem are introduced and the properties of each rule are considered axiomatically. This study applies the five rules on allocating carbon emission by sector under the NDC target and compares the results with the announced government target. For the power generation sector, the government target is set lower than the emissions allocated by the five rules. On the other hand, the government target for the industry sector is higher than the results of the five rules. In other sectors, the government's targets are similar to the results of the rule that allocates emissions in proportion to each claim.

  • IP기반 무선 센서네트워크 기술은 센서노드를 인터넷망과 연동하여 다양한 정보를 수집/관리할 수 있음에도 불구하고 주로 제한된 환경에 설치되기 때문에 노드의 오작동이나 성능 개선이 필요한 경우 인위적인 소프트웨어 업데이트 및 업데이트된 노드의 상태를 파악하고 관리할 필요성이 있다. 소프트웨어 업데이트를 위해 필요한 코드 전파 기법은 매우 중요한 기술 중 하나로서, 본 논문에서는 6LoWPAN 프로토콜에서 제공하는 단편 패킷 전송 기법에 네트워크 코딩 기법을 적용한 새로운 업데이트 코드 전파 기법을 제안한다. 제안된 기법은 기존 단편 패킷 전송방식과 비교하여 패킷 전송의 횟수가 감소되었을 뿐만 아니라, 업데이트 코드 전파를 위한 신뢰성 보장, 전체 네트워크에서 전송에 따른 오버헤드 감소 효과를 보인다. 따라서 본 논문에서 제안한 6LoWPAN 프로토콜상에서 코드업데이트 전파 기법을 적용할 경우 속도, 에너지, 네트워크 혼잡도 측면에서 효율적인 업데이트를 수행할 수 있다. 뿐만 아니라 네트워크 코딩의 overhearing 문제점인 원본 데이터의 분실이나 데이터 미 수신시 발생하는 디코딩문제를 미리 정의된 메시지를 이용, 방지함으로써 신뢰성 있는 데이터 전송이 가능하다.
